  • Often, those without DID can be confused by the phrase "my alters" and think it to mean a possessive, where one alter either possess within them or is in charge of other alters. Silver breaks down why this isn't true!

Good point. But I think it is important to note some systems like using hierarchy. Especially a lot of osdd 1a and poly fragmented systems. Good video!

I was JUST wondering about polyfragmentation. Are the alters who have broken off one of the alters in the system (I hope I'm saying that correctly) considered part of the original system or part of a whole new system, or both?

I use “my alters” but also my alters aren’t particularly distinct. As a result, we agreed to all share the same first name (different middle names). So I think it’s hilarious to say “I’m one of Haven’s alters” because all of us are named Haven...

This is a very good point. When we were questioning if we might be a system and watching videos by DID UA-camrs, we always took "my alters" in the one-way possessive sense, and for a long while afterwards too, which is so wrong. Good job explaining this, Silver! I'm glad you made this video.
Sometimes I actually just say "the alters," which is also uncomfortable, and I now realise that's because it's even more separating. Like... There's me, and then over there there's some other people.
Think I might just start saying "my headmates" 'cause it sounds like roommates, and everyone knows you don't own your roommates, haha

We usually just say ,,the others". Our friends understand it but it is a phrasing that can't out us.

Alters do seem a lot like families! I think I understand this, at least now because I know there's host and things, but alters need to communicate well and are all equal! Thanks for explaining this, proud of your system! I am someone without did and it's important you made this video! Sending love, prayers, and appreciation to all your alters!! ❤❤❤💓💓

Hey just found your channel. Subscribed already.
My headmates aren't newly realized, but that are just recently realized as not just an over active imagination. We are working on getting an official diagnosis.
Hope you ave a great week!!

I like to use headmates.. so I’ll say ‘my headmates’ but I guess you could change it to ‘skullmate’ ‘mindmate’ ‘bodybro’ 😅

We say things like "the others" / "other alters" etc to avoid that potential miscommunication altogether. If we have to use posessive pronouns we say "our".

Thank you once again for an exceptional video.
I will be adding this to my collection of videos to share with significant people in my life... like my half-sister and my dear friends of many years.
I will also add it to my collection of videos to share with people new to their own diagnosis or the diagnosis of someone they love.

this has always been such a weird word and how to use it respectfully - that i don't -and i've stopped using 'roles' titles too - because as persons heal and want to use their skills for other things i don't want anyone limited by a 'job description' - so we are all family or kindred. period. i realized how important this was when meeting one that was very angry - the others were afraid of her. and i had to think about how to talk to her. We all came from the same place for the same reason. some are good communicators, - but we are all protectors if it comes down to it. A therapy system i worked with once used protectors and exiles - only. I quickly found that to be really ineffective for healing . Everyone is going to have a burden. - or they wouldn't exist. So , listen talk , and heal the emotions of the burdens

What made you first think you had OSDD?

    • @TheRingsSystem
      @TheRingsSystem  4 роки тому +7

A lot of things. Most notably, one of the alters has a very flat affect, and doesn't feel many emotions - which was the first sign that something was weird. Then I looked into it more and it all made sense :)

      Sorry for the late response.
Thanks for the info! I've been trying to look into OSDD/DID since I have very similar symptoms (I have c-ptsd), but all the doctors I've talked to don't know anything about it.

I love the comparison to friends or family as I see the other alter in our system as sort of like a little sister (yeah we're a 2 alter system though I'm thinking there might be a 3rd but not sure)

When people ask who is the main one, we answer Blue because they have been here the longest and split first. So I guess they are the “first one”
So uh hi I’m Jinx! Blue’s alter. I front the most

Yeah this is so important! The way I've thus far explained it to people is we're roommates but inside a body instead of a flat or apartment since that really gives them a pretty clear dynamic I think

I’ve always kept referring them as my alters but now that does sound more fitting to refer to them as my head mates thank you great info but I also always refer to them by name and say they are a part of my system because at this point they don’t come out completely they come up enough to where I can hear what they’re saying and I relay it to others that are outside the body I don’t know why they’re afraid to come completed the front but they are and they don’t talk to one another except one Lesa

We say "system members" because we don't like alter for some reason (sounds too close to alternative for us 😅 even if it isn't on purpose) and headmates is too friendly- we'd end up saying "there are members who xyz"
