Brandon Curington I was losing it when I watched it because I was so lost I thought I skipped an episode where they revealed it to Eren earlier. Like how’d he say that so casually I was just as confused wtf Reiner was talking about lol
Yeah the manga was even more random than the anime cause there was no buildup or anything and they wrote it in small text I was rolling at how isayama decided to just make his epic reveal not epic at all lmao

Reiner has confirmed dissociative identity disorder. He has 2 egos soldier and warrior. In this scene, under unbearable built up guilt, he dissociated from soldier alter to warrior alter and outed himself and Bertholdt by accident as we can tell that it wasnt purposefull from his reaction when soldier alter came back.
Later in the forest Ymir discribes his mental state quite well to Eren and Bertholdt knew about Reiner's disorder. Bert even asked him later when they were in the forest: "Reiner, who am i talking to now, soldier or warrior?" to what Reiner replies: "Calm down! Im warrior, alright?"
the english dub the best way for this reveal for english speakers, these men read it and just thought it was banter like EH

There was one clue about Reiner that they didn't reveal for some reason. Before he jumped off his horse to attack Annie, he purposefully removed his hood. Probably so that she would know that it's him, and grasp him in her hand so he could write the message. If she didn't know who it was, she might have reacted differently.

Glad you guys weren't saying shit about Eren. I've seen others react to this episode and MANY, keep saying things like 'Why is Eren just crying?' or 'Why isn't he doing anything?'
People need to understand that he's torn at the fact that two of his friends, in which he trained with for years, are responsible for the death of his mother along with many others, and the destruction of where he lived.
On top of that, this reveal happens just 2 days after he learned Annie was also responsible for more of his friends' deaths. 3 betrayals in 2 days will do that to a person.
One You're right. He does act like a dumbass. And you're right. You should put your feelings aside in situations like this. Unfortunately, that doesn't do much at all to disprove what the person above us said.

Eren was traumatized and he couldn’t control his emotions when two of his friends that he considered siblings turned out to be the killers of many innocent lives, INCLUDING HIS MOM. And you expect him to think rationally on the spot? He is not Levi or Erwin, he is still a kid. You can’t blame him for having a moment of shock and sudden realization of the lies of his (once) friends. In fact, him acting like a “dumbass” just proves that he is still human and prone to pain, like all of us. Just think of the world they live in and what they have discovered...you wouldn’t be a flawless rational thinker either. Season 3 and people still don’t understand these characters.

This is for sure one of the biggest betrayals of all time. Eren considered Reiner like his big brother. It's an amazing and very emotional scene, and the soundtrack is fantastic man ! But I'm not gonna lie guys, I thought that you were get more choked, I mean, this is an mind blowing scene...Almost every reaction on YT of this scene people loose their minds

This episode is always so heartbreaking to watch, you have to remember that they (the 104th cadet squad) trained for three years together. They roomed together, ate together, survived together and, to figure out that the people you considered brothers are responsible not just for the death of your mother, but the death of 10's of thousands of people is devastating. Which is why Eren hesitated to transform because, like with Annie, he didn't want to believe his own comrades are the enemies and not the mindless titans they've been fighting. When you watch as the seasons come out (i've read the manga) you'll come to understand that everyone is a victim in AOT, it's not just black and white, bad guys vs. good guys, which is what really separates AOT from anything else like it, because you can sympathize with everyone and understand multiple perspectives.
Except Zeke...Zeke is an asshole. Any creep who does that to poor innocent horses deserves to die.
I agree, haven't read the manga yet but I'm really curious to learn more about Bertholdt, Reiner and Annie's backstory story. I hate when people condemn them for being titans cause we don't even know the full story yet.

When i read the manga it was done the same way : droping the huge info casually without pushing it forward, to make us feel as clueless and confused as Eren. I was wondering how would they do that in the anime's version, but they managed to do great !! :)
This is what i love with this manga : every details unexplained has its purpose. It's as a good as a detective story.

@@zuzu6864 reiner was so mentally fucked up from developing bonds with the people he was actively trying to kill while also leading the mission to recover the founding titan with bertholdt and annie that he developed 2 personalities to cope with the guilt. Reiner revealing it here could be considered a last resort bcus reiner bertholdt annie and marcel were given 5 years I'm pretty sure to get the founding titan and they were already past that so that's why the beast titan was sent in the first place. After reiner and bertholdt saw that zeke was doing shit inside the walls they both knew they had to act now or never

The feeling gets taken away if you know it’s about to come by reading the manga. Happened to me too many times before so I stopped doing that. Then watching this without knowing beforehand with the visuals, music, build up, was soooo much more rewarding than turning the page and picking up on something and going “oh that’s crazy”. At least for AoT, I’m not reading the manga cause I want the full experience.

Love watching reactions to this. Reiner is such a conflicted character, you have to remember they were children when they broke the walls down originally, the same age Eren and Mikasa were back then, and didn't really understand what they were being told to do. Reiner going off about how he didn't understand that there were good people inside the walls and how if he knew he wouldn't have become "such a half-assed piece of shit". His words are pretty powerful there.
As for you guys' theories, you're getting there, but there are still a lot of things you're wrong about. The next arc that they're animating is going to have a LOT of answers, but Attack on Titan is pretty good with the 'one question gets answered and 10 more questions reveal themselves' form of storytelling.

DARKgirafa I didn't spoil anything actually, just stating that I like how Reiner doubts himself here.
To others, If you rewatch the series, he actually doubts himself earlier as well. Rewatching all the scenes where Bertholt and Reiner are present up to this point is actually super interesting, and more so if you include Annie's scenes in it too. A lot of the things they say/said have extra meaning that you better understand on a second watching. Example, in episode 13 of the original series, there is a moment in the second half, where Annie is walking through the streets looking at the dead bodies and saying "I'm sorry" to them. Her doing that has a WHOLE new meaning after you learn several episodes later that she's a titan and likely could have saved them all.
Ikr I was really mad like are their heads empty? Who would send children to destroy walls?

I never seen it mentioned, but the shot at 7:47 of bertholdt against the backdrop the sky always struck me as cool because it shows how bertholdt DOES actually look like the colossal titan. Especially since there is nothing close to compare his size to in the shot, you can almost imagine bertholdt being colossal size.
