I often listened to this song when most of us didn't have the TV yet. The only entertainment we had was the radio which often broadcast audio dramas of martial arts, which always used this intro as the opening. An happy childhood.

My brother flew in the bush in Africa for 7 years, met the love of his life there, loved flying over all that wildlife and died in a plane crash so this story resonates. He lived long enough to see this film and I know it was special for him as he had a CD of the soundtrack among his belongings,

I learnt that South Africa 🇿🇦 is a nation of divide.. hmmmm.. the English are in the field of financial system and government the Dutch are in the field of farming and food production and the African black are in a house cleaning services .. hmmmm.. but..
extremely few African black are in the government role that make decisions.. hmmmm, and the Indian and their gem stones, and yeah, the coloured ones.. hmmmm..that didn't feel where they belong to.. hmmmm..😔.

As a young girl of 19, newly married, I flew to Kenya with my husband for him to take up a British civil service post for 3 years. We lived just outside Nairobi and not far from Karen where the coffee farm stood. It was 1957. This film fills me with memories and the beautiful John Barry music.

Next to Born Free, this is my second favorite movie of all time. I’ve watched it dozens of times and am mesmerized from beginning to end every time. You can hardly get better than these two actors. Redford is breathtaking, always has been, always will be. Meryl is perfection in everything she does and this one is no exception - one of, if not THE best film she’s ever done!!!

Long ago my Dutch/African fiance and I parted just weeks before our wedding day. How I loved him. It's strange that this should appear unexpectedly, so many years later on my journey. I think the hallmark of a good story is that you can never grow exhausted of it - no matter how many times you've heard it told, it feels like the first time you've heard it.
That's how I feel about this incredible story. It's a story I can never get tired of, one which feels like an odyssey your grandparents would tell you about, a story of a land and life completely lost to time.
Absolutely love this movie, never fails to move me.
This movie and music made me want to visit Kenya. My wish was fulfilled in 2016. On the flight there I listened to this soundtrack and read the book. It was a beautiful trip and experience
When I see Africa, its landscapes and its life beings I see the deepest and humble beauty in the world. Someday I will go to fulfil one of my wishes of all my life😊🙏

It was better in the 60s and 70s. Very safe then. As young teens, We would cycle into the city, and cycle home to Kilaleshawa at dusk. The big adventure was cycling out to the Airport at Embakasi. (in those days, Lions were spotted in the vicinity too!). It was a full-day trip. Happy days!

I first saw this on a big screen in San Diego, when it was released. It still takes my breath away.
If I didn't know this, was John Barry, I'd guess it was John Barry he had a, signature in his works, somewhere in Time, scarlet letter, born free, and of course James bond. So I'd automatically assume this too. If I didn't already know. He's my most favourite composer ❤

I must have watched it at least 15 times! I was a teenager when I first saw it, now I'm in my mid fifties. It's wonderfully painful to watch it now, but I will never stop...

John Barry’s soundtrack is divine. It’s the first album I bought. I love the score and the movie to this day ❤
Film jest przepiekny ❤❤❤ oglądałam go kilka razy, za pierwszym razem wiele lat temu w kinie. Pozostawił niezapomniane wrażenia, więc chyba dlatego co jakiś czas do niego wracam. Przeczytałam także książkę na podstawie, której powstał film. Muzyka filmowa zawsze mnie urzekła, a ta w "Pożegnaniu z Afryką " jest jedną z moich ulubionych. Krajobrazy zapierają dech w piersi (przynajmniej mojej) i pomimo tego, że nigdy nie byłam na tym kontynencie, to odnoszę wrażenie, że takiej Afryki już po prostu nie ma ... pozostały piekne historie, urokliwe obrazy filmowe i ... muzyka, która je opisuje ❤❤❤.

One of the movies that I regret very much not seeing on the Big Screen.
I was lucky enough to see this at the movies. When they flew over the lake, for a moment, I did not realise they were flamingos. A split second was all it took to realise. It was the first time I literally had my breath taken away. They will play this at my funeral when I go.
@@blackmanjohn9 That's a nice idea. The score is stirring. I like the funeral scene in the movie very much as well. The reading of the poem. Just a very well done and beautiful film altogether with talented actors well cast. I haven't yet read the book, but I found a copy a few years back.
