The best song ever in Dutch history: VENUS by Shocking Blue!!
Does anyone agree that this original version is simply THE BEST?!? 🎶😊🎶
Of course
Both are great but I like Bananarama just a bit better....

Dutch? Don't make me laugh))
Marishka Veres was Hungarian. The music of "Venus" was stolen from Tim Rose: "The Banjo Song" by The Big 3, an American folk trio. And both Americas were stolen from Native Indians.
Europeans only know how to steal someone else's. But it will not work with Little Russia aka Old Rus and Ukraine, - our Daggers and Zircons are in vigilant combat duty mode.
Glory to Russia!
Her hair, the makeup, the clothes- What a classic/iconic 60s-early 70s beauty singing a song that stood the test of time. Brings me back to a simpler time in my life that I miss so much...

That's how easy music is, no fireworks, dance troupe, acrobatics or effects, just good music.
No autotune, contract songwriters nor army of producers

Once upon a time, artists produced quality songs both lyrically and musically. It was a delight to the ears of any music lover. You could listen to it endlessly. " Venus...." released in 1969 and still popular in 2023...! The sixties, seventies, eighties... great times or in other words... heydays for rock music...! Big contrast to the current music experience...! And let's be honest, what a beautiful lead singer or " Maria Elizabeth ENDER " better known as " Mariska VERES " at her best...! Sadly you left us far too soon sweetheart, but you will always be in my thoughts. Beautiful memories of you. R.I.P. and greetings to the Netherlands...! SHOCKING BLUE... pure youth sentiment...!

Anya dancing to this has to be one of the most iconic series scene on several years, the aesthetics and cinematography plus her expressions and body language were on point.
People like you use the word "iconic" frivolously. I see it all the time here on UA-cam.
Iconic means timeless and globally known, which is not the case. Iconic is that scene from Titanic where the leading couple stands on the bow of the ship, not a scene from a show that if you ask people, 19 out of 20 haven't seen, and nobody will remember in five years.
@@Davidman3976 If by people like me you mean people currently working in English Literature Master degree, yes maybe.
Iconic means: " very famous or popular, especially being considered to represent particular opinions" according to Cambridge Dictionary.

Absolutely timeless masterpiece. If song AND video were released (as is) today in 2024 it would STILL be a huge hit. Great is great - across all eras.
I had no idea Bananarama's was a cover. I LOVE this version even more. What a voice she has, heavy, thick and luxurious, so much gravitas. A very confident singer.
I never knew this was a 60s psychedelic song, that’s what I was more shocked about. I always thought it was a weird 70s early 80s song like “walking on sunshine” or a pointer sisters song.
Even some of the songs that first came out in the 60’s we had no idea they were done like 20-40 years earlier. It’s quite a compliment for artists to redo your version. It means they totally respect you. My son is a DJ and remixes so many things. He had no idea about the Labi Siffre “I got the” song released in 1975 was the original to Eminem’s release using it in the background in his song “my name is” in 1999. Both great on their own. People that sue over this stuff are missing the point of how much respect it is to want to honor and show how their music spoke and inspired them to produce new rhythms and Melodie’s that made their original revived and heard again with honor.
I was 16 when the song hit radio. I played in teen center bands and it was one song that got everybody up and dancing. Bananarama did a very good cover but living through 60's music, it brings back great memories. RIP Mariska Veres.

Absolutely legendary song. Just oozes the counterculture of the 60s. ❤ ☮️
Yes I agree that this version is the best brilliant song from a very good group classic😊😊😊
So sad that the woman singer in the band sadly passed away i can't even begin to pronounce her name yes fantastic band and this version the best buy a long way Master piece 😄

LYRICS
A Goddess on a mountain top
Was burning like a silver flame
The summit of Beauty in love
And Venus was her name
She's got it yeah, Baby, she's got it
Well, I'm your Venus, I'm your fire
At your desire
Well, I'm your Venus, I'm your fire
At your desire
Her weapon were her crystal eyes
Making every man mad
Black as the dark night she was
Got what no-one else had
Wa!
She's got it yeah, Baby, she's got it
Well, I'm your Venus, I'm your fire
At your desire
Well, I'm your Venus, I'm your fire
At your desire
Ha ha ha ha
She's got it yeah, Baby, she's got it
Well, I'm your Venus, I'm your fire
At your desire
Well, I'm your Venus, I'm your fire
At your desire
Thank you for the lyrics.
I like how you added the Wa! in the lyrics
YEEEEssssss!!!!
Godness
Can’t believe she did that type of high note just beautiful. And so unique as well!
When? Pls help me😅
I was in Lebanon. I think it was 1972 when I first heard this song, I loved it then I still do, I went to France 1976 I heared still there, I came to the US I watch the video and repeat it many times. I love it.
I remember when this first came out, wow, it became an immediate hit. Just from the sound of Mariska Veres's voice I was in love, and after seeing this video for the first time, she was a knockout for sure.
This shows that a band can be formed anywhere and make it big! This song will last forever!
Actually it was them who compose it....
Love this song and Shocking Blue!......
Always a great song, I remember from my youth. She could not speak English and sang phonetically. Despite the free-spirited lifestyle of so many in the music industry at that time, Mariska never embraced the rock n roll lifestyle. She never drank or took drugs and made it clear upon joining the band that she would not get romantically involved with any of the members. She was pleasantly naïve, when the bands founder and chief lyricist, Robbie Van Leeuwen shouted at her she burst into tears and rang her mother who promptly phoned the band’s manager to complain! In 2006 Mariska Veres died of cancer. She never married or had any children. By her own admission she was unapproachable in the early days, she considered herself as little more than a doll who never found true inner happiness until she turned her back on the industry and pressures of being a beautiful woman in the spotlight. So here’s the video to her most successful single with the Shocking Blue. The lip synching is not great, it never was back then but she certainly has a presence. Forget comparisons with todays artists and imagine seeing her in the late sixties for the first time, there was just something about her…
Thanks for all the info .
"She could not speak English". Highly unlikely. She's Dutch. All Dutch people speak English as their language.
well said and thank you sir
@@hwgray in the 1960s too?
@@paacer Me too,i didn`t know more of the life of Mariska Veres and that she died in 2006. R.I.P. to her 😊
The 60s the best generation. In people, music, fashion, dance.
To bad its gone
Gone but never forgotten...... Magic 🎵 Music.
yeah it was pretty good except for the racism
@@heymcfly7325 there wasn't much racism. Blacks and whites got along.
Its not like today.
Racism was more dominate in the 70s n 80s.
Literacy's still alive - TOO bad you ignore it.
Such hit!👌👏👏👏 If it sounds so powerful now, I can’t imagine when it came out, during the sixties?
Have always loved this song. Even won a restaurant gift certificate in a trivia game because I knew the name of the group. That was roughly 25 years after this hit the charts.
RIP Mariska. She definitely had it.
I remember when this song played on the radio back in the late 60s. I still like it.
What ur age now mate ?
@@MuhNoorAkbarH Lisa! Don't know how old Gary is but I was about 12 when this song was on the air. Fantastic! Girl is hypnotic......
and those advertiments in the 90s lol
