This week I have been living with the amazing Ferrari Roma. Powered by a 3.9L twin turbo V8, it makes supercar numbers but promises to be more of a GT experience.
In this video I'm going to see what the public think of the car, and whether it really is that much better than a Jaguar or Aston Martin.
#Ferrari #Roma #AstonMartin

Wake up to find the Hawaiian shirt God Emperor himself has just posted a video. Jolly good innit
😂😂😂
Jolly good indeed
Whos Jolly? 😂
😂😂😂😂😂
Good comment!
It's a pretty car buuuttt that centre console display area along with general control 'buttons' isn't doing it for me
Jay, this was a fantastic upload. Honestly, one of your best. The car meet thing, the real fans by your side, and your love for the Roma really made this episode special.
Coudn't disagree more. First 5 mins are him standing in a car park talking about cars that are around him, without the camera actually showing them. He doesn't even start talking about the Roma until 1/3 through the video, despite the video title is 'living with the Roma'. "One of his best" you say, seriously?
@@TommyWalls007One of the most friendly and genuinely feel-good videos from JayEmm. When he said, “If you’ve come to support me….thank you”, I think he was quite moved (the “quite” bit is English understatement: he was momentarily choked & that hit me in the feels).
JayEmm waving like a windmill on amphetamine, doing a high-speed run-down on the gathered vehicles & a couple that weren’t part of the event, I found unintentionally comic & endearing. Mind you, I’m old enough to be his dad. I’m not, btw. But if I had been, I’d be proud of him. He’s worked very hard to carve out a brightly patterned shirted, unique car journalist-shaped niche for himself.
I think I prefer the DB12 over this Roma but that shot when you took off at the start of the video made Roma look so, so pretty 🥰
I'm a Ferrari guy but I actually agree with you, though if I have to choose, I'd go for DB11 AMR
I am on my second European trip in our Roma and write this from Austria have just clocked over 4000 Miles in 4 Months, the car has been fantastic and no yellow warnings on a dash (🤞)...
We have been amazed by the number of positive reactions to the Roma on our trip, from people wanting to chat to others taking photos.
It can very quickly get to a stable 145 mph on a clear autobahn.
It should be mentioned that you get a 4 year warranty and a 7 year service package with a new Ferrari that stays with the car.
What colour did you go for David?
We went for Blu Roma, Shields, yellow calipers, silver wheels and cuio interior.
Honestly, the Roma is the first truly beautiful Ferrari since the F355 and the first one since the FF that I would actually like to own. So good taste, there.
The only reason I have ordered Roma, is ability to drive it daily. Life is too short to drive boring cars.
Cool to see my Abarth feature on the channel for a brief moment! Great to meet you at this meet James really good vibe from all involved!
Glimpsed > featured
James knows how to shoot. Anthony: take lessons! You followed James, not the cars! At least he was in focus the whole time. The cars weren't...
just wanted to say the same
😂😂 I figured he was just free-handing an iPhone.
I don't think we can even say he was in focus the whole time. Especially at the start when james was walking backwards between cars, it seemed like the camera was just left to do whatever it felt like, rather than having the focus tracking James or the thing he was pointing at. Totally understandable if you don't do the whole video thing very often, but i'm led to understand Anthony is also involved with producing UA-cam content?
You would have thought Ferrari would have sorted or swapped the faulty Roma immediately. Every video made with this car must harm the image and sales.
I have an F-Type R which obviously has the best arse in the world, but I have to confess to my trousers getting a little tight when I look at the rear of a Roma. Bit more money though... I think the 'driving slowly' feedback is important. My car gets me so many glances, "nice car", etc things that shouldn't matter, but they make you feel good. Absolutely sure that's ++ in a Roma!
Sounds like you want to poke it up the tailpipe 😂😂😂
Problem with it in my opinion is the grill makes it look like an electric car instantly, that was my first thought, id assume it was a new tesla especially in white, maybe to underwhelming but gorgeous, to tesla-esque in styling
T r u e words! ;)
The looks are really good and it comes off as a liveable everyday ferrari and not so scary and pricey as a F12 OR 812. The Roma comes off as a car Maserati are trying to do.
With all the negative points, i'd say this car is a no go. I dont pay so much for a car that throws electrical issues at me on a daily basis. I wont pay so much money for a car which is missing the most normal features which you can find in so many low to middle class cars. At this price point the car should feel above others in every technical aspect.
The Roma IS one of the most beautiful cars of recent years, if not longer. I work very close to Graypaul Solihull (and Porsche Birmingham) and get to see many stunning cars. The Roma is just gorgeous. I don't see a bad angle anywhere.
The g r i l l. :/
@@elexalexI’m with you on the grille. I’m not in the market for such a vehicle. But if I was, that feature would cause me to scratch it from the shortlist. Tbh, it’s just way too much car for me in any case. I’m no longer that good a driver, if I ever was.
I’ve not had the most ambitious list of cars, the most sporting being a brace of Audi S3s, one of them modestly breathed on, to early RS3 output but with lower weight.
I’m noodling over various 911s at the moment. I love the idea of a Turbo coupe (with or without the S). My wife is worried that “That’s way too much power for road use”. Of course it is.
I assume most of us 'regular' drivers are not as good to reach out peak performances of high-tech engineered sportscars as the Roma or especially the 911 turbo - btw, my gf shares a similar idea of 'too much power for the road" even considering my AMG GTS. :)
What‘s your opinion about the new Vantage? Definitely shortlisted.
"gotten"? you are'nt Judge Judy 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You really really were not impressed when you first drove it in Italy. I think the Ferrari PR Team had a long chat with you so you "changed" your mind. In return next time you will make the list for that limited edition pista, stradale or whatever. Isn't that what happened, Jay?
no contest. Db12 forever
No
HI! Great review. I own a Roma and encountered same problem.
Most likely you had so many errors on your Roma is because someone before you fully discharged the battery and trickle charged it after (I assume this was the case it being a press car). Even after you charge it to maximum, messages will appear until the end of time.
Only new battery can solve the issue. At least this worked out for me.
@@DesignIsDestiny nope. you have a charge port on magnets right outside on rear bumper, so it’s easier to charge than iphone, but no, no switch.
I was told in dealership that after being discharged, battery cannot give enough voltage and in worst case re-charge can burn all electric systems in the car. So you either do not discharge it or buy new one.
Ferrari is cool, but I’m excited to hear more about your s2000 😎
😂
I agree with you completly. It is one of the most beautiful Ferraris ever made, it's powerful and strong, it sounds great, it's comfortable, and you can use it everyday and drive in a sporty Manor any time you choose to. It's the perfect gt/sports car.
Great review and video
The DB12 is so much sexier especially the back half of the car, but the Roma is still a Ferrari. It will probably age more gracefully and depreciate much less than the Aston Martin.
Ferrari sucking for 25 min. He just said that the Roma is the best car ever made. C mon...go back to reviewing Miatas and Renaults man.
Excellent video. I bought my Roma in April and everything you said in this video is 100% spot on. It’s grown on me. I have a Huracan Technica 60th anniversary coming in I was going to trade the Roma in for but I’m now keeping both and am not as excited for the lambo anymore.
Jay, I hope you get to own & drive every (ice) car ever made cause no one shares the experience better than you do; nselfishly, pragmatically and passionately. Thank you and please keep it up!
I guess we can all agree that Roma is damn gorgeous, but can we also acknowledge the background music, lord i must say it made my day.
Well the AM DB12 beats this Aston copy hand down ….. come on….?
The Roma in white just looks bad imo... it is a beautiful car in darker shades, but white? Meh...
This is obviously a car that you need to see in the metal to understand the desire of it, to me its just another F type shape. Not that i expect i will ever be in a position to be in with a chance of making a purchase to experience the glory. Interesting viewing nevertheless.
Got the Roma for 3 months ago and its everything I could have hoped for! Your original launch review especially your closing (reflections on the plane) hit home with me at the time of ordering. Thought your two recent reviews were a great reflection of this fab car. Look forward to your views when you match your Roma experience up with driving the DB12!
Great video, really good review and refreshingly creative
You should do a video for us iphone guys on how to use an android 😅 i would watch that!!
What color is this car? Seems like a matte white, no?
"I'm whispering because it's 6am..." (Starts Ferrari)
*cold starts
Thanks J, Roma front reminds me of a medieval knights helmet visor/armour! Glad you've enjoyed car & Gilk's went well for everyone! 🙏🙏
Very tough choice I'd have this along with the db12...two of the best looking cars in production...full stop
the new DB12 is still better.
Not in white please. The steel grey ones look really elegant.
What's the ref for this shade of white ?
These are growing on me. It doesn't do any harm that they remind me of the F-Type visually. Your shirt seems to have ruined the camera's ability to focus.
drove it on a Ferrari test day main complaints were an annoying drone in the cabin at cruising speeds, and the haptic controls are just soooooo annoying. plus lastly no real drama in it …cant beat my 458
I followed on ethe other day in my M4 Competition and have to say I really liked the rear, just the front really doesnt do much for me - the grill is kind of strange for my eyes.
Quality video JayEmm - enjoyed hearing your balanced via and comparisons against alternatives…. I was fully expecting you to say this might be a futre entrance to the JayEmm fleet.
Too tall, too much car above those giant ass wheels.
It isnt nice looking, Aston or McLaren are better looking more comfortable fast and don't break down every other day
I feel like this is very much a successor to the 612 in a few ways. Put them side by side and you can see the styling similarities, even if the Roma looks much more slick and flows better in many angles. I’d love to see a comparison video, especially when the V12 comes out in the next few months/years. If you’re finding this one hard to resist, I think that might just push you over the edge…..
No.
I loved the 456 but could never get on with the 612, those melted rear haunches .. wonderful inside to ride around in but the styling..
@@alexjaybrady Everything comes around in time. the 612 will have its day.
Can you to a video on the Abarth 124? great channel btw!
Everyone is different! I’ve test driven the Roma for long enough to find that it didn’t inspire me at all! The driving was ok but bland.
I found it cramped, and hard to get out of. I’m 6’1 tall. I’ve had 7 Ferrari since 1985, and like yourself have experienced the big bills! I’d quite like a modern GT with a reduced risk of anything going wrong. My present 1988 Ferrari Mondial 3.2 is far easier to see out of than the Roma, and I find more rewarding to drive. I’ve not yet had any major issues apart from the wipers not working, but it was an easy fix. It’s done 73,800 miles and I think I’ll keep it! It saved me £200,000 on buying cost too. Would you prefer the Roma to your 550? I think the cost of depreciation on the Roma has to be factored in. All the 2+2 Ferrari’s drop in value. Some worse than others. I’m inclined to think that a modern in age and therefore potentially cheaper to afford to run, California or California T, at around £59,950 would be best. The Roma will loose a shed load of money in its early years as does the Aston. My Mondial does ok for the £31,500 I paid in Sept 2019. I don’t want to drive it daily, Ferrari driving is for those days when a 05.30am drive on a Spring or Summer’s day just makes life worth living. I love my manual shift, and sound of the engine, things the Roma lacked. You should take a Ferrari 308 GT4 for a run. I’ve had 4 of them. I reckon you’d like one.
I like the idea of a sensible Ferrari. Still fast, but I don't need a 1000HP. This will be my pick.
Always thought the Roma looked bit bland but I really liked it in this spec with the off white and black trim😊
I should hope it is better than a 911, it starts at near twice the f'ing price.
This is the Best ROMA Review I've seen out of all of them. You made it make sense and I felt what you described. Plus...seeing 4 big men sitting in it..was an excellent visual. I'm so glad they fit.
"The interior can take the fight"
What kind of cool aid did you drink, the interior of the DB12 blows the interior of literally any Ferrari out of the water.
The rival of the DB12 is something like the Continental GT
The back of the Ferrari Roma let's it down. I like the new Aston Martin DB12 and they will probably make it a little bit more special later on.
New DB12 for me but this Roma gas grown on me.
That grey color in the Ferrari promo video looks perfect on the Roma.✌🏻🇺🇸
Bellissima in that pearl white
Arrgghhh please learn the difference between imply and infer. Otherwise love the channel 🙂
The Ferrari B-roll pieces are pure art, imo. Pretty thing.
Love the front of the Roma. Give us more painted surfaces rather than shoddy gloss black plastic like every other manufacturer is obsessed with
This Ferrari looks more Aston-Martin-ish than any modern Aston Martin.
I miss the James Bond Casino Royale DBS. Elegance at its finest. Best Ever.
Excellent and Outstanding!!!
I’m trying so hard to like the grill!
It just looks exactly like Construction Fencing here in America. Outside of that it’s fabulous!
Please see a physician if your mini is spicy
Love this, really useful guide to the Roma! It's on my list vs an F12... neighbours is a consideration here, I assume the F12 (stock exhaust) is a loud startup?
Screw your neighbors bruv
Hi James, when are you going to do a Saab 9-5 aero? The best performance sleeper car!
I like how I am watching a definitive guide about an expensive Ferrari as if I really have to make a decision to buy this one or a lamborghini.
Love the comments..but as you said about the 911..I understand....BUT..the Prancing horse is (at least) £100-120k more than a well specced Porker...and for mere mortals is as Ferrari want....totally out of reach...
The Pastafarian "colander" grill of the Roma is a joke. See most any DB for a proper front end. And why did the Roma borrow the Aston DB11's rear? Who's benchmarking who?
Its a good looking car for sure BUT FOR 1 thing - there were 2 shots in this video where you were going down the road and that little wing popped up utterly ruining the lines of the car from the outside. Really hope theres an option to not have that haha
The exterior is beautiful except for the grill which looks like a teenager with wire teeth braces but the interior is a fail for me. The floating iPad design doesn’t work.
Jayemm "...made my meat possible..." @7:33 = whuutt ?? !!
Apologies > misinterpretation...
Android Auto's absence of typically ignored in most reviews. Instead they simply applaud Apple Carplay's inclusion. For those of us that wouldn't touch Apple's ecosystem with a barge pole, this is most annoying. Rolls Royce and Bentley are as bad.
This is me walking through any Sainsburies carpark; my gf is less interested than Anthony tho sadly 😢
It’s so likeable because it was supposed to be a Maserati.
The MC20 was supposed to be Alfa Romeo’s supercar.
Go figure!
It does indeed have a lovely rear end 😁
Front-engined Ferraris do so much more for me than mids
I really enjoyed this vlog
A great day, lovely to meet you and see the Roma in the flesh - much better than in photos.
I used to not like the roma because the engine doesn't sound that good, but now it has grown on me. The aspect of its daily usage and looks changed my mind
it's hard to not to struggle with pronouns these days? but most italian cars are referred to as "la macchina" i.e. female, so admiring her bum is delightfully all right
I love the Ferrari Roma except I don't like the Adobe Illustrator designed microplane grill.
The camera man/woman has to have a crush on you. You're presenting cars and he is filming you exclusively. I fail to see a relevance
My 2005 f150 has android auto lol.Still love this car ❤. It should also have Auto open and close rear hatch
What a bunch of nonsense, the roma is pure plagiarism of the aston martin db11. I still dont understand how aston martin lets ferrari get away with this
James, I didn't watch it all the way through. You said everything important at the beginning. Ferrari is drop dead gorgeous. In it I would expect only gentlemen like you, and not freshly baked rich people, who think they are gentlemen or in this way would like to be. Petrolhead meeting is a beautiful and very interesting thing. I welcome all such gatherings. I think it's the right way to gain insight into the thinking of people who love and even know a lot about their cars. Did you notice one thing? Did someone come with an SUV? If we have cars like the Roma, those beautiful old Rovers, the wonderful Jaguar and others, why do we need, for example, a compact SUV whose name is even more meaningless, which is a crossover of some hippo/rhino/crocodile species? For example Taigutan, Qroquoq, Couga (this last one, ...is it a Korean term for mountain lion with broken legs?). In fact, when I see them on the road, I wouldn't be able to tell which one is which, but at least I remembered the name..., well, I guess...
I suggest that we found a political party whose motto is
"Let's make GTs great again" Any GTs, big, small, I don't care. Let it be the new Fiat 850, Royale coup or new all electric XJC.
Just give us the cars back... please.
The old standby for many years as an entry point was the humble Mustang. They actually are very good for just getting in and using it for whatever. Sadly, they appear to be soon replaced with things like the Mach-E.
@@plektosgaming 👍👍👍
The car is plain ugly. The front grill is way too fussy. And frankly if you put an Aston or Jaguar badge on it noone would notice
Sadly your bang on about the electrics in this car that's why there is so meany up for sale that says it all ...DB12 for me
Ferrari infotainment in a ‘daily’ gt car though. Could you really deal with that awful system every day or for hours at a time?
I saw a red one from the front briefly in traffic the other day and didn't rate it at all, the grill looks a bit poxy in red... Silver is a lot better.
Until the Roma I have to say that I just wasn't interested in modern Ferraris. I'm not the indulged scion of arabian oil money , I don't care about the stock market. I don't like looking like ....a tosser. Ferraris were not for me, at all. Then there's the Roma. Finally something that can turn my head away from an Aston or a Jag.
7:25 - Body is VERY similar to a Porsche Taycan
Edit: Just not as nice looking
I think the Roma is perhaps the best Ferrari in the line up at the moment. The SP3 being the best looking for me, but that's a kind of limited model. As a "normal" Ferrari, I think the Roma nails it. Front engined, lovely GT body. Just nice. (I also like the Portofino a lot too)
Nah. The 296 is the best car in the World right now.
@@theknowlodge8294 I should have added "best for me". I don't really like the mid engined stuff for the most part. The last one I actually liked was the 355.
Never ever have seen a car person be more conscious on their neighbors and even houses nearby at this guy does only person so far been this attitude
I just can’t get into almost any new cars. Imagine all that electronic crap in 20 years. 😳
Jay - you need someone on board who understands depth of focus - I could not see half of the cars
6:50 Love that fact you told him to point at the TVR!
You like the TVR because it reminds you of a chocolate brand… 😂
I like the Roma but the touch sensitive/haptic switchgear is terrible.
I'm not sure I'd take this over the new GranTurismo or DB12
Ferrari start with the design then make the engineering fit. I’ll pass every time.
Rover P5B coupé, the first official 4-door coupé?
