As was pointed out in the comments (thank you!), the landscape and marine scape sets are from Caran d'Ache's Museum Aquarelle collection, and not the Luminance. I knew I'd seen them somewhere! My mistake, sorry. 🥴
Thank you for this review of this beautiful Set of Carand'ache Luminance portrait set. Greens are used for shadows and underlayers, so in each layer, you can get better results in terms of contrast, and they add fascinating colors to the faces! I love the variety of these pencils! Thanks for this review!
Finally! An Oxide of Chromium green! This is a perfect shade for green leaves. What I like about these colours are the sensible names. "Lemon Yellow" for example means a yellow with green undertones. Other companies name their colours meaningless and confusing names. Wonderful review, by the way! 😊😊
Gorgeous you sold me on this set I have the 76 set I hardly use because they are so expensive, this will be my next big purchase thank you for sharing your artwork.
It's hard to use them when they're so expensive! I find it easier to do so when they aren't all in the box side by side, lol. I hope you enjoy the new set when you get it! 💜
I have heard a lot of good things about these, .. i only wish they were more affordable.. the price is just not in my price range and thats ashame. I smell my art supplies too.. your not alone there lol.. its okay, its normal.. my kind of normal lol Thanks for the review, and giving me a glimpse at these beautiful pencils Becky.. x
I think they released 24 new colours because they already have 76 colours in their existing range. And this round of 24 would make it a total of 100 in the entire set now. Just saying 😊
Becky Tregear Art - I agree, it would be nice. By the way, I meant to tell you I also draw animals with colour pencils, if you would like to see? 😊 instagram.com/blakecandesign
I’d love to get my hands on these but I’m not sure I need many more blues or oranges as tempting as that box may be.. I have the polychromos set already as well. But I’d love to get some of those flesh tones open stock😭😍 thanks for the video I’m freaking out still that they’ve released more colors
Becky Tregear Art I’m in the US and usually buy open stock from blick, but it seems they don’t have this set yet! Probably a good thing - I should wait and justify it as a Christmas gift to myself or something😂😂
See I love the woodless blenders they’re like gold bars lol that’s why I okrdered 4 sets if the pencils and woodless blenders happy Christmas in July to me lol I’m bummin I cancelled thw Peru le e green
I got 11 scratchy weird, hard sand-paper like pencils out of my 76 luminance set... so yes i think its something that happens with this brand...i ended up returning the set.... i did get the basic 20 set tho (before i got the 76 set) and they were all fine....so weird.
Can I ask when you got your pencils? I've only recently heard about these issues and I wonder if caran d'ache is having issues keeping up with the large volume, now that these pencils have gotten so popular. I got my pencils years ago (2016 I think) and they were all fine.
@@RamoArt I got mine fall/winter 2018...Ive been hearing around that its been common for some of the browns to have a scratchy consistency....I have several different colors with a weird scratchy lead not just browns...Idk whats up with them...Some of the pencils in the set were great and others horrible....
Sadly it's a common problem still not solved. I had 4 of those in my set of 20 and decided to stay away from this brand. For this price point it was really disappointing. I use Derwent Lightfast now and really enjoy them. :)
@@yurinaka99 Now I'm conflicted whether to get the new colors or not :/ I really enjoy my Luminance pencils and would like to complete the set but they are too expensive to have such horrible quality issues.
As I have 6 of these pencils I watched this video to see how you blended/mixed them... which is why I was surprised you didn't create a 'dark' with your indanthrene blue and a red pencil, or the indanthrene with the phthalocyanine green... I am only interested in watercolours so when I bought my Luminance pencils the first thing I did was blend them to see what colour mixes I could get out of them, however I have no idea if that is how these coloured pencils are meant to be used seeing as there are sooo many colours...
You could definitely do those mixes, I'm sure! I was massively tired when I did this so my brain wasn't switched on and I just used the more obvious colours, lol.😂 When I get extra time I might do some experimentation to see what other colour combos I can come up with. Pencils don't tend to mix as easily as paints, but these ones do layer on top of each other pretty well.
So I've been working with my portrait set and decided to use the Butternut\Light Flesh 10% 542 and it seems super waxy to me or is it just me. I'm not big on using it for skin tones because I work with mostly night time scenes but I decided a well lit piece and I can't seem to get this pencil OR dark flesh to work right.
That's annoying! I don't know that I've had any issues with the flesh colours, but my Indian Yellow is very scratchy and annoying to use. Bad batch maybe? Might be worth writing to Caran d'Ache letting them know your concerns (add pictures as well), and maybe they will respond to your feedback. Worth a try!
@@BeckyTregear Good news! Caran D'ache support contacted me and actually sent me out a whole new portrait set and a empty 100 pencil box to store all my pencils in. I'm also going to send out your Mijello paints this week, I'll give you the tracking in your email when I send it.
@@DigitalViscosity Wow, that's amazing news, I'm so glad you're getting a whole new set! And an empty 100 box...that's awesome! Caran d'Ache really went all out there. 💜 And thank you for the update! 😊
My 40 set box arrived today. Sold by amazon.de but the lettertype is different from my old ones and the letters are white instead of shiny silver? Did I get fakes?
They probably just updated the packaging as they tend to do every few years. You could easily check on the Caran Dache website. See if their 40 set looks like yours, or you could email the company. Customer service has been wonderful, in my limited experience. Sorry I can't be more help. I actually just ordered the 76 set, so I'll let you know if mine is like yours as soon as I open it!
Just started to follow you , can you please explain and show that glove thing you have and put a link to it thank you , i a,m assuming its so you dont smudge your work but if its for medical reasons I apologise xx
It's an artist/smudge glove and they're easy to find on places like Amazon. They're originally used for digital art so you can rest your hand on a touch screen and not have it move around everywhere. Funnily enough I have a video coming out this weekend which features one and will have links. 😆
Hi there! I bought these at The Art Shop in Bayswater, VIC. Their website is linked in the description, underneath the first main paragraph. I think they open again either today or Monday next week 😊
Oh no, it sounds like you have defective pencils, as my two blues work nicely and are smooth without being dry. I hope you are able to get new ones which work better! They're both pretty blues as well. Thank you, I appreciate your comment. 😊

Just so you know, depending on skin tone, you can use the green as an under layer. I know they do that in oil painting.

Thank you! It''s an excellent addition to their greens as they were lacking in that area a bit.
Your work is beautiful
Congratulations
You can mix a black with some dark browns and blues. Green shades are not only for the eyes, but for the skin, too.

They are very expensive, there's no denying it! I guess that's why I'm usually broke because it all gets spent on luxury pencils 😂
They do a set of 12, I bought them for myself for Christmas, oh Becky wish they made new pencil perfume I would buy it by the box lol
How fun to try a new set of colored pencils! I was impressed that you did this after the really intense Disneyland painting. Nice!
I don't make it easy on myself sometimes! I'm sure doing all 31 days of watercolour paintings must have been really tough too.
I think they released 24 new colours because they already have 76 colours in their existing range. And this round of 24 would make it a total of 100 in the entire set now. Just saying 😊

Congratz with the new pencils. Aren't the landscape and the ocean boxes the museum aquarelle sets?
Ohhh maybe that's what I'm thinking of! I will edit that in the comments. Haha! 🤣 Thanks for pointing that out. ♥️

Is their blending pencil any good? As compared to say the prismacolor colorless blender?
