I’m 72 years old and I was a teenager and this was played on my radio in the the 70s. I retired from the Marine Corps in 2000 after a 30 year career. This makes me feel like a teenager all over again.👍🇺🇸 Great song!!!!

You poor innocent dope! Read up on the story before making idiot posts like this. The musicians on the backing track are the Tremeloes, and only Jeff Christie singing after the tremeloes decided not to release it with their singer on it. There is also piano which must have been an overdub if not an extra session musician. They gave it to the drummer's brother to release and a band was created around him and Jeff the songwriter and singer to mime on the TV and in the video. That's why they took Jeff's surname for the band! Only their less successful followups were recorded by the band you see in the pictures

I just added this song to a post on my Substack. It still sounds great today: )
" I spent a lot of my early years in my bedroom listening to music or grabbing a hairbrush and singing to one of the latest chart songs in front of my mirror. On that note, I will always remember my grandmother walking in on me bouncing up and down on my bed, hairbrush in hand, belting out Yellow River by the band Christie. Now that was a sight to behold!"

I'm 16 years old, I listen to a huge number of songs of those years, thanks to my dad for showing me the world of good music, it's a pity that now they don't try so hard when creating music ...

The band you see in this video was Jeff Christie's touring band. The band you hear is actually The Tremeloes.
The Tremeloes recorded this song with a view to releasing it as a single. However they reconsidered as they were changing direction. Jeff Christie had written the song so he took the backing track from the Tremeloes and recorded his own vocals over the top. He very deservedly had a hit with it.
The Tremeloes still play this song in concert.

Gee, what a cool song this is. Just for you, Jeff, to know, it took Brazil over back then. It was an anthem, mandatory in parties, a lullaby song for so many teen romance all over the country. Thank you, buddy. It brought me some good memories. Cheers!

Dear Jeff, I discovered "Yellow River" earlier this year on a Swedish retro station at the age 37. It is one of the best pop songs I have ever heard. I conveyed my adoration of the song to my Dad, and he told me that it was a big favourite of his when he was a student in Leeds in 1970. Thank you for the music! Steve

What a great video you have posted here, too. Thank you for the music & the memories ! As I said, I was only 3 when this was "current," but my radio was my best friend & this happy tune was always a favorite when it would play. I hope you are doing well these days, Sir Jeff ! I have only listened to this about 7 times now !

Grew up listening as a little girl reminds me of summertime float trips with friends along the Illinois River, lots of tippy canoes 🛶 water moccasin snakes, sunburns & fun times. The band along the hwy at the end looks like they’re hitchhiking & running towards their ride, sweet memories of days long past!! ☀️☀️☀️
