My father was a carpenter by trade and always had a project going - he built us all dressers my mom a chest, fish tanks, a bigger version of a feeder for cattle - it was always something. I was his helper - enjoyed watching this video brought back good memories of time spent with my Dad. Thx for sharing
I love that bird feeder. My husband loves to watch the birds from his bedroom. He has Parkinson's so can't get out much now. I like the way you rounded the edges. It really finishes off the design. I am not able to use my tools any more or I would make him one. (I am73 and he is 78). Thank you for the enjoyment in watching you create these lovely things.
Kind of copied this yesterday with some leftover cedar t/g.Instead of planking the roof I am going to use cut down cedar shingles. Chickadees and the Junkos are going to love it. My grandma had one similar, rougher, that Gpa built. It reminds me of sitting with her in the A.M drinking coffee and watching the birds in the winter.
What a nice gift for your Dad. Bet they will enjoy that. We have three channels here we like, Campfire TV, Bird Feeder TV and Deer in the Yard TV. Oh yea and whats baking in the oven TV.😊😊 Take care, Al
Doug, I enjoyed watching this video. It's something I think I could try. I have always enjoyed feeding and watching the birds. Since we have moved our home, I need to get some more feeders. I also enjoy your wood carving and outdoor videos. Keep it up and thanks
My Father built bird houses and sold them at stores, he also made toy cars trains and semi trucks. My brother made them too. This made me miss my dad! Dad would make a tool to, make a tool! You probably understand this! He just asked certain stores to allow him to display and if sold they would get a percentage. So they did and started having orders❤️❤️❤️
“It’s time to start thinking about the birds.” You’re the best, Doug😊Also, I’m late 20s and I can sit and watch the bird feeder for hours. Depends on your frame of mind 😊
Doug when everyone else is complaining about the bitter cold seasons and staying inside and laying on the couch ...you are active working on a building project and staying happy. Inspires me to stay active man ! I have a soft spot for cardinals btw. :)
Hello Doug ! Very very NICE !! The feathered friends will appreciate this so much. Great job, well done. Thank You for Sharing. 👍👍😊💖. Take Care & Stay Warm...
I noticed one of your little guys hanging on a tree in Joe's latest video on his hut build. Thanks again for great entertainment and ideas in your videos. Always look forward to them....Ross
Hi Doug. That was an excellant instructional video. I was able to make the same thing exactly. I added a few extras to mine. Cedar shaked the roof as I had some laying around, put a few perches around the outside and put a suet feeder inside as well. I like it. Waiting for your bird feeder TV video.
mine is made from an old dollhouse, yours is muuuuch better. i did put scrap copper on the roof, sprayed with vinegar salt water. gave it that Funky Old Patina:) rock on, Sir Doug.
very cool @Doug Outside you should do more videos like this once in a while. diy stuff for outdoors , bird feeders, bird houses, gardening stuff , decoratons for outside etc... thanks for sharing bud.
Nice build! I'm just learning to do things like this..a lot of these tools are still new to me. I'll likely try and make a smaller version. I hope you'll keep making these type of videos Doug!
Into your bird buffet build for just a few minutes Doug and already am liking the feeder, your style and presentation. Any sapsuckers? You know they like their suet. Consider placing or hanging a few suet blocks on the 'giant' feeder for an even greater attraction. Peace out.
This is the second time I’ve come back to watch your bird feeder build… thoroughly enjoy the quality of work and how stunning it is! Btw your Aussie is gorgeous, I have a mini named Tula and she looks very similar to yours only smaller in size and her white stripe is thinner in the center of her face leaving a raccoon effect! She’s in my photo. Love and live for my Aussies! You should build a playground for her… I’d watch!
Stellar jays are a big problem for me too. I am thinking that I may make this but use hardware cloth on the inside of the windows with small enough entance holes cut in that the blue jays can't get in. They really are bullies! Thanks for the great design!! I love it.
Thank you for an awesome tutorial amazing build. You gave me ideas on how and what techniques to use. The next build I will use pine as my other build. I just use plywood but I believe pine wood will last longer plus be more heavier to withstand the wind and rain.
Beautiful and relatively easy! Doug great job! Feel free to share more birdfeeder builds. Love it! Very relaxing watching all your work. PEACE BROTHER 🦉
Luv!!! Luv!!! The birdfeeder!!! What a good son to make dad !! I would request same and buy all wood and buy you birdseed for winter!! Im hooked!! On your channel!!!Thankyou again!!
Thank you for posting this video! I admired your feeder from previously seeing it on one of your bird videos. Now I want to show it to my brother-in-law, as he has a woodworking shop that he makes cool things in.
Great Doug! I like the screen and drain holes and the rounding over makes it look even better i will add those elements to mine. Your parents kitchen looked good from what i could see.
Awesome job Doug! Quickly and efficiently done. You have a great workshop there with all the right tools and the skill to use them all. What a great design and the birds love it! Thanks for sharing. Best wishes.
Most bright colors, however, can be used to attract many different birds, with certain bird species being more attracted to particular shades. Red and Pink: Hummingbirds. Orange: Orioles, hummingbirds. Yellow: Goldfinches, warblers, hummingbirds. Blue: Bluebirds, jays. Enjoy, add a fountain or Pond with a wash shelf, no more than 2 inches. Love the Birds
Fantastic job and great design. After seeing this build my thought was that it would look cool to see a swing sign that says "Ye Old Bird Seed Pub" (carved of course) in smaller letters, second line "We believe in pecking responsibly" Sorry Doug this is just my warped scene of humor. Great video
I have made a couple of birdhouses for clients, one with a nesting box at the tops so the roof was removable but they weren't as cool as this design. I like the use of paint cans as patterns for cuts, I have a bunch of old paint can lids in different sizes for exactly that job.
Nice job, Doug. I would love to have a big bird feeder for my yard. I enjoy watching the birds and I love to feed them in winter. I have a lot of blue jays here but also a lot of crows. When it comes to bullies I think the crows have it all over the jays LOL Keep up the good work Love from Nova Scotia
Hey Doug, somehow I found your channel, specifically this video on the giant bird feeder! I thought it was amazing and I had to try to build it! And I did! Slightly smaller but still big! I had to make it according to what wood I had in the garage but it came out pretty good for just “winging it!” I plan to make another with your actual dimensions so this first one was a test to see what not to do… it was a teacher for sure! But anyways great video and great channel! I’ve been watching your learn to carve tutorials also and I just bought a helvie 1 3/4 rough out knife. They just had a limited sale on items from an event in Utah that didn’t sell! Anyways, great content and awesome teaching and amazing items you build and create!
I absolutely love it. I am going to do this project with my sons over the holidays as we holiday through the month with xmas being summer here in Australia and the birds are all sizes in queensland thankyou for the inspiration to do this. cheers gratz
wow wow wow i am moving in 8 days time and finally have a home with a decent sized garden already asked hubby to make me one of these thank you so much for showing us how yo made it
I am very very new at working with wood I don’t even have the tools yet just basic stuff I would have liked to have seen more measurements because I just love this birdfeeder it’s awesome
Great job. The only improvements I would make would be to steepen the roofs to more effectively shed the snow, increase the overhang enough to keep out the weather and then cover the roofs with sheet metal or roofing material to increase longevity.
My father was a carpenter by trade and always had a project going - he built us all dressers my mom a chest, fish tanks, a bigger version of a feeder for cattle - it was always something. I was his helper - enjoyed watching this video brought back good memories of time spent with my Dad. Thx for sharing
you should have been a school teacher Doug as you have so much knowledge on so many things and im sure you would be a great influence on young people
Deep South New Zealand ....he is a home school teacher so to speak, in his spare time on You Tube I have learned more from Doug than I did in ‘school’
@@anitarussum4590 yeah me too lol, me and my wife watch all the time
I have spent months studying building aviaries and discovered a fantastic website at Aviary magic method (google it if you are interested)
Nice little project there.. smile and you're Dad's face said it all. Thanks for sharing..
I love that bird feeder. My husband loves to watch the birds from his bedroom. He has Parkinson's so can't get out much now. I like the way you rounded the edges. It really finishes off the design. Watching a Doug Outside video is a perfect way to start my Sunday morning. Thanks for sharing.
That top window would make a great spot for a bell shaped suet. I was looking for plans for a large feeder. That, my friend, is a large feeder 🙌🏻
Doug that was great, I can imagine you (and your dad) spending lots of time watching the birds at their 5 star restraunt.
Nice job Doug. Theirs something therapeutic about watching birds feeding in the snow
Thanks for letting us be in on you tinkering in the workshop! Great video!
Very thankful to start my week watching you build this beautiful bird feeder. Thanks Doug !

Best use of a nail gun ever...sure makes doing this solo easier. That is a lovely work of functional art.
What a nice gift for your Dad. Bet they will enjoy that. We have three channels here we like, Campfire TV, Bird Feeder TV and Deer in the Yard TV. Oh yea and whats baking in the oven TV.😊😊
Take care, Al
awesome Doug!! should put some wood shingles on it make her more rustic
Wow...that's a beauty! Fun to see how much your parents liked it. Now...I'm going to watch Birdfeeder Tv again...Yay!
Ooh I like that 3 teared bird house! You need to do more videos on this kinda stuff! I love it👍
Make that 4 teared!
Nice one.Doug.
Your dad and the birds will be thrilled.
Great build Doug!
Thanks for taking us along 😊

Can't wait for bird feeder tv! I miss my feeders, always enjoyed sitting and watching the different birds come and feed while having coffee!👍🏻👍🏻
As a wet coast birder I look forward to seeing the bird house in action. I enjoyed it last year and hope for another good showing this year.

well done Doug, very nice. Thanks for sharing
My dad owns a sawmill and gives me a lot of cedar so lots of bird houses have been made at my house. Enjoyed the video and be blessed
Great job . Only thing missing is a weather vane . Thanks for sharing . ATB . Ken 🇨🇦 .
Wonderful multifeeder Doug! You remind me of one of my industrial arts teachers many moons ago! I still use his teachings to this day! KUDOS

Thanks I’m going to try and make a smaller one.to go on a post. If I manage it the old bird will love me. Cheers John from North East England Uk
Lovely!! You are such a good teacher! That was a precious reaction from your parents. "And the Birdies will love you!" :) Peace and good fortune!
We now need a split screen version of Bird Feeder TV featuring both feeders. Good explanation on how to construct this deluxe bird feeder.
This is the second time I’ve come back to watch your bird feeder build… thoroughly enjoy the quality of work and how stunning it is! That’s a fine looking birdhouse Doug!!! Great build... 👍

Great birdhouse build Doug. Beautifully done.

You're the Bob Ross of woodworking! Really like the fly through openings all the way across. Guess it's time for a trip to the hardware store 👍
Luv!!! Luv!!! The birdfeeder!!! What a good son to make dad !! I would request same and buy all wood and buy you birdseed for winter!! Im hooked!! On your channel!!!Thankyou again!!
Kids, this is why algebra and geometry are important classes. Doug is a true master carpenter.
You are a joy....and so is it to watch you work. Love what you make!! 😊🙏 Your birdies are SO lucky - so is your mom and dad 😂
Thank you for posting this video! I admired your feeder from previously seeing it on one of your bird videos. Now I want to show it to my brother-in-law, as he has a woodworking shop that he makes cool things in.
Always good to feed the birds... Am glad I can still do it.. I see Hummingbirds also... and about 20+ other kinds of birds here.
Great Doug! I like the screen and drain holes and the rounding over makes it look even better i will add those elements to mine. Your parents kitchen looked good from what i could see.
I love the birds too Doug, I will be making a feeder myself! Maybe not as good as yours, but I will give it a try!
Nice very nice Doug.
The birds will love you this winter

Nice project! Got to feed nature's critters. My wife makes a special food for our year round bluebirds. 🐦🐦😎

Some of my best bird feeders have come from just "winging it". Great looking feeder!
