My favorite part was the puppet bread, while he could have made 3 at a time, he insisted on splitting it completely half (can't cause its an uneven number) while 4 barely fit in the bowl, only to realise it moments later and made it 3 at a time
1:12:00 This short exchange made me think. Why do people care what measurement system someone uses? At the end of the day, you're just reading off the recipe sheet and adding the exact amount that the recipe calls for. Same with the people watching. It's not like not knowing Imperial/Metric renders you unable to comprehend basic numbers. So really, both Jerma and chat would function perfectly fine using the opposite measuring system than they are used to, despite what they say-- maybe with the exception of those who use their preferred system near constantly and have that info stored in their memory (like recipes), which I don't know about you guys, but I never pay attention to that unless I need to make a cake like once a year and the amount matters. But again, even then I have no issue because my brain knows that 1 tablespoon equals 1 tablespoon. Give me a recipe book that only uses Metric and I'd function no different than usual despite having grown up using Imperial. I do know that it's easier to visualize measurements in a given space when you've used them for a long time, but not when it comes to precise amounts. Therefor it matters not.
It definitely depends on how often you use a system though. I bake a lot, using Imperial units since I'm American, and I have pretty much memorized amounts visually down to the 1/4 teaspoon. If you gave me the same measurements using metric, I would be much less efficient. On the other hand, my father is an engineer and has metric visually memorized to where he can usually estimate fit to the millimeter, but has difficulty doing the same with imperial units since they aren't the standard in his field. I think for general use though you're definitely right, unless you use certain units often enough that it would affect your workflow, we really don't need to care so much
I don't know what Jerma's referencing with the Las Vegas pitch but I was reading up on states without taxes last year. My home state of Florida has no state taxes but only head cases want to live there. There's also Alaska, Nevada (of course), Wyoming, Texas, New Hampshire and one I'm forgetting (I want to say Tennessee, which is almost as bad as Florida). Weighing the relative merits of those, Alaska is by far the most profit-oriented state (you're paid to be a resident there by the oil companies, which are taxed heavily and a portion of that goes back to residents, and jobs there tend to pay extremely well while cost of living is low), but also has very poor population retention and scores poorly in most regards to quality of life. Nevada is probably the best overall for the largest number of people. Wyoming is my personal favourite, though.
