    I wish there were actual plans and explanations for those of us who aren't that experienced with carpentry. A voice over actually explaining what you're doing and why would be helpful. It's a really pretty birdhouse.

      +Kyle Patrick (fenderhead23) Thanks! That's the easiest way I found to clamp something like this, especially the roof. The rest can be done with band clamps, but not everyone has those.

    Tedious repetitive 60 degree cuts, done in a way that was enjoyable to watch. I love the design, simple and elegant. That will standout in the yard of the recipient that hangs it up. Especially love the clean out hatch. Great job. Thank you for the video. - Anne

    It is a shame that Mr. Rausch feels the necessity to be so protective of his design. There are two things to keep in mind when building the roof. One is the slope and the other is the overhang. For each piece of the roof, each angle is 60 degrees. The slope (Ruasch uses 5 degrees) you can modify. I used 10 degrees to give the roof more slope. The overhang is based on how large you want to make each piece of the roof. I used 1 1/2 in overhang. Don't be fooled by his slight of hand. It is best to make each section of the roof. After you make each piece, rotate your blade 5 or 10 degrees and then do each side of the roof piece. Fit them together, glue, paint and screw into the top.

      There are many factors in doing a pro job. One place I discovered which succeeds in merging these is the Aviary magic method (check it out on google) without a doubt the most incredible course that I've heard of. Check out this super website.

    • @rubybarnes6989
      @rubybarnes6989 8 років тому

      There are several suggestions for constructing an aviary:
      Allow enough time.
      take advantage of ready made boat outlines.
      (I discovered about these and more on Aviary magic method website )

    Hello Jason - Awesome looking bird house! I am having a hard time with the roof angles on the 6-sided bird house I have built. Can you please post the Mitre and pitch angles you used for your roof. Thanks much!
    Jim

    • @paulmeneaux9346
      @paulmeneaux9346 4 роки тому +3

      Jim,
      The easiest thing to do is make each "triangle" piece for your roof. Once you make those then rotate the blade of your saw (5 or 10 degrees) and run each piece. You will find it is much easier than he makes it appear. I used 10 degrees and was much happier with the pitch of the roof.

    About the roof: 2:49 should be about 61.2 to 61.5 degrees (definitly not 60 as you won't be able to glue this togehter) with 5 degrees in 2:54.
    I think it turned out ok on this video, but maybe the piece from 3:12 has other dimentions than the rest? Or am i missing something here?

    You showed me, but I need the blade angle for the roof. Can't see it on the video. Is it 5 degrees? Would be nice if you included the sizes of the six sides just to be sure. Looks like 4 inches and 30 degree blade angle? It would be helpful for a mid level wood worker.

    Good job! But is not a "complete bird house" - the roof needs to be water-prove (covered with plastic, metal sheet...). Then, will be a complete and quality lob! Thank you for posting your video! Very nice when a person does something beautiful, unusual, and creative! Personally, I will do the opening in a side of the house (it is more practical), but a little time consuming (who counts when create something nice and good for birds).
