Thank You For Posting this fight Ive been looking for this fight everywhere now I can see it here. This was a great fight in the best year to see great fights 1982.
its hard to believe that when people mention the greatest boxing fights of all time they do not mention Limon-Chacon 4. This is boxing at its finest brutal art. There is a reason why Bobby Chacon was so loved because he gave everything he had and left it in the Boxing Ring. Go back to round 1 and hear the ovation that Chacon gets its beautiful!!. Thank you for the post
It is sad to see great fighters from the past struggling to survive. Rocky Lockridge is also homeless. I think Chacon and Limon were very evenly matched.
Maybe the best fight I ever saw. And, yes, 1982 was perhaps boxing's greatest year. There was an NFL players strike that year and they showed a lot of fights on network tv. Ah, the good old days.
I guess so,it was a great year;alot of classic fights!(of course the Mancini-Kim fight was a classic but a tragedy). This fight here was the best fight I have ever seen!
Clearly, 1982 was the greatest year in boxing history.. we had Benitez-Duran, Mancini-Frias, Arguello-Ganigan, Sanchez-Garcia, Holmes-Cooney, Sanchez-Nelson, Laporte-Miranda, Pedroza-Taylor, Pryor-Arguello I, Mancini-Kim (tragically), Gomez-Pintor and this brawl.. all savage classics that went down in boxing history. And you also had Hearns-Benitez which although not a savage fight was a HUGE bout at that time and then Dokes-Weaver 1 which was a great bout while it lasted but also very controversial.. all those matchups and fights made 1982 the greatest year in boxing history IMO.
bobby "school boy" chacon. great heart, and a great fighters, when fighters fought like roberto duran. I saw this fight and it was one of the best fights ever. back and forth and with seconds left bobby pulled it off.
These guys were the Gatti and Ward, Ali and Frazier of the 1980s...thank you Bobby in Heaven and gracias Bazooka si usted lee esto, for such great fights...por tan grandes peleas...
What elevates this fight to an even higher level is how, after all the ceaseless warring of round after grueling round, Chacon finally rocks and knocks Limon flat on his back just before the closing bell. What a perfect ending for Bobby. I am very surprised at the judges' scores, though. Assuming that you've got to score the 15th as a 10-8 round for Chacon, it means that not one of them had Chacon ahead heading into the final round! Two had Bobby behind, and the other one had it even!
I know for a fact this fight was the last of Bazooka's steam forever. It softened him up for Macho Camacho and he had nothing left for that match and lasted only 5 rounds. Chacon went on to beat Boza Edwards who was a Jr. Lightweight with the strength and body frame of a welterweight.
I'm wondering if this is the last WBC title fight that actually went 15 rounds; not scheduled for 15 but actually went 15 rounds. This fight was held around the time that the WBC mandated that its title fights would only be scheduled for 12. The beginning of an end of an era.
This was the last 15 rounder for WBC. WBC DID NOT CUT down the championship rounds bc of the Mancinini-Kim tragedy. That was the excuse WBC told everyone . The truth was Holmes-Cobb ran for more than an hour and Roone Arledge complained about the length. They had to pay local affiliates for the time it was over an hour. So Arledge went to Jose Sulaiman and told him to cut down the championship rounds to 12 rounds .
This was a fight when 2 boxers give it there all great fight no doubt not like these chicken shit boxers today much respect to them both schoolboy great fighter all heart 👊✌
@pnutbutrncrackers (Continuing on the previous comment ...) I think that is nonsense on the part of all three judges. What a robbery it would have been if he had lost or drew! I had Chacon in front 136-132 after 14. Round 15 was just the cherry on top, making it a final tally of 146-140 for me, in favor Bobby Chacon. I believe he took the last five rounds and finished like a beast. Final note: I didn't know of the (apparently) pitiful state of his life today, and it makes me sad.
best fight I have ever seen...PERIOD...
This was the best fight I ever saw,and it was on free tv on a saturday afternoon!

fuckin' hell. check out the coming attractions "next up: Gomez Pintor". All on network TV, man I was born to late.
WHAT A FIGHT! I had it 140-143 to Chacon, what an awesome fight though. Loved it.
I think he got it mixed up with Arguello-Pryor 1 which was fought the night before Mancini-Kim.
'82 was a great year for fight fans.

Poor Bobby...left his brain in these hard fights...
You're welcome
Good question. "Schoolboy Bobby" was the last great crowd-pleaser.
Arturo Gatti? Wilfredo Gomez? Felix Trinidad? Fernando Vargas? Those guys were all out warriors too....

Pacoima pride!! Chacon was a bad ass !!!
Awesome fight, but Chacon won by a good 4-5 points.

Richard Chacon Amen! I've never paid a nickel for a Mayweather fight. Or non-fight I should say.
Agree so much, well said. Old school boxing, where has it gone?
So sad...your words are very, very true. And they cut right to the bone. Damn, that's a f'king drag...

@ianandori
He can always go to AA.
