This is a movie that really didn't need a re-make. How can you top John Wayne's Oscar-winning performance, or this beautiful song by the great Glen Campbell? Wonderful!
I battle the tears every time I hear Glen singing this. I loved him as if he was my own brother. This song is my most favorite of his.....his voice blends most beautifully with the instrumental orchestration like no other he ever recorded. The song (and film) brings back very special memories....and I miss Glen so very much!!
This song reminds me of an amazing woman that just died 3 weeks ago. She was my best friend, and though not blood, was a mother to me for 10 years. She was an amazing lady...all lady....but strong and independent. She kept me sane thru the worst 5 years of my life. I ache for you, dear Kathleen, and can NEVER thank you enough! I found my woman of True Grit! Love you, Mom.
This was my father’s favorite movie. We watched it so much the taped eventually quit working. I fight back tears everytime I watch it. I can hear him quote the movie as It plays. Heat every laugh, and everytime he got choked up. Come see a fat old man sometime, he’d say.
I saw him in Las Vegas in 1978 when I was 20. He was absolutely amazing, and so funny. One of the best concerts I've ever seen 😊 x x I've just remembered, a few years later I saw the Beach Boys in London when he was on tour with them!!
Sure is a good song. Came out when I was 13 and thought the world was my oyster. That was to abruptly change over the next couple on years, un fortunately .
Give me that America I had back in '69-a country of greatness, greatest actors and singers! God save this great nation! We were blessed with John Wayne and Glenn Campbell gracing the movie & recording studios, when it came to human contributions! Two pillars of immense talent!
I'm going to look for this movie. Glen's voice is spectacular. He's the musical artist, who owns his songs. And no one else can come close to his voice.
I know that I am sticking my neck out saying this but I feel it deep down inside and the moment is magnificent. While the music is playing the scene where John Wayne and Glen Campbell first arrive to catch the ferry is something. That something is one of the most seemingly trivial of scenes. But when the horse stick their heads over the ridge and the Duke and Glen appear , pause stop and look around and slowly turn and ride down to the ferry .Well John Wayne for a few brief moments has one of the most dignified and majestic moments in his long illustrious career. He and Glen are everything that is the most moving and unforgettable sights in all Hollywod movies. He is thoughtful, serene, and natural. It is ingrained in my memory. In this fleeting minor moment he is heroic. In the most beautifully westren moments. His whole career is genuine and valid and so worth it. Devastating.
Is song means everything to me ,my dad used to play this song on his guitar and sing it to me.we played it at his funeral last yr .kills me everytime I listen to it but I cant stop. Miss him do much 😢
AHH Shucks does that Song bring back Memeorable Memories of that Time in My Life. Although I wasn't a Big Fan of Glen Campbell at that Time. My Older Sister had a Very Tremendous Crush on Him in Those years. She had everyone of His Album's, so I'd Hear His Great Singing a lot growing up. The Bueatiful Harmony of that Song & His Voice was just So Perfect for That Film and the Scenery. That Not even I could Hold Back My Tears whenever I'd Hear it. Thank You for Sharing it Again. May Glen Campbell & The Duke, RIP Under the Loving Protection of Our Lord God 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👍.
Fallen in Love with this song.... all over again; Takes me back to 1969, Las Vegas. My older Brother Ken ( miss you Bro) took me down to Fremont ( one of the theaters down there, that year...but can't remember which one) to see this Film. God i miss my youth...those 'years.... Life seemed so much simpler, more 'fun....and was so far removed from the 'old' 'hard' years, i'm living now....in this era. Don't we long to go back to your Youth? .... always....
I first heard this song a few years back when i watched True Grit. I thought it was nice and earmarked it. I didnt know Glen Campbell sang it. But I knew Rhinestone Cowboy ever since I was a child. I didnt know the actor in the movie was Glen Campbell who sang Rhinestone Cowboy. Well, I'm not from the U.S.
I remember John wayne and his daughter going back stage looking for Glen Campell his daughter wanted to meet Glen they had a conversation and John asked would he like to make a movie and the rest is history ❤
It's was a pity that people didn't have this kind of courage when we were confronted by power hungry law enforcement during lockdown. Bunch of of spineless cowards, the lot of them!
@@stuartbritton4811 That is EXACTLY what I thought of the last time I watched this movie, with tears in my eyes: how badly I desire to be a Rooster Cogburn in such moments, and how much easier it is to be a Tom Chaney.
This opening ranch scene is the Telluride/Ouray area of Colorado. We drove by it while touring the area...recognized it right off. It was all boarded up at the time.
The song,, the Movie,, the People who played the parts , THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME ,, There is no greater actor or AMERICAN PATRIOT THAN JOHN WAYNE,,,RIP "DUKE"
Exact Lyrics: One day little girl, The sadness will leave your face... As soon as you've won your fight to get justice done. Some days, little girl, you'll wonder what life's about... But, others have known, few battles are won alone. So, you look around to find someone who's kind, someone who is fearless like you. The pain of it, will ease a bit, when you find a man with True Grit. One day, you will rise and you won't believe your eyes... You'll wake up and see a world that is fine and freed. Though summer seems far away... You'll find the sun, one day. Though summer seems far away... But, you'll find the sun one day.

No song has ever fit a movie more aptly than this one. A great song. A great movie. A great cast. The 3 leading stars were perfectly cast as were the supporting actors. It almost brings me to tears every time I hear this song or watch the final scene between John Wayne and Kim Darby. Perfect ending to a wonderful movie!

It's a shame intelligent informed people who consider themselves somewhat of authorities on music today don't even know who Glen Campbell was. "Oh? Was he some kind of singer?"
This is a movie that really didn't need a re-make. How can you top John Wayne's Oscar-winning performance, or this beautiful song by the great Glen Campbell? Wonderful!
they FOUND a way
The remake was and is crap.
Don't mess with a classic

We will see Glen in heaven he was a good man with huge heart ❤️
I agree with everything you said, we lost a great entertainer and he has left us all with great memories and his music. 😊💗
Me too friend.... me too.... What a beautiful song.
This song reminds me of an amazing woman that just died 3 weeks ago. She was my best friend, and though not blood, was a mother to me for 10 years. I love your gratitude to this lady. Long life you and your family
Here’s to Kathleen!
You have my deepest condolences. We could all be blessed to have Kathleen in our lives.
You have done yourself and Kathleen proud ❤
Glen was blessed with so much God given talent and he made the most of it. His voice and guitar playing will never be duplicated.
Couldn’t agree more! RIP Glen Thank you for the music.
Glen Campbell's voice fits this song perfectly.
What a song !! What a film !!
One of the best movies I've ever seen
Mr. Wayne said it was best one he ever read
Critics say The Searchers as his best but I'd put The Undefeated,Rio Lobo and The Alamo up there too.
They knew what they where doing asking Glen Campbell to do the soundtrack, outstanding 👏
This was my father’s favorite movie. We watched it so much the taped eventually quit working. I fight back tears everytime I watch it. I can hear him quote the movie as It plays. Heat every laugh, and everytime he got choked up. Come see a fat old man sometime, he’d say.
Only Glen Campbell could sing this song so perfectly. Simply magical. 🙏💕
Glen Campbell , one of the most amazing entertainers of all time . RIP . Love his music .

very underrated song
Just watched the ending of True Grit and remembered how much I love this song. Tears in my eyes now. So beautiful.
The song reminds me of the love of my life. I tear up every time I hear it.
I know how you feel. :)
Sure is a good song. Came out when I was 13 and thought the world was my oyster. That was to abruptly change over the next couple on years, un fortunately .
Still watching and ❤️❤️ this song and movie. R.I.P. Duke and Glen.
Was my dad's favourite John Wayne movie. He watched them everyday up until he died when he was 86yo...
Glen Campbell=SUPERSTAR!!!
This reminds me of my mother who has been gone since 1996. This song and movie are such sad memories.
Give me that America I had back in '69-a country of greatness, greatest actors and singers! God save this great nation! We were blessed with John Wayne and Glenn Campbell gracing the movie & recording studios, when it came to human contributions! Two pillars of immense talent!
Great song by glen Campbell
Definitely a very big part of this great movie was Glen singing this great song 👍🏻👍🏻❤️
Great movie and great song by Glen Campbell, the good old days we still remember. ❤
I'm going to look for this movie. Glen's voice is spectacular. He's the musical artist, who owns his songs. And no one else can come close to his voice.
Absolutely beautiful.
Beautiful...felt nostalgic..😔

One of the best talented musicians and entertainer s of all time
A superb song from Glen Campbell and the strangest thing is that Glen doesn’t even get a mention in the opening credits of this fantastic movie.
Absolutely gorgeous,, Glen always made whatever he sang his own... "REST EASY DEAR GLEN" xx
Great Movie
I was 14 when I saw this movie was in Glen Campbell fan club too - love so many of his songs and True Grit especially 💕
Beautiful ❤️
I remember John wayne and his daughter going back stage looking for Glen Campell his daughter wanted to meet Glen they had a conversation and John asked would he like to make a movie and the rest is history ❤
I got to see this at radio city music hall,my parents took me and my sisters to see this when it came out
''Fill your hand, you son of a bitch.'' You have no idea how much I admire a decision like that (even if it is a movie).

Always think of my daughter. Glen Campbell always loved his music
I'm a Liberal and I'm happy to say God Bless John Wayne.

Ese último salto del duke quedo grabado en mi corazón
What song,what a movie
Elmer Bernstein wrote a beautiful song for True Grit - Glen Campbell made it a classic
True country

THANK YOU
Bernstein / Black combo for theme🎵🎵🎶🎶👍👍
Beautiful melody by Elmer Bernstein
Nostálgico song😂
I read that John Wayne originally approached Elvis Presley to do the part but Parker was asking for a ridiculous amount of money.

Un jour, petite fille, la tristesse quittera ton visage
One day, little girl, the sadness will leave your face
Dès que tu as gagné le combat pour que justice soit faite
As soon as you've won the fight to get justice done
Un jour petite fille tu te demanderas de quoi il s'agit dans la vie
Someday little girl you'll wonder what life's about
Mais d'autres ont connu que peu de batailles sont gagnées seules
But other's have known few battles are won alone
Alors, tu regardes autour de toi pour trouver
So, you'll look around to find
Quelqu'un qui est gentil, quelqu'un qui n'a pas peur comme toi
Someone who's kind, someone who is fearless like you
La douleur de celui-ci s'atténuera un peu
The pain of it will ease a bit
Quand tu trouves un homme avec du vrai cran
When you find a man with true grit
Un jour tu te lèveras et tu n'en croiras pas tes yeux
One day you will rise and you won't believe your eyes
Vous vous réveillerez et verrez
You'll wake up and see
Un monde beau et gratuit
A world that is fine and free
Bien que l'été semble loin
Though summer seems far away
Tu trouveras le soleil un jour
You will find the sun one day

did they gave quick dry linen clothes back then after chicky poo and scout hit the pool?
Why keeps buffing
NOT the movie version.
Glen sang a whole lot better than he could act !
Elvis was very close to acting in this movie but his manager demanded a better amount of money than John Wayne’s…so it didn’t happen
Good!
I liked GC too, but maybe next time they can award Best Song to "The Hokey Pokey"?

Ha ha! Well spotted!
The role, the song would have belonged to Elvis...
How sad that due to Hollywood, kids now worship the fast and furious teen car movies, which glorify breaking the law, just the opposite of this movie
God I hate this song and I love GC and I love both true grits
This song blows but hey they can’t all be home runs right?
