Hi, I Appreciate you! I recently found 3 fantastic n rare tea cups with saucers and about 5 extra desert saucers of the same design. I have been Thrifting for some time . However, prior to finding YR site, I was not aware of these tea-cup sets being valuable. I have been moreso into antique wine glasses, etc.
On my search they are 30.00 per set. I got all of that for approx $ 2.00! THANK YOU!

Years ago I used to work as a cleaner/housekeeper in private households. One retired couple I worked for the wife was German born of Austrian aristocracy. The four years that I worked for them gave me huge respect for the love and care of antiquities. She had several china, porcelain and silver dinner and tea services, along with a lot of oddments. I used to actually have the job of washing up these items after they had had breakfast. The rare antique Meissen made me most nervous. Although they weren’t used, I had to keep them clean. These cups and saucers were some of Meissen’s rarest and valued in the region of 2-6 thousand British pounds. That was 30 years ago, heaven knows their value now. One teacup and saucer she owned was apparently one set of only 4 known to be in existence. Two of which were in European royal households. I was thankful back then for having very steady hands!!

I have a champagne flute from a royal house in Germany. It was stolen by a solider at the end of WWI and he smuggled it back in his backpack. He fell on hard times and sold it to my great aunt. It’s been in my family for 100 years. I’m scared to death to touch it. (I used to clean a house that was also filled with antiques, I know how nerve racking it can be!)

@@snowwhite5842 Amazing how so many items like this ended up all over the world during and after the war. My Grandad acquired a bullet casing from a rifle fired at Dunkirk. He fashioned it into a miniature brass pocket knife with a steel blade which I inherited from my parents. I also have the soul surviving item from a complete Dresden China dinner service that belonged to my great great aunt after her house was hit by a doodle bug during the London blitz. As a single item it’s value is very little, but the the complete service would have been worth tens of thousands. Awful to think quite how many valuable and priceless antiquities were lost during WW2.

I love buying and selling teacups for exactly this reason - most people don't know the difference between one that's $20 and one that's $200. Which means at an estate sale where they're all $10-20 you can grab the good ones if you've got some knowledge. I pretty much buy any Paragon set I find that is in good condition and not too expensive. I always look up Aynsley if I don't recognize the pattern. My two best that I can recall were an Aynsley floral painted by Bailey, and Aynsley butterfly handle, both sold around $600 IIRC.
Any fine bone china with a fully hand painted interior is worth looking up.
Paragon also produced some patterns with flower shaped handles that can go for $500+.

I'm a retired English professor and agree with the previous comments regarding pronunciation. Another one is gold "gilt" which is pronounced the same as "guilt" not "jilt". If you brush up on those pronunciations, Kat, you'll knock your videos even farther out of the park! I'm totally psyched to search for tea cups more than I ever was before. I thrifted 24 pcs Johnson Bros Rose Chintz tea cups/saucers with sugar bowl and creamer from Goodwill today for $12.99 and got excited about that! I can't imagine how I'd feel if I found any of those you showed!! I hope you find the set in your death pile and do a follow up when it sells. Good luck and thanks for all the work you put in to your extensive research and for sharing it 🙂

I’m older as well, 66 to be exact. Also, I began my adult life as a High School English teacher. Mispronunciation makes me cringe. I love Kat to pieces, but she is loaded with them! She is not the only one. Many popular You Tube presenters are terrible at managing the pronunciation of many words, particularly those with foreign origins. Most of those that I follow are knowledgeable in their selling areas so I can forgive the rest. (There are a couple I have come across that not only pronounce words badly but put out a lot of misinformation as well. That is another story!)

Very true. When my son, an ADD kid, was in 1st grade he wasn’t picking up on reading. Our school district had adopted the latest fad (as they always did) which was “whole language” at the time. Quite a few kids were not responding. Their teacher was a veteran teacher nearing retirement. She had collected early readers and phonics workbooks throughout her career. I remembered having used some of these books when I was small!
She began to give them to some of the affected students, assigning pages for homework to be done with their parent. I sat with my son every evening as he worked through his assigned pages to bring back to his teacher the next day. I began to call this the “underground reading program!”
It was a secret and we could not let on to the school administration that we were doing this as this teacher was bucking the prescribed curriculum for certain students. (I didn’t speak of it until years after she retired.)
By the end of the term, my son could read at grade level. As he grew, he became an avid reader. He also became extremely articulate, able to speak in a manner that belied any evidence that he had ever had learning disabilities. Of course, he still had them, but the success he experienced that year taught him that there were ways to compensate for what he found difficult. The skills he gained that year he used for the rest of his life.

I kept the ones that were my favorites to remember them by, but the remainder were sold at an estate sale. They brought very little interest and the auctioneer priced them at $10.00 here in the US. When we were doing antique shows and had a shop from the late 1980s to 2001, we sold lots of teacups. Older women no longer used them very much but they still had them from when they were young stay-at-home moms who went to neighbors' houses for coffee and exchanged "friendship" cups as gifts. Now young people don't even know about those activities because their own mothers were part of the first (or sometimes second) generation where more moms worked outside the home than stayed home.
One of the things I was told was that "double Paragon" was more expensive than "single". "Double" has 2 marks on the back rather than one. Sure enough, all of your Paragons are "doubles" except for the very most expensive one, which is a single. I don't know why this would be so, since the last one is very fancy.
Great video! I'd like to see videos about smoking "tools" (match cases, lighters, cigar and cigarette cases, cigar cutters, etc.) and vanity items like hair receivers, hand mirrors, hair and clothes, etc.

The double mark on the Paragon is a called a Double Royal Warrant given by permission of the reigning queen to use the pattern that was originally made for them. The Double means that 2 queens were alive when that pattern was made, one being the current reigning one and the other the widiowed queen, Queen Elizabeth the 1st and widowed Queen Mary are the 2 on the double warrant on the antique ones.

Hey I have one on linens already as well as on brooches which are great for that. Jewelry is a great one for not much space :D If you see the pinned comment at the top to the playlist you'll see the one with scarves/hankies as well as brooches. I'll add belts and belt buckles to my list!

Great video - you helped me learn something about Royal Albert. This week, I was going through a box of teacups I don't even remember being mine and pulled out a Royal Albert Minuet teapot with two cups, saucers, creamer and sugar. The lowest I could find for that teapot was like 400 dollars! No solds yet but I agree it is crazy money. But 5k is mind boggling.

Everything is incredibly beautiful, and the craftsmanship is captivating! I'm not surprised what these cups and saucers sold for. KPM, Coalport ,Wooster, Wedgewood, Meissen, Sevres porcelain, etc, are all well known for very exceptional quality. Especially pieces made by Sevres that keeps its value like a Rolls Royce. I own some Herend figurines of an owl, parakeet, and elephant in the blue fishnet pattern. I love Herend a lot!!

The 3 piece sets are for tea and whatever you are eating with it, be it sweet or savory. It's probably not part of place setting. My mother collected teacups, many which have all been handed out to the great-grandchildren. I am amazed at the prices shown here as there were some of these types in her collection!!!! I think I have some more in a trunk somewhere.

Oh, how much I wish I would have known the value of these teacups a yr ago!! I started a teacup collection as a little girl & over the yrs amassed quite a collection. I’m a “collector by nature” I like to say so by my 20’s, I’d moved on. But fam members gave me teacups for yrs. A yr ago, I moved from a 5,000 sq ft home to a 1200 sq ft. Quite the dilemma for a collector. Needless to say, I didn’t look up everything I forced myself to put in the donation piles. (38 truck loads over 5 months) I had 3 of the teacups in this video! The Roy Alb $239, Ansley Orchard $275 & Shelley Oleander $395. Not sure if I feel more nauseated or excited to start selling….
