I've been in this hobby over 40 years there was no such thing as RTR back in the day you built everything which is actually a good thing if you need to work on your vehicle you know how it went together I built quite a few, Team Associated had really nice kits back then, and the reward was how nice they ran and knowing you put it together
Oh I’ve been telling everyone to support their local hobby shop purchasing from them some will even ship if you don’t want to be onsite. Alright stay safe everyone.
The RCNetwork thanks just finished it up today. Got some proline Mud terrain tires on SSD bead locks looks Amazing. For electronics I ran hobbywing Axe. What will you run in yours? Waiting to see Final reveal.
I'm glad to see a fresh ground up new truck from them, and not just another rehash of the aging older platform, I'm definitely interested to see if they are setting this up for a portal less version and what size tire combo will fit it
They've already mentioned the capability of a portal-less drivetrain - most 1.9" wheels will fit - the JLU body is ideal . for the 4.75" Nittos, so basically anything 1.9" will work. The stock wheels seem to be about 225SLW size
Personally I would like a review of everything working ie 2 speed and dig just so we can see how it works with a set up for people who cant afford the brushless set up . Over all tho thanks very informative 👍
This looks like it’s gonna be a great rig. I love how the motor is so forward and has a scale cover. I don’t think I would use the dig . Can’t wait to see the body paint and build. Thanks for posting 👍👍
Not sure if you guys cares but if you are bored like me atm then you can watch all the new series on InstaFlixxer. Have been streaming with my brother for the last months =)
Great video allot of great tips and knowledge. I own 3 scx10 iii, 2 jl and 1 gladiator. I love em all. I am working in the kit rite now and I used allot of your steps, thank you
Thanks for sharing, it is one of the best reviews I have seen. I had my doubts about buying this kit, but after seeing the details that you show in the video, I think it may be a new vehicle in my garage. Thank's
Laughed when you were talking about stuffing up Rich. I’m building the Tamiya Sand Scorcher and I’m tired, and same as you making mistakes. Getting towards the hard plastic stuff now, where it is gluing, painting etc. so I do have to stop for the night which is a good thing. As I look at the rear wheel and tyre on one side, the tread is facing the wrong way. And those suckers took forever to get the centre in the edge of the tyre without the five 10x2mm screws and matching nuts. Tomorrow’s job! Goodnight and thanks for the build review 👍🤓🇦🇺
They have taken the scx platform to a whole new level and takes time to come out with all the new tooling to make and design the parts. That has to cost a lot of time and money. Money they did not have in the past until the new ownership.
Brushed motors are famous for their low end torque and smooth start up, not much top end speed (depending on turns). Sensorless Brushless systems have torque and top end speed (depending on kv), but not a smooth start up - when you add a sensored brushless set up, you get all three worlds - smooth start up (being sensored), torque and top end speed (depending on kv)
Very professional review 👍👍👍 after seeing this build there’s no way I can do it with my arthritic hands, so I will wait for the RTR version👍 I hope they come out with white if not I’m sure they will sell the body down the road and I will paint it white, i want it to match my real life Jeep
Thanks buddy! It's not as bad as it looks - a power drive is the key (with a clutch) . I'm sure the RTR will be released soon - likely that Blue that the shops have and maybe a silver? Axial always releases the clear body set - but usually a few months after the main releases. It will be expensive though, as they have to include all of the parts in that second to last bag I hadn't opened
Depends on the look and how capable you want the rig. the Capra can do anything...but is a pain to gain access to the electronics. The scx10iii can be made into almost anything (body wise) and has a TON of options to make cool.
Probably not going to see this but do you know what thread count tap you should use for the shock mounts because I need to tap the rest of them after stripping a bolt
Hey Rich. Awesome video as always. I was wondering if you could do an update video on the MT410? How reliable it’s been? Any breakages? Was wanting to get my first kit and the MT410 definitely got my attention. Love your old videos on it.
Thanks David! The MT410 is a great truck - don't hesitate on purchasing. I've broken 2 body mounts and that's it on mine. I've done zero upgrades and very little maintenance. It's solid!
The Pre-Release started last Thursday - many that pre-ordered have are getting them today - click the link in my video description. They have them on Pre-Order still
Thank you for this review! I don't think this is the right truck for me.... it's TOO perfect, it's TOO nice! I would hate to ruin anything on it, and that would stop me from bashing the way I truly want to. Maybe I should take a second look at the cheaper RTR crawlers this spring, knowing how I feel about the much anticipated rig that is truly designed to be at the top of the game.
If we base what we know from the Capra - likely 2 months or so for the RTR - price will be pretty high though, as the Capra did include the dig, servo, etc
the transmission alone will be very labor intensive - I bet the RTR is going to be on the plus side of 500 easily, especially if they include the two speed and dig features...
Did you get the RTR? I just got mine. My first since my Associated RC10 nearly 40 years ago!! No way was I interested in building this one. It's an awesome rig and very capable with my biggest complaint being that the shocks leak and were pretty much flat right out of the box. They're pretty good feeling shocks with oil in them but the mod bug hit already a day after arrival and today, my Pro-line shocks will be here. I don't want to chase the known leaker issue. I'm running DIG and it's a great feature, IMO. The 2 speed is supposedly too close in ratio to be worth adding a servo. Maybe when I wear out the motor and replace the electronics package I'll give a try.
Not sure, I have the motor mounted - but likely have to turn the motor to the side for the wires. Just started ,messing with it last night while this video was uploading. The main issue is the sensor wire
Transmission looks freakin great. I hear they are working on the portal delete version of some sort and that’s the one thing I don’t like about the new truck.
Looks like a decent project I could get into. Q, I've heard you can fit a 550 motor in there with some trimming to the engine case, does it seem possible? I was thinking about the HW Axe 550 system. If so, will it be overkill to fit it with 2 speed?
I mounted a 540 motor last night...and there is room for a 550 (although I didn't test) . Everything will be tight, regardless because of the "motor" facade.
Great Video and it helped me a lot to see the kits quality, which looks great. I don't know if you answered that allready, but how long does it took you to build completely? Since I am looking for a kit a can spend some time on that would be very interesting for me. Keep up the great work and thanks for the video 👍
The chassis took about 4-5 hours, depending on your skill level and electronics choices. the body was another good 3+ hours, once again depending on the complexity of the paint job, etc. I never build in one sitting....usually over the course of a few days
Understandable I just kind of feel like everybody makes Jeep bodies. I feel like a good set of wheels would change the look of the whole truck so maybe I'd be more into it after that!
Your tires are on backwards. The tread is supposed to throw out debris, not bring it in. Crap,, never mind.. I thought the other end was the front. LOL My bad. BUT,, This post may serve others well, so I'll leave it here.
I didn't have to tap them, although Horizon Hobbies/Axial recommends this. The Panhard mount/driver side shock tower is also an issue is you run a decent servo....it will end up breaking
Come on Axial. It's a Jeep aka MOPAR . No one in their right mind in the one to one world would put an LS into a Jeep . Infact the engine this rig comes with is a GEN3 Hemi. That is the molded engine that this kit should have. If it was a bronco put a molded cyotee or 351 an if it's GM then put that garbage LS or small block Chevy into it.

Best UA-cam Rc Channel
Thanks Marco!! I would say that too, but people say I'm biased 😉
Good point on not using a power driver on the shock mounts. I wouldn't have thought of that. Thanks for the review!
Glad to help - it's a super stiffplastic for a reason, but brittle when driving a steel screw in it
Thanks for the several tips Rich. You definitely pointed out issues that others previously overlooked. Great job!
Cool, glad to help. I haven't watched anyone else's video except for Matt's first one. I like to keep and open mind and point out what I see
@@TheRCNetwork And you did just that. Nice!

Great build review video. I plan on getting one by the end of the year. Can't wait to see the body build.

thumps up, you were spot on with all the issues it costed me lots of time as well
Thanks buddy for watching! Glad to have helped
Im liking these alot! You may have just convinced me to get one. Think i would run mine with the single speed and no dig (with a good brushless setup)
I'm configured with the dig, and single speed, for now
Im thinking thats how im gonna run too no micro servos to fail build it bullet proof

The RCNetwork a very good rule Rich! I’d probably have to add in no scalpel and reamer worker 😳
Thanks Rich, can't wait to "dig" into mine once it arrives.
Exactly! Happy building!

Excellent in depth review! Very impressed with what Axial has done on the SCX10 III. Looking forward to getting mine tomorrow.

Can’t wait to see if my SCX10ii with dig will be equal to this . Looks wise I love this whole rig
It really is a great design - but like you said, how will it be against the ii

mine's on the way. i'm looking forward to building it. not much else to do right now since the creeping death is in our midst.

Hi Ronald! Glad to have you watching!
Great presentation!
Thanks for watching
Great video
Thanks buddy!
For best result use a M3 thread die to cut the thread in the hard plastic to prevent heat build up.
Good tip.....I was flying blind on this build, as it was so new at the time
Hopefully next we get the 6x6 with portals and 6 wheel steering
Everything's a possibility - but that's a lot to ask for....and a pretty big pricetag
Would you be able to see if 10.2 sliders, and if body mounting holes are in the same location.
I don;t have a 10.2 at the moment.....they might be....as the floor pieces look really similar
👍 thanks. Very detailed
Thanks for watching, Eric!
Great build as always! The material are Losi quality
Yeah, you can tell of the plastics. TLR had some influence
Can’t wait to see it finish. I love watching your build reviews
Thanks buddy!
Probably not going to see this but do you know what thread count tap you should use for the shock mounts because I need to tap the rest of them after stripping a bolt
I see every comment....and usually respond. It's a standard M3 screw.
Really good review 👍
Thanks dude!
So it’s all metal gears . No plastic gears any were . Even in the portal drive gears? And the over drive gears offered can they be used in the rear ?
Yes, they're all metal gears...except for the Spur gear
How are the shocks?! Do they leak bad!?
No leaving on these - they're much improved over older Axial shocks
I bought a Redcat Gen8. Did I make a bad decision?
Any RC is a good decision. Worse case, it's a stepping stone to your next RC!
The wheels are 1.9 and the offset ist?
Not sure, it's all plastic. Likely a 225 in SLW terms

I'm starting to agree with you! It's almost too perfect!

RTR will probably not have the 2 speed and dig all in one or it might. Hard to tell. Usually the kit supplies all the features.

Yeah, the wheels look a bit plastic-y for me. I'm a fan of the body mostly because I've never had a wrangler.
Understandable I just kind of feel like everybody makes Jeep bodies. I feel like a good set of wheels would change the look of the whole truck so maybe I'd be more into it after that!
This all new Axial SCX10lll or the Vanquish VS4-10 Ultra? 🤔 new to the scene
Vanquish is twice the price of have the money go vanquish.
Like TCN said - $369 vs about $1000 - and the same starting line for electronics, assembly and paint.
Rich in his head: *The thing is FCKN IMPOSSIBLE to screw in*
Rich speaking: You'll know what Im talking about XD
Exactly true! The front body mount (non JLU body mount) is a pain. There's 12mm CS screws and it takes forever to sink them and they creak like crazy
I can’t wait for the kit to come to the uk $500 babyee. Lol no, I’m not getting one at that price
Yeah, $369 here in the states. I'm sure the price will drop once distributors there get them
The RCNetwork not by much though
Your tires are on backwards. The tread is supposed to throw out debris, not bring it in. Crap,, never mind.. I thought the other end was the front. LOL My bad. BUT,, This post may serve others well, so I'll leave it here.
Like Dwight Schrute says: "False". The tires are not "directional - it doesn't matter which way you mount them.....they'll always be the same

There's a lot going on in this one....I wish there was a "not so bells and whistle" version. I can do with out the 2 speed, Dig and portals, TBH
@@TheRCNetwork that is why I'm using a SCX10 transmission with a Hertz dig on a SC X10 2 raw Builders kit

I didn't have to tap them, although Horizon Hobbies/Axial recommends this. The Panhard mount/driver side shock tower is also an issue is you run a decent servo....it will end up breaking
Just like the Capra, I won't be investing in a kit that requires a $50 servo to get missing parts...
That servo is 14 bucks...but yeah, I see your point. Would be nice of them to include the servo saver parts.
Yeah, like Revnine said, the servo is $14. But I'm with you, the servo saver items should all be in the kit regardless of which servo you use
Ok, at $14 that's very reasonable it's just the proprietary nature of not including it, thanx for the info guys!😁
