What the?!? I'm a long time Jacob listener, but I wasn't expecting that at all. Such variety and mixing of genres and styles. Great to see Take 6 up on stage with Jacob, one of his stylistic and sonic inspirations. Jacob's music transcends jazz or any one style, it's hard to put into words, best not try! Very enjoyable, can listen for hours...
I love him so much it's unreal, Jacob Collier is truly one of the modern day greats in terms of composing and arrangement. My mind has been expanded multiple times by his interviews and his pieces
inspiring, magic, awesome, epic, wonderful, confusing, satisfying, happy, sad, dark, bright. pure harmony. this dude is amazing, the world has never seen an artist that comes close to what jacob is doing.
Jacob is incredible, he picks up where Stevie Wonder left off - and that is saying a LOT!!! He has also really grown into being a great concert high energy performer as well. Love the guy, so inspiring on so many levels!!!
+Mikiin ajijic Stevie was a virtuoso vocalist and harmonica player as well as being one of the greatest songwriters of all time. Collier is nowhere near Stevie Wonder's level of genius in those fields. kind of laughable actually that you would compare two completely different styles. Jacob is very good at what he does, but it has very little to do with what Stevie does.
dylan foley I don't think it's fair to compare two very different musicians in very different genres, with different styles. Both are legendary in their own right.
dylan foley Dude, you officially lost this debate the moment you typed the word “turd.” You also proved that you need to put in a lot more time listening to Stevie. “Modal interchange” is about the hardest thing he’s done.” Since when was it a competition to see who can execute the hardest thing musically speaking? I’m ecstatic about a musician like Jacob. He is one in a billion but until he will never ever touch the number of lives that Stevie has. Don’t forget, Stevie was signed to Motown records when he was 11!!! Oh, and I’m pretty sure that Stevie could give a deuce about closing the argument on dualistic vs. non-dualistic. Take a note: Too much talk about the math, science, and theory of music tends to take the fun out of it. Stevie not only sang those songs using his “expressive voice” he also wrote the music, those incredibly poetic lyrics, but in most cases he also played every instrument on any given song. I don’t want to sound like I’m against Jacob because I’m not. Even Jacob would tell you that you’re wrong about your opinions, and it would have nothing to do with him being humble. It would have everything to do with him telling the truth. Stay classy.
he is going to be the most lifechanging musician to ever grace the earth. Literally. I remembered when he said classical music was people just watching the music. he conducts the audience and it almost brought me to tears. He is a human, but by human standards he is the embodiment of music. And he uses his gifts for the greater good. The world can be changed by music and it might not change right now but, he is going to be talked about forever. In the best way possible. seriously, I never imagined myself almost coming to tears seeing him conduct the audience like that. I never look at him and wish I could be him, instead I see him as someone who is the most talented person in music we have ever seen who is using his talents to the fullest. And it makes me want to see what is my own fullest potential. Truly humbling even knowing his story and the stories he tells in his music. Wow. fucking blyme. I fucking love humans man. if the human brain is the biggest weapon of all. Then that makes ourselves our own worst enemy. strive for the greater good. like jacob.

Increadible... I was at this concert and it was nothing short of unforgettable. I remember when it finished, I felt genuinely upset. I didn't want it to end. I could've sat there all night.
@@SOPRATENOR I see what you mean - it could be there for a split second but there is an A and Bb and with some people copying the C that he is hitting, it sounds more like a Bbmaj9
Oh yes thank you my friend! With my speakers, I had not heard the A so I listened with a good headphones and indeed, there is, as you said, an A and a Bb. So, personally, I would call this chord (audience + Genius on the stage) a C13 (even if it misses the D) ... Or so C7/6 sus4 :) It's nice to talk with real musicians!
agreeing with Gus/Sopratenor: since this is the V chord in the musical phrase, I would have to go with C7/6 sus4. We jazz pianists would write this as a C7sus4 though, where the 6/13 would be implied as a color tone - but also as an arranger, I would describe it the way Sopratenor has it as well (or if this was a "pop tune" maybe Bbma7/C). And how exactly does one write a poly chord in figured bass? :-D I get the 3rd inversion notation (6:5), but how does one put that over C? LOL! Not that any of this silliness matters at all LOL! I just like talking to fellow musicians as well ;-)
Never seen anyone live and breath music more than this guy... If music could be personified it would surely be Jacob Collier! Literally takes music places it didn't even knew it could go and makes it look effortless! Incredible!
This man is easily one of the most innovative musicians of this generation - certainly an inspiration to myself and countless other musicians out there.

Reactions from one music lover who knows nothing about music theory: Jacob is obviously an incredible talent with (apparently) a once-in-a-generation harmonic and rhythmic understanding. Better yet, he is a joyous soul who generously shares his talent with his audience and other musicians, and seems emotionally grounded in a way that few prodigies are. I can’t wait to see what he brings into the world. BUT: speaking just for myself, most of what I’ve heard of his music thus far leaves me cold; his singing voice in particular is hard for me to relate to (too perfect?); and a lot of the snippets of these Proms arrangements sound, I hate to say it, rather kitschy to my ears. But I fully accept that I am in the minority, and that many, many listeners are as moved by his music as I am by his personality!
David Franklin I hear you. Some of his stuff leaves me cold, too. I’m still getting used to his singing voice, especially the falsetto. On the other hand, pieces like Hajanga, In My Room, Hideaway are so beautiful and moving. I love his rhythms.
I tend to agree. I found this prom actually quite difficult to watch for more than 5 or 10 minutes at a time as there was too much jumping around and rushing into different styles and songs. Some of his style is similar to James Blake, but Blake has focused on his style and gone from strength to strength. Jacob seems terrifically talented and popular, no doubt about that, but I wonder whether a lack of focus on something in particular will be the problem for him. I'd have probably walked out of that Prom.
I agree! he is a perfect and stunning musician but for moments I feel him too robotic and too harmonized, I wish he had less "negative" harmony and more Jeff Buckley kind of interpretation.
The first interview I saw with him blew my mind but I have a working knowledge of music theory so that helped. However, and I think this will fix itself as time passes, I think his best stuff is yet to come. I think it will be his best because perhaps he will be able to put all of the technical talk aside and focus purely on using his incredible talent to create songs that will stand the test of time. I guess what I’m saying is that you’re not alone in thinking what you’re thinking. I’m gonna follow his star because he’s one of a kind. He’s still very young in the grand scheme of things.
Jacob Collier always leaves me gasping for air. It seems that I am so amazed by this gentleman that I instinctively and most involuntarily hold my breath until it becomes most uncomfortable. Only then do I realize I'm holding my breath. Wow!!! It happens time after time!
No tengo palabras, solo tengo muchas sensaciones que recorren por toda mi alma. Jacob, tu arte no es de este mundo, y el arte que hacen juntos es extraordinario, fantástico, mágico. Las estrellas me tienen con tu música! GENIO!!! Aplausos desde el alma!!!
