I cannot wait to get my hand on these new colors! You said the main target group will be artists. But before the coloring community found out about these pencils and everyone had to get them there were barely ever any colors sold out online, not many art stores carried them and even among professional artists they were relatively unknown. So I think the coloring community played a bigger role in us getting these new colors than you might think. Now they only need to expand the Museum Aquarelle and maybe the Neocolor ranges!
The sage green is to die for but in practice I don't use it as often, maybe because it's so new it's difficult to integrate it with the rest of their pencils. Still love it though. As for the pink white, it simply replaced their true white in compositions having any kind of red hue, no discussion. It's THAT good. It's the color I never knew I needed. I was disappointed with the indian yellow at first, however, when I began to used them, I started reaching for it more and more to give that textured look. Judging by the length, it's the second one after the white that I used the most out of the new set, what a pleasant surprise. If it's done on purpose, it's a revolution in the coloring world! The strong colors are so neon they risk starting a new era in coloring. When they release new colors, they do masterpieces. It's nothing that didn't exist before in Prismacolor and japanese pencils but they did it with a level of quality unseen, so much that they left them all in the dust. Still waiting for a baby pink (like their aquarellable pink 081) and a lilac mauve, like the flower :) it's so strange they don't have that in their whole collection, probably it's about the pigment sourcing. I got mines from Schleiper in Belgium, check out their website, maybe they ship outside the country too. Price is about 3-4 euros per pencil open stock. www.schleiper.com/eshopexpress/series/6798-caran-d-ache-luminance-crayon-de-couleur?category_id=116&lang=en
Thank you for this review and the shopping link! A year and some later and the discount still applies! Also, because of your link we are able to find the full set of 20 + 4 new colours in one shopping. Can not find anything else online that offers this! Thank you so much.
Dear Claire, your Color Family Charts for Polychromos and Prismacolor have been major game changers for me and I wanted to ask if maybe you will be doing those for the Derwent Lightfast and Caran Dache Luminance as well since both now have a whopping 100 colors? I tried to use your method on my Neocolor 2 and it took me HOURS so please don't think I am demanding anything here. It would be so cool, though!
The Luminance colours are absolutely beautiful. One day I hope to own some, but can't quite justify the cost at this time. Enjoy them :) Also I'm glad to see someone compliment the cardboard box they come in. Usually I see people complain when their pencils come in a box, but I think boxes are far better for the pencils, absorb shock better than tins do.
@@moryemme7254 Actually it's a bit more complicated. The "jeans" part comes from Gênes, the French word for Genoa. The genoese manufactured a cloth to use in ship sails and work clothing which was dyed with the indigo being brought in to Italy, or at that time the Republic of Genoa, by genoese merchant ships. We're talking 1500s. The french in Nîmes tried to replicate this fabric, but instead developed the twill fabric we know today as jeans. If you ever have an opportunity to come to Genoa, visit the Diocesan Museum to see the religious canvases painted with indigo on the original jeans fabric. We call them Blu di Genova.
thank you for the video:) i understand why Indian yellow has an uneven look. the pigment it is made of is PY150. in watercolor it is also with strikes of golden brown. i wonder haw it reacts to a blender, if it makes it smooth and versitile.
I just came on youtube looking for reviews on this, I'm so happy you did a video on this!! I ordered the 76 set 2 weeks ago so this couldn't be better timing, am definitely picking up the new 24 set . I have a feeling they will release a 100 full color set at one point. They are definitely the best for portraiture but you can do so much more with them as well, I'm beyond excited to finally get them.
These are actual pigment names 🤓 and you will see these in watercolor and oil paints! Thank you for this video, I am not into portraits, but looking into buying these as individual pencils and this has helped me make a decision
With shipping total in USD was $85.99 Oh I’m too excited!!! Pounds was $54.99 and $10 shipping. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU Claire for making this video. You made my day. I certainly needed a pick me up bad with all the stuff going on in the world right now right? Have a lovely day! 💖🌼💖🌻💖

WHAT!! My gosh I wasn’t aware of this. I haven’t seen the artist community talking about this yet, the colorist community is on top of this! Thank you for making this video. I’ve got the 76 set already and now I need to get my hands on those skin tones!

When my new luminance arrives I'll see if my Indian yellow is speckled and let you know either way. Your girl is amazing, the hair is extra super amazing! You just get better and better ❤🎨👩🎨🎨❤
For now all I can do is look at these. Was supposed to get mine today but got a notice mail was arriving late. Perhaps tomorrow. Ugh. I don’t like waiting. LOL I bought these the day I saw this video.
You are not the only one that has had issues with the Indian yellow! Great review. These are on my list but I went for the Derwent Lightfast 2nd set before these. Also don’t forget at least here in America the mail is way behind.
Clair, My indian yellow is also the same as you mentioned. By any chance, have you asked the company about the colour? That's the only pencil doesn't feel quite right to me out of its full set.
thank you so much for such a wonderful overview and review of the new colours. Your colouring tutorial using them is absolutely stunning too- thank you so much Claire. May i ask, have you decided/ or determined what order the colour chart will be now that there are these 24 new colours? I know you just did so much work creating a complete/ updated chart for the black widows and was wondering if you had or will be doing it for this set too? I was a bit upset, and thought mine was sort of a "defective" one, but maybe all the Indian Yellow pencils are like this then... I also went through the same with my raw umber and a couple other colors in between the 76 set

They opened a brand new Caran d’Ache boutique in my city weeks ago (Lausanne) and I haven’t been there it yet, perfect excuse 😁
I got the 76 set this week for an amazing deal from CASS ARTS...but have these ordered from Cult Pens...(they couldn’t come anywhere near CA for full set price wise but they are still my fave place to shop)...ty for this review..🥰
Enjoyed the review! I treated myself to the set of 76 during the lockdown. I heard that Black Widow is going to come out with a new set. Do u know anything about that?
Thank you Claire, always excellent reviews! Mine should be here soon, do the new colors seem a tad creamier, softer, somethings looks different, maybe just the gorgeous colors, lol. Thanks again!
I love the colors you used on the illustration. Is there anyone you suggest that I could learn how to use the greens, blues etc.? Although, we could learn together(:
Thank you Claire! Put my order in with Cult Pens. Your coloring was just beautiful. That hair color! 😍 Love the skin tone as well. Not good to hear about the scratchy yellow. 😣 My set of 76 has a scratchy burnt sienna 10% and I use it almost every time I do skin. Have to use it so carefully and at the weirdest angle. 🤣
Hey Claire I have a question. If you can afford only one choice in the next six months, a complete set Holbein 150 or all the Luminance pencils (76+20+ 4 open stock), what would you do? The price is almost the same for the full sets. I love the few that I tried in both brands but I know you have all of them so I thought I would ask.
Keni vrataric I had ordered. Thanks. However. I saw that there’s free shipping on orders of at least 70 lbs so I hopefully can go that route and get more product and free shipping.
For all those that worry about Indian Yellow if i may!First of all please forgive my english....so....every now and then you will run into some pencil from the Luminance that does exactly that.......its very very scratchy and hard but its not always the same color......what i mean with this is that i have had Payne's Grey - Dark Sap Green - Sepia 10% and 50% and many other colours from time to time that are like that .....and what happens is that some leads dry more than others when they are manufactured so they are harder that they need to be.......which again creates these weird dots you're seeing.......it's not always brown.....it's the pigment but dryer for example if you see a Payne's Grey that's scratchy the dots are black......and so on!Cassel Earth i don't use at all only the Sepia but the only one i had from the 76 set was not scratchy just very very translucent.....awful colour!.....great video Claire!!
Thank you for your review Claire, I just checked the cultpen website and it says pre order and due in mid July? Did you get yours from them? I can’t get these anywhere else either.
I just purchased the 76 set and also noticed a couple of the pencils have that scratchy feel when you color. Do u have that problem with yours? I wonder if it is a defect...
Just a note to Australians. Apparently when I ordered a book from Anthem Publishing- the Momo girl 40 pics people - I got an email stating Australia will not accept deliveries from overseas which makes no sense to me and they could not tell me when Australia would allow deliveries again. I've emailed Cult Pens to see if I'd have that problem with these pencils before I order them as I definitely want to add them to my full set. They are a pre order but I see people already have them so it's a bit confusing. Great video Claire as always 🙏🥰🌹
@@MyColourfulCountryLife Hi there! I was just about to post the same thing as I got a reply from Cult Pens. They state that they will post to Australia but also state that they cannot guarantee Australia Post will actually deliver them. Work that one out🙄. But it is the second time I've had that information from a UK company so it's a problem here. Like you I had already ordered from The Art Shop. Price a little lower and a guarantee that we'd get our pencils. Thanks for your help though. I do buy from The Art Shop often but Cult Pens I found were sometimes cheaper with great service. I also wanted to let Aussies know as we don't get info about where to get supplies here via UA-cam videos and some people may have wanted to buy from Cult so I wanted them to be aware of the issues none of which are UK problems. Have fun once the pencils arrive👍🌹
There actually is, it's called "Schwiitzerdütsch", and it's even used on the news and on television. It's a variety of German, but that doesn't mean any German speaking person will understand it. ;) It took me quite a while to get fluent at it.
HerculePoirot Danke vill mol für die überus interessanti Abhandlig über mini Muetersproch. ;) I am aware, I am a native speaker AND a linguist. However, there is no such language as „Swiss“ (which would by the way suggest it was spoken all over Switzerland ... which it is not ... for obvious reasons). It’s Swiss German and that’s it. As you have wonderfully described, Swiss German is a variety of German (although, of course, some linguists like to argue the point). :)
@@wanda7554 Fair enough.
Odd statement. Do you know you’re not the gatekeeper for Luminance pencils? They are for anyone who can afford them and want to color whatever they want.

The names are related to the pigments. Quinacridone, anthraquinone, and phthlaocyanine (usually shortened to phthalo) colors are common in paints.

Wow, I didn't realise! I would love more colours in those ranges 😍
Great review Claire. I have those tiny flex of brown in my Indian yellow too. So it’s not just your pencil. X
Gorgeous coloring demo. It reminds me of Anne of Avonlea. A favorite. Her skin & hair is so fabulous.

I really don’t understand why they didn’t make it a 24 set, the four loose pencils seems stupid.
Because they would have had to create a completely new set of packaging as they don't have a 24 box (as I understand it).
So You have to spend another $20 for 4 pencils
Probably, if they included them the set would cost $30 more dollars and even fewer people would be able to justify that price to themselves or S.O..

Better late than never xx I just posted a new video a couple of days ago ❤️
What is your favourite colored pencils
Prismacolor closely followed by Luminance
Great review hun! Fay-lo I believe its pronounced xx
Thank you for your review Claire, I just checked the cultpen website and it says pre order and due in mid July? Did you get yours from them? I can’t get these anywhere else either.
Yes they're sending out orders now 😊
I just purchased the 76 set and also noticed a couple of the pencils have that scratchy feel when you color. Do u have that problem with yours? I wonder if it is a defect...
The only other Luminance I have problems with is Cassel Earth x
Danigirl 72 yes Castel Earth for me too.
(new) Colours not included are: Natural Russet, Dark Flesh 5%, Dark Flesh, and Dark Phtalocyanine Green
I’m in Australia and I ordered mine through ‘the art shop’ in Melbourne
There is no Swiss language, their languages are French, German and Italian.
I know, I'm an idiot
@Colour with Claire 😆
There is no such language as “Swiss”. :)
Oh dear 🤦🏻♀️
There actually is, it's called "Schwiitzerdütsch", and it's even used on the news and on television. It's a variety of German, but that doesn't mean any German speaking person will understand it. ;) It took me quite a while to get fluent at it.
HerculePoirot Danke vill mol für die überus interessanti Abhandlig über mini Muetersproch. ;)
I am aware, I am a native speaker AND a linguist.
I do not like that you have to buy 4 open stock. I would have expected better from Caran d’ache
These pencils are only for professional drawings, no for basic coloring😏🤔😠
Wrong
Odd statement. Do you know you’re not the gatekeeper for Luminance pencils? They are for anyone who can afford them and want to color whatever they want.
