Interesting to see the difference in axle articulation between this jobbie and an earlier model such as a 200tdi (eg THE BEAST ! Land Rover 200 TDI). I have a 200tdi and they drop wheels like crazy. I assume LR moved to add stiffness to the road handling with swaybars and whatnot, and traction control was the answer to reduced articulation. Nonetheless good to see Discos pounding the track, though I think I would get impatient waiting for the traction control to kick in - lost momentum and all that. There's also very good lockers and LSDs available - Trutraks are a good compromise.
Nice video and nice Disco! But you only have the TC or even lock the center differential? You made the movie with or without blocking the station? Congratulations cm ² for the posts.
hey man, great videos by the way!!! Im thinking about buying a disco for off-road and camping could you please tell me best year, engine and what I should look for that maybe some of them don't have. thanks in advance and keep the nice videos coming, they are great!
I'm thinking about buying a 2002 Disco II from craigslist (129k miles) I have a tahoe as a daily, and it has 4x4, but my parents wont let me even put on mud tires, so offroading is pointless in it, it can't go anywhere (especially since it is pretty low to the ground.) so I am thinking about buying a Disco II just for offroading and random offroad outings. Good idea or bad idea? It looks in good condition but I've heard the 2002 with open dif sucks. Anyways, my budget is $4k probably. Any ideas? I'm also open to other trucks.
+GhettoMist Thats the truest. Make sure you invest in a well taken care of disco. But for offroading its second to none. The disco even beats out the defender in some cases. Go for it man you will fall in love with the car
How come that car still running after crossing that amount of water while mine is stock in my garage after sprinkle some water in the motor ? It's being 3 weeks and I can't start that disco crap
+Glenda Justiniano Hi Glenda ! I also broke my engine into water, have a look at my other vid "Upgrading a discovery td5 - Land Rover" Next step for you is the snorkel installation !! ;)
Alphonso Blackstone I’d imagine that the weight of the engine provides sufficient weight over the wheels to provide extra traction in reverse direction. Just a theory but sounds about right.
It's now close to 3 years that I own it, and I have never been afraid about breaking down while offroad ! It happens to me only once one the road, when the fuel pump gave up, and a friend of mine rescued me with his Disco TD5 :)
D Con I'm in the same boat as you. I just bought a Discovery and the closest I've gotten to off roading is UA-cam lol. I'm clueless. I'm going on an off-road excursion in a couple weeks with some experienced folks so I'm going to learn the basics from the passenger seat of their 4 Runner
Transsmission I have p38 and i love it but it waste lots of diesel omg i burn my money with it !!!!And now i even have leaking fuel pump and waste crazy amount of diesel :D but i still love it !Thank you for your great videos !
John Theshooter My dad used to own a P38b with the BMW 2.5 litre turbodiesel powerplant. Pretty good engine. Obviously not as efficient as modern diesel, but hey, my 2013 Defender 110 double cab pickup ain't the most efficient in the world either...
Or some B.F.Goodrich mud terrains. They're great tires in my opinion. The B.F.Goodrich Rugged Terrain is a good alternative if the mud terrains don't quite fit your budget. Those disco 2s go pretty well in stock, but they really show what they're made of once you stick a suspension lift, snorkel, winch and mud tires on it.
Still wouldn't even consider a rover never, it just has horrible reliability and too many issues why you think they go for so cheap now 😂😂, get a late 80s/90s Toyota 4x4 and that rover will be betting dusted and left out, plus you always have Japanese reliability on you side 😏😏.
Nice to see someone driving one properly instead of lifting off everytime a wheel slips!
Michael Jones indeed!! most of the Disco drivers don't understand how the TC works so they give up when the wheels start slipping!!
You can really see the traction control working nicely in this video too.
It's working very well, love it !
My fav td5 d2 channel! Keep them coming, from australia.
Tac-Spec Thank you so much !
had "Don't stop me now" playing from queen whilst watching this video... not disappointed!
It's great to see how a stock Disco with open diff and just the TC is rocking that trail.... Good job!
Thank's mate :)
I love my 99 discovery ii ...
Rover is its name.. Lol
And Rover don't get stuck :) GREAT 4×4
lots and lots of mud trails in IL.
awesome video showing how capable a stock disco is
Super !
Beautiful trucks ❤❤❤❤❤
I have got a 2002 td5 discovery and it is really good so get one 😀
beautiful car!!!
Good video. Well done. Well put together:-)
Ce Land Rover est vraiment épatant
it looked like you were gonna tip on 1:05 hahah. i have an 04 disco its my 2nd one. great video
wonderful trail ! and high video quality
Merci beaucoup !
Great video! Did you ever have a crankshaft position sensor problem? I have an 03

nice, i like your off road course aswell, i recon my freelander will be able to tackle most of that
Yes a stock Free would be able to do this trail, except the mud part at the end. Not enough ground clearance
Nice video and nice Disco! But you only have the TC or even lock the center differential?
You made the movie with or without blocking the station?
Congratulations cm ² for the posts.
Great video. Lovely camera work. ..
Thank you Dave
Very nice video, thanks!
Nice one. I love my TD5 :)
Отличный автомобиль
You should install the Diff-lock for the CDL
Yes it's already planned, I need to get more informations.
Transsmission Here's a link to help on the installation
www.discovery2.co.uk/diff_lock.html
excellent video !!!
Thank you Gordon, glad you like it !
So glad to own one of these V8, sad :( we don't have such terrain to drive it on. Only sand :)
hey man, great videos by the way!!!

Which country are you in? That'll dictate which models are available.

Be careful if you buy a bad disco you will go bankrupt. If you get s good one be sure to look after it.
+GhettoMist Thats the truest. Make sure you invest in a well taken care of disco. But for offroading its second to none. The disco even beats out the defender in some cases. Go for it man you will fall in love with the car
Wish we had the diesels here.
Total original?
As long as you still have the P38!!
Yes I still have the 4.6 P38 :)
How come that car still running after crossing that amount of water while mine is stock in my garage after sprinkle some water in the motor ? It's being 3 weeks and I can't start that disco crap
+Glenda Justiniano
Hi Glenda !
I also broke my engine into water, have a look at my other vid "Upgrading a discovery td5 - Land Rover"
Next step for you is the snorkel installation !! ;)
I love LRD II but very expensive parts and repairs in Russia.
2005 year can buy maybe 9-10.000$ here.
Parts are expendive in Russia ?
I would love to get an UAZ 452 !
Transsmission oh... UAZ you need repair every day my friend! ))))
Transsmission maybe someday you come in Russia. I can help you test UAZ here. One my friend have UAZ 452, one have UAZ 469 and one have UAZ Patriot
Oh.. crap !
Transsmission in my region hot summer )))
please what is the song name thannks
nice
these early models don't have ace do they? They flex worse than some IFS trucks
these vehicles have more traction going backwards than they do going forward, why is that??
Alphonso Blackstone I’d imagine that the weight of the engine provides sufficient weight over the wheels to provide extra traction in reverse direction. Just a theory but sounds about right.
Need better tires
This is stock I assume
+GhettoMist Yes !
Transsmission Pretty good for a stock car. Can't wait till I get one!
Hey ! Did you get one ?
Transsmission Not yet I am broke :(
I would love a Discovery, but my fear of it breaking scares me from purchasing one to off road in.
It's now close to 3 years that I own it, and I have never been afraid about breaking down while offroad !

УАЗ рулит !!!!!!
What? You sold the Defender?!? :(
Yes, we did, because he's my every day vehicule for a long distance.
Lol we should be puniched for that !
Transsmission

John Theshooter I thought your P38 was a V8 petrol?
SamTheSuave
No, It's 2.5 Turbo Diesel with leaking fuel pump :D
Get yaself some Grabber AT's mate!!!
Modifs coming soon ..!
Cool. Will be much better!!
grabbers wore out in 6mnths hankook dynopro atx are cheap and last my landy a taxi
Ground Garretting Gar Check out my last video. We got Hankook dynapro MT on the P38, they are great too.

10
wait till the oil creeps from in injector loom and the kills the ecu
When you find it happening get it fixed....$120 - new loom and sealant, by my local L/R Mech.....next?
Get some better tyres.
Already done, check my earlier videos 😉
Cool vid but discoverys are alway clogging up the trail.
get stuck easily
Not too bad for highway tyres though. Muddies would make all the difference
shame it's not reliable
You can't even imagine how strong it is
Transsmission thought land rovers were unreliable and expensive.
mark turner Keep it in good conditions. Mine is my daily driver
Preventative maintenance will see them run for long time with few issues.
this is not American spec, this is euro spec with turbo diesel, the american spec are horrible, with thirsty, underpowered v8s
