Builders beware, there are 5x11 bearings and 5x10 bearing in bag C, and they look very similar. Be very careful you separate them before you build, or you'll be tearing down the transmission to find where you used a 5x10 bearing in place of a 5x11. That sucks.
I like to pack those open bearings on the spool with grease to keep maintenance down. Love the video though! Giving me a good start on when i get the kit!!
I had to watch this AGAIN! 😉 I'm really hoping that Axial will sell those Portal Axles soon enough. THEN I want to try to piecemeal a UMG-10 together! 😉 Carmine ✈🚂🚙

Awesome video! These build series are the best good info. I would love to get this but just picked a SMT10 and the wife won’t let me get another truck for awhile. In the mean time I will just drool 🤤 all over my phone while watching these videos.
Can you install the dig feature to lock the front wheels instead of the rear to do burnouts super important question for me atleast would love your input or ideas. I know it defeats the purpose what it was intended for but i am a man of specific tase and when i saw that feature it almost immediately sold me.
After losing a c clip, I put the others together inside one of the parts bag. So when it go's flying off ...it's in that bag,not the other side of the room. Maybe this will help someone
So hey, just finished my build, love it, everything is great, but as you advised, I put the firmer shocks up front, the green ones, well the instructions call for the green ones in the rear. My backend is squishy as all heck, what gives?
With my hands it felt slightly catching but watching and listening to other people's scx10iii sounds really Geary! So I thought this was normal until going from reversing to farward the rear axel locked it wasn't the dig as that was turned off. Finally found videos of "axels clicking" and found shimming and it's so much quieter now and smoother. New problems! Have gone through 3 different micro servos and smashed the first plastic gears. Second and thirdly was spectrums own. 9g is to week for dig maybe a full size servo could be squeezed in??
Just got a kit for $180, just missing the gears and shafts for the axles. Excited to start my first builders kit and glad to see such a detailed video of the assembly! Do you have recommendations for where to get the gears and such for the axles?
I hate the red plastic differential cover. The 1st thing I would do is paint that thing black at least. It makes it look like a cheap toy. I don't know why they would do that.
I dont care for the dig setup however , id love to be able to choose from 4wd to 2wd , but it seems in order to do that you'd have to unfortunatly do a completly different trans .
What's the finish weight on the transmission minus the motor even though it doesn't matter which brushless motor it's all pretty close in weight. if you had to guess with the motor mounted, I can only imagine which company drops that transmission plus dig kit in metal ouch. Enjoyed watching the build trying not to watch to much just trying to think if the transmission with dig and portal's will allow me to drop the low down weight that I need to prevent that funky float i have at times. I would prefer to hold that weight in battery and center of the lows in the chassis.
Great video. My kit is arriving today and I can’t wait to start it. These videos are going to be very helpful. Where can I find the green slime and tools you used to assemble the shocks. Thanks
Still on the fence about this truck. Have 3 TRX4s, but this truck sure looks good. I have learned to install those pesky clips in plastic bags to contain any escape attempts. How do I get scale SBG decals for my trucks? Thanks
hello could you please inform me I have a scx10 III in rtr on which I would like to add the 2nd gear I add the moni servo what should i do with the gearbox as a modification thank you in advance good driving
Hi matt have just this second finished my first build and being a scx 10 iii had a few problems. My axels are hanging up I think I have found problem is the pinion in the axels moves in and out slightly and when in its to tight of a mesh and binds please sir any ideas would be appreciated. Also love the build you sir have just acquired a new subscriber!
Great Video! How are you liking the Dewalt Screwdriver? I just ordered one which should be here this Tuesday. Looks like it works great for my intended purpose.
Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse, but what kv motor did you go with? I have a Slate 2850 in my 10.2, was thinking lower in my 10.3 to take advantage of the 2 speed?
ok got a few questions, i have a 70mm castle motor will that fit, and the lhs here said that my 19t 48 pitch gear will work, am i going to break things trying to run this,
@@scalebuildersguild Actually, I figured it out. The two halves of the axle weren't going far enough into the differential gear, which was preventing me from getting the caps on the portals closed properly. But I figured out the issue and it's together now. I apologize for having bothered you with my comment!
Yeah in contrary to what is said here every single hole is too small. Without a electric tools this does not go together at all because every single hole is too small. Just get an RTR version, saves you a lot of headaches.
@@scalebuildersguild Ow if it was only the torque, i would be so happy. No literally every single hole is too small and has no thread. To get to the torque you need to get the screws in first which is jst simply impossible with power tools. It is honestly one of the WORST kits i have everexperienced.
I live vicariously through you till I can pick one up for myself!
I will be getting my kit in a couple of days. These are incredibly informative. Thank you.
Great intro to this new build!!! Now I want one!!!
Hey Matt, great insight on the future RTR version. I need to remove the two speed stopper in my RTR. Wish me luck.
Awesome Matt, fantastic close up, no messing video.... clean. Looking forward to the rest
Glad you enjoyed it
If I didn't already have 2 builds on the table I would seriously look at getting one of these.
Thanks for making it look easy Matt.

My advice Use dial calipers to figure out the diameter
I try not to make innuendos, but it's hard, so hard.... Looking forward to the next episode!
Everything looks super high quality in terms of plastics and gears.
Back showing my support!!!!! Me and my girl watched your 4.5 hour live stream last night and loved it !!!!!

Ok I see how it is setup after finding the right video. Maybe in the future we will see it setup with 2wd 4wd instead of dig.

I know it defeats the purpose what it was intended for but i am a man of specific tase and when i saw that feature it almost immediately sold me.
Line lock? Cool idea. If you can lock the front, then have the front go to neutral instead of 4wd, this could make a pretty sweet muscle car 8)
No, dig is only designed for the rear.
I see Capo like motor/trans mount there

Hey whats up my rc brother 👍🏻 can i please get a link to the tools you used to do your shocks and links?
Question about rc shocks. Why do we adjust shock damping by changing out the oil instead of changing the valving like in 1:1?
You can do both, depending on the shock setup. Assuming other pistons with different hole patterns are available.

Both are from Team Associated.

No problem!
Can I put the same overdrive ring and pinion from a scx10II?
Is possíble to have an intermediate position of the dig unit that alows the rear wheels to spin freely?
It is, but you'll need fine adjustment to make it work.
Still on the fence about this truck. Have 3 TRX4s, but this truck sure looks good.
I have learned to install those pesky clips in plastic bags to contain any escape attempts.
How do I get scale SBG decals for my trucks?

As soon as I have new ones in stock, I'll put it out there so people know.
Would the 1.7 transfer case be slower, or faster? Would it be unusable with the portals?
It’s taking the reduction that is in the portal and putting it in the t-case. I wouldn’t do it without a straight axle.
Drilling and screwing LOL!
hello could you please inform me I have a scx10 III in rtr on which I would like to add the 2nd gear I add the moni servo what should i do with the gearbox as a modification thank you in advance good driving
how big in size can the micro servos be? specially the one for the 2 speed?
So will this portal axle axial need a reverse rotation motor like the trx4? Will this also accept a 550 motor?
Regular motor, yes a 550 will fit with some mild possible trimming.

I didn't need to shim mine, they usually don't require it. Are you trying to spin the axles under power or just move them with your hands?
