This Dado Blade Storage case was featured on the Woodsmith Shop, E408: Blade & Bit Storage. In this video excerpt, Bryan shows you how to build a custom tote to store you dado blade set.
Use your dado blade to build its own storage case and keep everything organized and protected... This easy-to-build storage case will keep all the parts of your dado set together and within easy reach. All you have here is a two-sided open case. One side holds the scoring blades, and the opposite side holds the chippers and shims. To keep the case lightweight yet sturdy, it’s built with ½" Baltic birch plywood and goes together with basic dado joinery.

I made this a while back. It holds my dado safely and securely. Great piece.

Simple but effective
Thanks, Huw!
Why not just use a 1/2” dado instead of doing 2 cuts with a 1/4” dado?
Why did you use plywood? Plywood is made of multiple thin layers of wood and it could brake easily. Why not use something like pine?
The resin in plywood makes it stronger than your average soft pine. Much more durable too because that resin absorbs into the layers. Helps with the dimensional changes between seasons making it stay fit in those accurate dado slots.
@@FearsomeWarrior interesting thanks I didn't know that.
