Hi Jenny, 😊 We were used to the elevation since we came from Queretaro which sits at a higher elevation, but you're right....it definitely adds another twist. 😉
Maybe same issue? We had the egg smell in our casita here in B.C.S. The smell is typically caused by sulfate bacteria that can develop within the tank if it has been sitting unused for some time. Looks like my worst nightmare of moving to Mexico. Hope you guys can find a better situation soon. I love your take on things but I don't think that apartment is the life you were meant to live. At least not for too long. I'm surprised you can't call a taxi company on the phone. Like in the olden times when I was young

Hey guys me and the wife are loving the content we are looking to make our move to Mexico and we wanted to know how you guys support your self do you guys have jobs down there do you blog on youtube to get money how do you guys servive
Hi Storm, Thanks for your comment. To be very honest, freelancing type work and most importantly being frugal and wise with our spending in all aspects. You will have to find what works for you as there are no easy/ cut & dry answers, or "blueprint" despite what people may lead you to believe. Nothing is guaranteed in this lifestyle and we definitely took a huge risk leaving the "norm" to live a life of "planned risk" if you will. It isn't for the faint of heart but we dont regret it because we definitely felt it in our heart long before, that we weren't doing what we were meant to do. We also very much appreciate the support of our valuable viewers who we work hard to provide free resources to, and share truthful/ real day-to-day life with here in Mexico. This is one of our very first videos where we shared some personal info about our decision to leave the U.S. if you're interested ua-cam.com/video/nO9oJsegkD8/v-deo.html.
@@WhyNotNow I was thinking about blogging and my wife wanted to do photography if you don't mind me asking what is your revenue per month like how much do you guys make freelancing per month so we can get an idea
Great video telling it like it is. As someone else commented, I do not think this is the life you are meant to live-that is in regard to your new apartment. Although the price is super good, I would think the cons outweigh the pros. I don’t know what else you saw, but I hope you can find something more commodious. I really love your walkabouts-this location will make them more difficult. Whatever you do, we wish you the best and look forward to experiencing Oaxaca with you.
The gecko palace! Maybe you could buy a used washer if the landlord will install. And maybe a scooter? You could sell it if you move again. A new adventure!
@@WhyNotNow nope, I'm really not, I learn from you guys (take a shot LOL) I know geckos are initially kinda creepy but they're also cool. And it is their apartment, after all, they were there first LOL! Proud of you guys!
Walkable..... Right! 🙄 I hear that all the time. Not quite true. I've been in Ajijic for a while now, and it's supposed to be walkable, it is not. The cobblestone streets are very hard to walk on, uneven, loose stones, etc.... Walk a mile and you are tired! Potential for tripping/falling is high as well. Leaving Monday for real paved streets. 👍
@@WhyNotNow it is, soon to be was, I'm heading to Guadalajara tomorrow. From there, not sure, looking at La Paz, I've been in Mexico since September, still haven't been to the sea. The thing about the cobblestones here is they are loose, and can shift unpredictably. Around here they say it's not a question of if you will fall, but when. I have walked on cobblestone streets where they are set in concrete, makes a world of difference!
😄 We completely get it D Walker....it is one thing to see them outside, but in your house at 2am while using the bathroom, well, that adds a whole new element...😉😁
I travel a lot to Mexico. The taxi services are a mafia onto themselves. Uber has a hard time getting going. The brave individuals who start it out will be met with definite aggression
Hi Aurora, 🦋 Every situation, and every city will have it's own way of going about things. The key is to always negotiate whatever you you require to meet your personal needs/ situation. What I can tell you though from what we have seen so far, is Oaxaca seems to be more about if you have the $ to pay but, that isn't always a good thing (sometimes it does just work out where you get a decent landlord).
A gecko in the house is supposedly good luck. Also, you can thank Fred and Larry for eating all the cockroaches you might otherwise be having to deal with.
You need to find a raxi driver or two who will pick you up when you need them. Many taxistas like to have private clients, There are many Oaxaquenos who earn their living driving local cabs, and many of them are good, reliable people.
We actually did (future conversations to be had/future videos). Things take time to come together but eventually we learn the ins/ outs. Good suggestion though Susan.
Are the gyms nice in Oaxaca for lifting weights and doing cardio? Is there enough to do or do you find yourself getting bored? Any English bookstores. 😊✌🏻
Hi Christopher, We've come across gyms but can't personally tell you how they are (sure there is a mixture 👍👎). There is an English library; if you search it on the internet, you'll see it. We are pretty simple people so we are good for the most part. 😉
I think the street dogs are territorial maybe if they get used to your dogs they might not be as aggressive. I walked by a fenced dog who always barked at me and now he ignores me.
Hi Dena, That is the case sometimes. We wouldn't test that theory however with our little guys because as I'm sure you can imagine, one paw (even playfully) from a larger dog could break our little guys bones as they are very small/ fragile.
I think it's a nice apartment, however I think It's a little over priced.I've seen apartments like yours even a little bigger go for around $200.00 to $280.00 USD per month .If you are planning on living there for a while you can always invest in a portable washer and also invest in small moped/scooter type of bike .It will help you going up and down those hills .
You know 1700gm, there probably were some options at one point but there were slim pickings when we came down. We were told "high season" was the culprit.
Hi Kat, We will def evaluate as we go. As I mentioned in the video, wasn't feeling too well so you likely saw that. Every day went be perfect and that's ok; it's just something called "life" and none of us are exempt to it. 😉
Can you please share how you found the apartment? Is it a formal poliza juridica, background check, lease signing process like it often is in Queretaro? Or is it more informal? Good video. Thank you.
I just do a lot of legwork as usual. Asking around etc..this was more in formal in that all they had was a simple 2 page contract and no deposit was asked. As I always say, every situation will be different, and every city has it's own challenges to navigate so negotiating is key.
@@christiangee942 Hi Christian, For this particular place no, the owner did not ask for one. Again, every situation will be different and I'm sure there are others that absolutely will.
I'm glad to read you didn't pay a deposit. It means you can move to somewhere more appropriate quicker with less penalty. That's a relief. As you say it's life. You made.a decision and it's not going to work for you I suspect. You are one step closer to being in a better place .
There are a lot more negatives than positives, which makes me think that, despite the low rent, you arent't going to be there very long. What you describe is the classical description of the third world, with its few positives and abundant negatives. You are not in Denmark or Sweden, as you have realized by now. You could say to your dog, Joe Pesci, we aren't in Copenhagen anymore. You probably already knew that Oaxaca is in one of the poorest states in Mexico, (I think only Chiapas is poorer) and that is why the cost of living is lower than in Querétaro. The steep climb up to your apartment would put most people off, but probably the people that live up there have no choice. By having dogs you are always going to find it difficult to get a nice, small apartment closer to the city center. That is the choice you made. I did enjoy the video though and I commend you for your honesty. Keep up the good work. P.S. Did the crucified Jesus come with the apartment? I know some people are going to attack me but as a non-Christian that is the first thing I would put away in a drawer.
Hi Ray, You've been watching our videos for some time on and off, so I would think you would have some idea as to the type of people we are. We absolutely do not expect to, nor desire to live a luxurious life and have experienced life's challenges long before we even thought to move to Mexico. We are very diverse in our life experiences but the purpose of the video is to do what we do...share our personal, honest experiences/ thoughts. It is why people trust us, and support our work (which we are very grateful for). ❣ Glad to hear you enjoyed the video. As for your question/comment regarding the crucifix, you have a right to your opinion and we always tell our viewers we want to hear varying opinions so long as they are genuine, and respectful. With that said, no one has the right to "attack you" but yes, people will attempt to do so. We too, are very familiar with that personally by putting ourselves out on a public platform regularly to be judged ~ it is what humans do best unfortunately. We personally are fine with the crucifix that did indeed come with the apartment (we do believe in God as you probably already know).
@@WhyNotNow I know that you are not the types to stay in luxury hotels or eat at the best restaurants and neither am I. I identify much more with people like you than the ones who stay at the expensive villas. I am quite frugal myself and not materialistic at all. You are doing a great job. Keep it up.
Lisa Marie, I wonder if you might want to take a Covid test, as well as start drinking electrolyte water (if you aren't), in case you're feeling unwell from the elevation. I'm very sensitive like you, I know your pain. :)
Thanks for your concern Kristel. 🙏 The elevation in Oaxaca is about 1,000 feet less than where we had moved from in Queretaro. I will tell you that I was expecting to have issues when we first moved to Queretaro but I was good. You may do well too. 🙏💕
To be honest I was surprised at your decision of Oaxaca when there are so many other beautiful small towns in Mexico. Oaxaca is known for having pollution and being higher up you will have more smoke and smog from fires and fireworks. (Many locals burn their trash including all the plastic and that can be toxic). Wait till summer because the higher up you are the hotter it will be. You will be grateful for the geckos soon because with the heat comes the hormigas (ants), looking for water and water bugs that can come up from the drains. Most people keep a rubber covering over the shower drains to stop the sulfur smell. Hopefully you will find a more suitable apartment in the city to avoid the pollution and steep hills if you decide to stay in Oaxaca. How did you like Puebla or Aguascalientes? Might be a good alternative.
Hi Dina, You know what, I'm glad you said it because these are the important things that need to be shared/ heard. Most people focus on either Centro, or the beaches in Oaxaca and the real details are what truly matter when you are going to be living (not vacationing,/ visiting) in a city. This is exactly why we do the work we do on our channel and share our experiences, both good, and bad. We want to really be a resource for others and going through those unexpected twists and turns, experiencing through real day-to-day life is the only way. And oh yes......we already saw the hormigas....never saw SO many at one time before and they are HUGE. The geckos are indeed little helpers despite the fact they still freak me out when they suddenly scamper across you unexpectedly. 😉 Dont even tell me about the other right now because when I lived in Atlanta, GA the HUGE flying cockroaches (palmettos) still give me nightmares. Queretaro had them too actually, but I didn't see them as much as I did in GA. We will absolutely evaluate as we go along and take you all along with us for the journey. Oh...and yes, Puebla and Aguascalientes are nice but again, visiting and living will present two completely different experiences. We would have to live there for some time to learn the ins and outs, as well as understand the challenges that exist (as every place presents it's own challenges).
@@WhyNotNow Glad you are up for the challenge of the journey I’m Oaxaca! The food is great and people are nice. We are going to Morelia next week to check it out.

Hey guys me and the wife are loving the content we are looking to make our move to Mexico and we wanted to know how you guys support your self do you guys have jobs down there do you blog on youtube to get money how do you guys servive
Hey what's a good way to make money in Mexico
Thank you very much for the reply and by freelance type work what exactly do you mean by that if you don't mind me asking could you elaborate a little
This is my wife's dream
We appreciate you Cindy, thanks for sharing your thoughts. 🙏 We will have to further evaluate some things. 💕
How much do you spend on groceries a month in Oaxaca?
How much
Just finished watching your video. A lot of challenges with this one. I hope they can be worked out 💪 soon.🙁 🥰
❤
"Excuse the mess." Me: What mess? lol. You should see my office, lol.
😄😉
Beautiful
Harry and Fred...LOL..cool guys
😉
The gecko palace! Maybe you could buy a used washer if the landlord will install. And maybe a scooter? You could sell it if you move again. A new adventure!
You are so optimistic Darkk Star...😄 Love it! 😁💕
@@WhyNotNow nope, I'm really not, I learn from you guys (take a shot LOL) I know geckos are initially kinda creepy but they're also cool. And it is their apartment, after all, they were there first LOL! Proud of you guys!
Mezcal for everyone!! Ay! 😉😄 You are SO right...we completely invaded their space! 😳😄 They are VERY helpful little guys for sure. 💕
Sounds like you guys need to move!! Too many cons. 😲
💕
Walkable..... Right! 🙄 I hear that all the time. Not quite true. I've been in Ajijic for a while now, and it's supposed to be walkable, it is not. The cobblestone streets are very hard to walk on, uneven, loose stones, etc.... Walk a mile and you are tired! Potential for tripping/falling is high as well. Leaving Monday for real paved streets. 👍
That must be difficult for you Terry. We recall another viewer saying the same. What city/ cities are you considering?
@@WhyNotNow it is, soon to be was, I'm heading to Guadalajara tomorrow. From there, not sure, looking at La Paz, I've been in Mexico since September, still haven't been to the sea. The thing about the cobblestones here is they are loose, and can shift unpredictably. Around here they say it's not a question of if you will fall, but when. I have walked on cobblestone streets where they are set in concrete, makes a world of difference!
I hear you...well, be careful in the meantime and safe travels tomorrow. Hope you find a good place to settle in soon.
@@WhyNotNow thank you, please be well yourself. 😁 Not sure if Mexico will be my forever home, remains to be seen.
Thanks Terry. Understood...this life is a journey. 😉
Fred eats Flys 🪰
😁
So, a car is a necessity for you?
Hi Bob, No, we've been living in Mexico for almost a year and a half now without one.
I wouldn’t know be able to deal with #3 no way I’m a big chicken
😄 We completely get it D Walker....it is one thing to see them outside, but in your house at 2am while using the bathroom, well, that adds a whole new element...😉😁
You need a motorcycle/moped!!!
😁
I travel a lot to Mexico. The taxi services are a mafia onto themselves. Uber has a hard time getting going. The brave individuals who start it out will be met with definite aggression
Thanks for sharing Drew. 😊
Do they make you sign a lease and deposit like the states?
Hi Aurora, 🦋 Every situation, and every city will have it's own way of going about things. The key is to always negotiate whatever you you require to meet your personal needs/ situation. What I can tell you though from what we have seen so far, is Oaxaca seems to be more about if you have the $ to pay but, that isn't always a good thing (sometimes it does just work out where you get a decent landlord).
You said guys 15 times before you even opened the front door 😂
Ok, thanks.
A gecko in the house is supposedly good luck. Also, you can thank Fred and Larry for eating all the cockroaches you might otherwise be having to deal with.
That is what we stated in another comment...they are definitely helpers managing the insect population. 😉
I thought it was pronounced, "May Be." As in maybe it will work...
Real estate is up everywhere. You are still living in 2019
you don't sound very happy . maybe you should move /leave sooner than
later.
Hi Kat, We will def
evaluate as we go. As I mentioned in the video, wasn't feeling too well so you likely saw that. Every day went be perfect and that's ok; it's just something called "life" and none of us are exempt to it. 😉
Thought of you guys when my wife said she felt an earthquake this evening... Did you guys feel it up in Aurora?
Hi Jesco, No we didn't experience anything.
@@WhyNotNow Very helpful. Thank you. its a really charming place.
Ok so no deposit for this place ?
@@christiangee942 Hi Christian, For this particular place no, the owner did not ask for one. Again, every situation will be different and I'm sure there are others that absolutely will.
I'm glad to read you didn't pay a deposit. It means you can move to somewhere more appropriate quicker with less penalty. That's a relief. As you say it's life. You made.a decision and it's not going to work for you I suspect. You are one step closer to being in a better place .
Rent $7000 pesos weekly???
Hi TravelWithMe, No way....😉 that would be horrible! Per month.

You need step stools so the doggies can get up & down from the bed!
😊
Are you on a month to month lease so you could move in Feb.? Be good to yourselves.
Hi Laura, No this isn't a month-to-month.
@@WhyNotNow Bummer but it is great for the two dogs!
@@laurayale369 😉 Indeed..
@@WhyNotNow Oh I didn't realize Queretaro was so high up! Well I hope you're feeling better soon!
Wov
Sounds like the cons are pretty serious, maybe you won't be there too long
We will definitely be assessing as we go along Bob. 😉
Let us know how you guys like Morelia.
Your videos are so good but can’t listen to all the “guys” you say every 5 words!!! Too bad!!
Ok, thanks.
