- I found this programme on a cassette in an old shoe box recently and thought I would upload if for other Nick Drake fans to enjoy as I know it is very hard to get hold of these days. I orginally uploaded this about 6 months ago but my account was deleted because of the prince police so I thought I would upload it again as I couldnt find it anywhere. This show was orginally broadcast on BBC radio 2 at 9pm on 3rd january 2005..........................................................................

Good on Brad Pitt - Nick Drake might still be with us if he got more love and appreciation in his lifetime.
Why in the world would anyone begin a Nick Drake documentary with a cover by Norah Jones???
UNREAL. :(
To show some of the people that he has inspired?
Thank god Joe Boyd heard and recognized the absolute brilliance and genius of Nick Drake. I always wonder if he would have found more success had he been in Laurel Canyon around Joni, Geffen, etc with their support.
Nick Drake was a shooting star. Burned bright for a while and then imploded. As Neil Young once wrote "it's better to burn out than to fade away".
Thank you! I didn't think I would be able to find this. I'm a HUGE Nick Drake fan. He was and still is amazing.
Brad Pitt and Nick Drake... You gotta it all, Pitt!
impossible to articulate how bad that norah jones cover was
Yeah, its terrible. To be fair, I've had musicians tell me that's it literally impossible to cover Nick Drake's music. He was simply too unique.
im a musician mate and they are not impossible to cover but the musicians who choose to cover them must focus on the emotion and try to convey that or on failing that at least be able to play the guitar parts bang on
braig crogan Technically, yes, its possible to duplicate his picking style, although it would take a lot of dedication. There's this guy named Tobias Wilden, who's essentially a Nick Drake impersonator. Check his UA-cam videos, he's got Drake's songs down. My point is that nobody can duplicate the emotion expressed through the music. His music is so deeply personal.
my point exactly mate
braig crogan Fair enough mate, have you seen Tobias Wilden?
I love Brad Pitt and I love Nick Drake. Two rather different characters!! I tend to agree with other comments about the covers of his songs - the whole gestalt of a Drake performance is impaired if you alter one little fragment of the melody, the arrangement, and, of course, his amazing voice and guitar playing.
I know this sounds totally anal, but there you go.
Thank you for posting this, I missed it first time round!
loved that, thanks! Would love to hear the full show...
Thank you so much for the upload! Much appreciated!
thanx 4 d upload
Things have changed now. You can just put the upload link in the description. So many people had accounts closed back then (me too) and had videos muted but now they just stick an advert on it. No hardship really. This is great by the way! I didn't know it existed.
Starting off with Norah Jones? No disrespect but play him first if you're introducing people to his music!
Thank you!
Next week, its Nick Drake presented by Justin Bieber and Jedward
The bbc jingle that starts this off is the bomb!
Next week it's the Beatles covered by Miley Sirus
Wow 👍😎👍
i would love the link!
If you want the full show just inbox me Ive uploaded it and ill give you download link.
Hi, hope all is well! I am not sure if you still have access to this account but could you possibly still share the rest of this doc? It would mean a lot to me! Thank you!
Seems that full documentary is here: archive.org/details/BbcRadio2-LostBoyInSearchOfNickDrake
@AidanMusik I might be more into Jeff Buckley then anyone else in America, I've listened to him almost everyday since 1994. I love Nick Drake and Sia Furhler!
Send me the link!
norah jones cover is atrocious
@mrskujellifeddy agreed, sometimes the singers characteristic voice just doesnt suit nick drake songs, and their spin on it is just horrible
yeah but nothing about nick drake
Do yourself a favour by starting this @ 1:13 to avoid Brad Pitt's lame introduction and (much worse than that, one of the worst things you could ever hear, downright sickening) part of an execrable version of Day Is Done by Norah Jones :/ you're welcome.
Hahahaha
dulls villain...meat puppet fan u like nick drake?
Brad Pitt sounds like a 6th grader reading a book report. Fail, sorta
@grainnepaddock Message me and Ill give you the link.
John Arundell nailed it. As well as all of his repliers. Skip to 1:13. Brad probably did this just to be associated with Nick Drake because I'm sure the gig couldn't afford him. You cannot cover Nick Drake.
Michael Lauritzen get over yourself. He loves music and hosted the show. If that brings more people to listen to his music then it’s a great thing. Maybe his association is what got the thing made in the first place.
message me and ill send you the link
That Norah Jones cover is simply awful. Has no business anywhere on a Nick Drake documentary and especially should not be starting off the program.
i mean its not that bad man, i am happy people gave love to Nick's music
@@diegolagos4920 If not horrible, then hollow.
