I built the original martin house and found it easier to cut the roof shingle detail on a wider board then rip it into strips. The bird feeder is a great simple project as well.
Mathew, first and foremost I love your vids. Starting my woodworking journey. I’ve noticed in a few vids your bits are falling out of your chuck. There’s a way to lock your chuck to prevent this from happening. First, lock it hand tight. Then, go slightly back until you hear and feel it click in. Then, go forward again until it clicks/locks in. That’s how you lock a chuck in. Especially with round shank bits.
Wow! Both bird houses turned out great. I will try to do the 2nd bird house. It’s more of a challenge for me, but I think I can do it. Thanks for this video.
Help end homelessness for the birds. How about a video making a bird bath? I made one of your kids picnic tables and cut out the middle and put in a shallow cake pan and filled it with water and the birds love it.
I love your videos! I want to get into woodworking, but have been afraid. Your encouragement and instructions are very helpful. Thank you. That bird house is awesome!
@MatthewPeechWoodworking my bad buddy honestly thinking about doing a video on your "plans" while a fan I bought and build 2 bought 4 and buddy those 4 star comments in etsy are hilarious.
You have no clue how much you affect the market. I've been selling picnic tables for years. And sold trellises off and on. Now, my market is flooded with people who follow you. And now everyone and their brother are making picnic tables and trellises. Oh, and cedar flower pots. Lol this is not a complaint BTW. Just stating facts. So I thought, we'll I'll start making bird feeders. And here you go! Lol oh and not only is everyone making the squirrel feeders and chicknic tables. But now, big box stores have come out with their own version. Found them in big lots and Walmart for $15. Not nearly as cute as your design. But still the same basic product. Now I watch you to get a heads up on what my market will be producing! And steer clear. I haven't seen obelisks though. And I hope I don't see arbor. I am still selling obelisks. Haven't seen those advertised. So I will stick with those. And begin offering arbor. But obelisks are not a quick build. And arbor are not really a small. But just thought you might like to know what's happening out here. I love your channel! And this comment is not a complaint. People are watching...and listening!
Wow. That is pretty crazy the influence one person could have. I would have never imagined it but I’m very thankful for all the support. Keep building and succeeding! Thank you for watching!
Hi, new to your channel. Like both of these projects. The feeder is a donation to a raffle table for an autism benefit. I rounded the edges on the ends to look more treelike, and added the shingle roof from the Marlin design. Thanks Mike A Plymouth, MA
Your projects are great. Not sure where your market is. I am having a hard time moving small things at 4 and 5 dollars is my area. Everyone loves the stuff, just not to buy anything?
Hey Matthew. Thanks a bunch for sharin’. To make a good birdhouse a perfect birdhouse, you gotta make it easy to clean. Otherwise, the bugs from this year’ll get the baby birds next year.
Been thinking about building a martins house and your video pops up today. Definitely wíll be starting this tomorrow. Happy Father's Day to You and all the Dads out there
Yea that would be a good video. But the best way for builds like this is to make them so they can be assembled by the customer if you're going to ship.
Love the bird feeder! I have a stack or should I say heap of pallet wood pieces that average 5 inches by 14 inches. I have a stack of 1x3x6 cedar picket fences as well. Probably won't sell, but I can see lots of folks' gifts in the future! Thank you Matthew - you're da'bomb :)
Love your videos. Unfortunately I live in a rented 2 bedroom condo. Moved from a 4 bedroom house.. I have power tools I can't use, but are there if I need them.
Really enjoy watching your videos Matt, i live in the UK so obviously a very small Country compared with the USA, i build things like you do but charge a fraction of what you can over there, for instants you showed a bird feeder at the beginning for $62.00 no one here would spend much more than £20.00 for that and with the price of timber over here it's really hard to make a profit. Hope this is a good insight for you. Keep up the great vids.
as usual, another good job. What I would like to see, is the maker place there finished project on etsy, messenger, or whatever, and follow them until they are sold, how much they got, how fast they sold, etc. And how many did they sell, this helps me out a lot, Thank you Matt.
Matthew, long time viewer. As always top quality videos, fast, informative , efficient no time waisted at all & top quality content ! ! Innovative ideas to create the look for each, the siding and shingles are excellent .. These are enjoyable , I'll build both of them! Thank you … hope you had a great Father’s Day weekend w your family Pat Foley , Foleyfinewoodworking ..
Love the videos Matt. I've noticed that you usually use an electric brad nailer but in this video you're using a pneumatic brad nailer. I have a pneumatic one. What are the pros and cons and which do you prefer?
electric - pro: no hose. con: expensive. air - pro: you have one already con: needing air compressor. at least the air compressor isn't a single function item (can run other tools, inflate items, clear/clean small areas, etc), whereas the battery brad nailer can only shoot brad nails.
It just depends on where I'm working in the shop or how small the parts are. To be honest I like the pneumatic much better for projects with a lot of parts. The head of the nailer is much smaller and you can pinpoint better. Plus the weight of the cordless is atleast twice that of the pneumatic... as well as the cost.
Hey Matthew! Awesome video sir! Now I got a question on something I saw in your shop! Over your miter saw you have a hood and wonder how that’s working or if you have some sort of dust collection on it. Just wondering if this serves you well as it seems something simple. The bird feeder and house I’m adding to my collection of favorites as I build something similar to test out this fall. Thanks for your videos and suggestions as your videos are appreciated by many who value your work!
Great looking bird house and feeder. Question? The bird house will require cleaning from time to time and your video did not address the maintenance issue. Another idea! How do you intend to keep the squirrels off the bird feeder? 😄😄
I really like all you make😊 the bird feeder i want to enlarge it for chicken feeder because it will keep their food dry and so much better than those metal ones i have
I real like the 2nd house. I’m throwing this out there because I would make this mistake. With the “siding”, make sure you know which end is the top and which end is the bottom. I would get it built just to realize my lines don’t matchup lol.
I was wondering what type of paint you used for the antiquing effect {black/white} on the birdhouse as well as the other color choices for the posts and the roof.
Post a photo and ask for some help on our discord page. Lots of good ideas come from the community there. Discord link is in the description of the video.
You could do the shingles on the table saw with an auxiliary fence that stops short of the blade I always set it about a 1/4 inch shy of the beginning of the insert, it'll keep the fence back away from the blade so you won't pinch it. Just add the extra width of the aux fence aka scrap wood attached to the fence
Someone probably already mentioned it. However on the mini Martin the length of the 5/8 corners is typed wrong. My bad for not using head but it is listed as 4" instead of 5 1/2.
Dude so that Martin house kinda, for some reason reminds me a tiny bit of the cabin from The Evil Dead. It's kinda got me inspired to build one that is really based on the movie setting but I can't think of how to really sell the Evil Dead aspect of it. Maybe a diorama 🤷♂️
All bird houses need vents though. A lot of decorative houses don't, then people wonder why the baby birds die. It's just a hot box with no vents, at least in the south anyway. Just want people to do some research before making houses.

The grooves that you put in the body of the house to look like siding? Can that be done on the compound miter saw also with the depth stop set ?

Aloha Mathew what types of wood are you using in the mini house that has white and black back and hard wood looking post and roof

Your voice sounds a lot like Billy Bob Thornton.
While everything else looks normal, what does your table saw table look golden? It can’t be lighting.
It probably is lighting, @aaronblackford981. Unless he paid for a 24k gold table saw. Lol 😂😅
Please leave the inside of the feeder unfinished so not sand it smooth . If is too smooth the bird will Not be able to grip it to get out.
