  • Install honestly was very easy, its like changing any old car radio. Only part thats different is the mild fabrication on the dash. Next we need to change the stock speaker and maybe add 2 more 6inch speakers under the dash to add some mids and high.

run a wire to the battery for the clock.. Super Simple Also solder shouldn't come off with a tug of a stripper thats a cold solder joint probably from aluminum wire or not using flux or a dirty wire

The red and yellow need to be separate, one needs to be a constant 12+ and the other is the keyed 12+ that you have both hooked up to now
That way it will keep your settings and clock time after the key is turned off

Like i said before: The holes for 4-inch speakers are in the doors. Pretty easy to do. And the fuse panel is really close to the radio, so you have a ready place to run the constant hot from. Pioneer makes some nice 3-way, 4-inch speakers, shallow enough to mount in the doors.

what this guy said is right. Those two powers are going to the iginition. One of them needs to go to permanent power.

Your door has room for four inch. But you better get marine speakers with tighter magnetic. So you can roll your window down all the way.

After owning a couple kei trucks to be honest having a portable speaker is the best option

I'm looking at getting a radio for my hijet jumbo that's currently on a boat headed my way. did you happen to measure the depth of the opening for the radio? I'd like to get one of those flip up single din android head units so that I can run a speedometer app among others. thanks, Steve

Hey no i didn't measure it but i knew i couldn't get a head unit with a CD port those will be too long for the dash. So when you picking our your radio make sure its a media player like the one i put in. The stock radio if i has to guess is about 2-3 inches deep tho

If anyone else is doing this, they do make retro style radios with modern features. It would allow you to skip the Dremel.

@@Thephysiquemechanic search for vintage car radio with Bluetooth retro sound makes great ones that the dials can be moved on sliding bracket to fit. They are a pricy brand but there are cheaper brand options with the same idea.

Electrical engineer here. 2:30 - That's some of the sorriest soldering I've seen. Actually, in vehicles which are subject to vibration, a good quality crimp connection is much more reliable. Solder wicks into stranded wire, essentially making it solid wire at that point. The stress from vibration is at this stress riser is born by one wire strand at a time, each fatiguing and breaking. Heat shrink over a soldered connection can help reduce strain from vibration, and a short piece of heat shrink inside a longer piece can further reduce the potential for wire breakage, but quality (Panduit, 3M, Amp, etc) crimp connectors and quality crimping tools will be faster, easier, neater and more reliable. 3:15 - Electrical tape over a twisted wire connection is planning to fail. This makes me a sad panda.
There is an accessory power connection (on with the ignition) as well as an always on power connection. You need to connect both for the stereo to work properly. If you have trouble finding an always on 12V power source, you can run one from the battery or the big wire on the starter, but there is an always on power source at the ignition.
I was looking at a few mech-less (no CD) Pioneer double DIN stereos at Amazon because my Hijet has a single DIN Japanese radio on top of a single DIN storage cubby and I'd like a nice big display for a backup camera. I think I've settled on the ATOTO A6-PF 7 inch Android double DIN car stereo (B09PD2NQB4 at Amazon). I'll aim the forward DVR camera on the dash at the driver's window to record cop cam, and I'll get a simple two channel DVR with GPS speed for front and rear facing DVR. I'm not an audiophile but I'm thinking of four 6.5" marine speakers (B004BQWFHK) in the corners of the cab roof. I don't care for door speakers and the ceiling installation should be easier.
I'll probably install the stereo when I'm painting the inside of the cab with Monstaliner. It's apparently not too difficult to remove the Hijet dash, and that should result in a much nicer job of painting and stereo installation.
