Pat and Ian: your personal emphasis on integrity is laudable and does not go unnoticed. I have experienced similar issues in my own professional life and I can agree that it is definitely the path less traveled and most people want to look the other way, because it is not easy and the pushback can be difficult to deal with, and has the potential to derail your own success. Being able to know you are ultimately trying to keep people from harm and also put your head on the pillow at night and know that you have no ulterior motives is its own reward, regardless of the reaction. Much respect.

Gamester was defending the Retro VGS even after the second fake prototype with the DVR capture card, saying "everyone fucks up sometime". It's honestly disgusting. I had to unsub from him because of it. Pat and Ian, thank you for actually caring about gamers and the community and being open minded and honest.
Mike Kennedy is a coward. I can't believe he hasn't reached out to his developers after this PR disaster.

I'm sorry, but Gamester's apology was as hallow as a pumpkin. He kinda apologized, then continued to defend Mike Kennedy, and then continued to bash gamers (and even Pat) for being passionate about games because ... there's ISIS and kids in Africa starving? The guy got caught, and he got defensive about it. He was trying to ride the money trail, and when it turned to a shit trail, he didn't like it.

I don't normally comment on youtube videos, there's enough here to last a lifetime. But I wanted to say, after seeing your video, then Gamester81's video, I've been waiting for a response from you, Pat. I didn't make any judgements, or jump to any conclusions. I've been watching you long enough, and Gamester long enough, to know you're both really cool people, and deserve the benefit of the doubt. So thank you very much for clearing the air on this. I'd really hate for you two to have bad blood, especially caused by this coleco abomination.
Pat never mentioned anyone by name. Only the guilty parties were feeling the heat. If you didn't feel guilty, you shouldn't have made any "in defense of" videos. AlphaOmegaSin should have kept his nose out of the mix as well. I have always been on the fence about how valid I felt his opinions were, and I lost all respect for him after his faux outrage. The thing that was so lame in Gamester81's video was his defense that no actual money changed hands. The ONLY reason that no money changed hands was because of Pat, Ian and the Atari Age forums looking out for everyone. If that Kickstarter went live, you can be the farm that Mike would have cashed those checks. The fraud was kept up with the intent to deceive people into parting with their hard earned cash to fund this elegant piece of vaporware. That was the criticism.

The whole thing was a complete disaster. It's unfortunate business weasels like Kennedy exist and can cause potential bad blood between friends. That being said I think the only one who looks foolish in all of this is AlphaOmegaSin, Gamester is a big boy, he can defend himself. Perhaps Keeping out of other people's affairs is the better choice.
John is a good guy, and I am glad you guys worked things out Pat. I know this is an old video, but I am just now seeing it.
You see how all of this could have been avoided if Gamester81 would have spoke with Pat instead posting the video? He would have avoided all of this. Glad Pat and John spoke about it because we don't need two good friends ruined over a reaction to the Coleco debacle.

+A_Man_Named_Jayne In fairness to Gamester. After Pat's video came out, followers spammed his name in the comments section. At that point, nobody was demanding Pat to do things. From what I've seen, Pat checks those comments. Pat could have simply responded to one of those spams saying he wasn't talking about Gamester. That also would have helped to avoid all of this from going down. Either way, it's a lesson learned and we can go forward.
Well at least we can all look forward to Mike Kennedy's next Jaguar shell project later this year.

The worst part about this is mike swindled the community, sure. That's dirty. But to think he did it to a friend, being John, is so sad. It really is. The people worked up about what mike didnt get hurt as much as John did. That was his friend. Just a really sad situation. Glad you guys worked it out though. I'm sure the hate he had been receiving and feeling like you were calling him out plus what mike did, making that video was a heat of the moment thing. A lot of emotions. The main thing is that he and you are good to go.
It's not the least bit surprising to me that John would have already been in a defensive mindset considering what he'd been through, so it's also not surprising that he reacted the way he did to your video. I suspect I would have reacted the same way. The funny thing is that both sides are essentially right, it's just that the whole situation was making people angry from every possible angle, and so sparks flew. Ian's comment about "cooler heads prevailing" is 100% correct. But it's such a relief that y'all were able to clear the air.
Also, it's worth noting that there's a big difference between being "fair" and being "neutral". Despite you guys taking a hard stand against the RVGS/Chameleon and being at the forefront of its skeptics and critics, I felt you were still extremely fair about the whole thing. After all, it's not as though your position was ideological; I'm sure you would have changed your position had Mike Kennedy et al actually given you a reason to. To the contrary, they had every opportunity to prove the critics wrong, and they failed spectacularly at every turn, and then furthermore doubled-down on their dishonesty. Getting torn a new asshole isn't "unfair" if you've been fucking with people, and Kennedy got exactly what he deserved. It's a sad day for retro gaming when the supposed professionals of the industry don't have an ounce of respect for their customer base. Kudos at least to Coleco for having the class and dignity to finally demand results from Kennedy and then kicking his ass to the curb after he failed to deliver. And good on you both for fighting the good fight :)

I saw Gamester81's vid, good on him for doing it but I didn't agree about his statements like "everyone fucks up" there's a difference between a mistake and the lies the guy was kicking out. Those photos were very substantial and instead of answering he lied again.
Scam? Who knows, probably not but he lied how many times and kept pushing this thing he obviously didn't have and it was lie after lie. High horse and beating up on someone who's down? People just want answers, this interested people and the guy fed lies instead of taking this on. He still hasn't. So of course people are angry.
Any company fucks up they expect an apology, the Coleco guy couldn't even do that to Gamster81 never the less the people who were interested.
Or future devs who, if they try and kick out a console WILL be compared to Coleco, they will be under a bloody microscope because of Coleco's bullshit.

There have been multiple youtubers to come forward and call out this sham. What I dont understand is why John didnt. If I was John I would be pissed and the last thing I would do is defend Mikes character while seemingly criticizing those calling this a fraud. This is not a matter of opinion. So in this regard alone I understand why some have pointed their finger at him. He gave Mike a pass on this BS. He really needs to admit this was a fraud and fault Mike for lying to the community if he truly wants to clear the air.

Take some time off from playing to read about how to utilize a modern graphics pipeline correctly and also take a look at engines that are not inherently broken for forward-looking development practices.

I am exactly one of those who connected your criticisms with John, and exactly because of that hour long interview he did back for the Retro VGS, although I was aware that it wasn't directly aimed at him, but at the project as a whole.
I do feel sorry for John, nevermind that he really had a couple of wrong steps along the way, I think that his enthusiasm for a theoretically cool project burned him in the end far more than it should have...
When someone is backed into a corner it's just human instinct to lash out. I watched John's video and could tell how he felt that his character was being attacked and needed to blow off some steam. Pat and Ian never mentioned John at all but it was that certain portion of the community that went ahead and started talking shit to john that made him feel like he was being put into that group. I like Gamester81 and never associated him with the coleco chameleon project to the point where he was there standing over a clear jaguar shell with Mike Kennedy rubbing there hands together while dropping a DVR board inside of it. Collector Vision games was duped just like the rest of us but with John he had a friendly relationship with Mike so i can understand him not coming out publicly against the product until he got the whole story from Mike and from what i understand they have not even talked about it yet. This is just my opinion, i don't know anyone involved. I'm just a broke ass retro gamer, good day to you's.

I don't think Mike Kennedy was always evil. I listened to him on Retro Gaming Roundup for years. I think he overpromised, invested too much money and then became desperate, which led him to try and deceive the public in an attempt to stall for time.
Loyalty is overrated. People find ways to use others peoples loyalty for their own gain and whole corrupt environments creates a feeling among the group that people who are loyal and never speak up will somehow get rewarded or respected for it. Worse still at other times loyalty is put up as some ideal an exalted state of mind and being that has moral value in it self.
When it truth loyalty is only valuable if the cause or person you are loyal to is valuable. To serve, to support and to defend is not admirable in itself and it is great that there are people within groups that sets truth above "keeping everyone happy".
Glad you and John have sorted it out. You are both valuable to the retro gaming scene. Let's see you and gamester81 do a flea market madness episode one time. I can see Frank and gamester81 having a beer together.

i'm a little behind the times, but i just recently found out about this Coleco Chameleon scam, just crazy man!
Kennedy disappeared and John became the scapegoat for all of this which is a shame. Like you guys said, people were looking for someone to attack and they found John an "easy prey" so to speak. Good to hear you talked things over. No fake or real console is worth a fight.
And now the guys at Coleco Chameleon moved on from deleting incriminating photos on their Facebook page to straight up deleting their whole Facebook page!
If Mike Kennedy is using funds from the Retro magazine to fund outside ventures, is that along the lines of(if not outright) embezzlement?

On the 14:10 mark,i actually talked to Piko interactive saying if they had plans of porting some of their games for the jaguar,fortunately they do,the problem is that they don't have a method of printing their games on cart for the system,i suggested to them if mike could lend the cart molder to them,then they responded me with a "eeeehhhhhh no",giving me the assumption that they cut off their contact with Kennedy.

Thanks for these videos exposing this crap. I have been more of a die hard PC gamer since the late 80s and without good reporting or coming across those deeply into this stuff, I could have easily fallen for believing there would be an all-in-one 16 bit console nowadays. I was looking into this stuff for my 9 yr old son. He likes 8 bit and 16 bit games more than I.... Thanks again.
All these attacks on both John and Pat with this mob mentality were all from folks just trying to bring something to their meaningless and pathetic lives.

Looks as if the facebook page has been deleted for them.
I remember the day I found the Facebook page of RETRO VGS with like 4 likes and a crappy looking mockup of a console design. I even copied the link to the page and sent it to some staff members at RETRO magazine because their logo was on someone's shit idea. Also, I worked on a magazine called Retrocade a few years back with Original PSP, and saw he got on with RETRO, and after multiple emails to Mike Kennedy, contacting him in different ways, he finally said "I'll get back to you" about contributions, after advertising that they needed contributors. See, I absolutely love you guys for stuff like this! I have NEVER understood why some ppl have a problem with individuals calling out the wrongdoers in our community. I don't understand it one bit. It's like ppl have this philosophy of being nice regardless of what a person does or has done. I say screw that noise! If you do something shady or are trying to take advantage of people, especially within our own community, then people ABSOLUTELY deserve to know about it!
There is absolutely nothing wrong with being critical of those doing business within our community. I think it's fantastic that you guys are here doing this and that a large portion of your content is dedicated to calling out any and all wrongdoers within the gaming community! Before anyone tries any shit 'round here, they should remember that you guys are here.
