A very well made movie, one of my favorite movies, Gary Cooper happens to one of my favorite actors. What John Wayne had to say about the way his badge was descarded was not so. Undoubtedly John didn't watch the movie. This movie is located in the White House library and has been viewed by many Presidents. Long live Gary Cooper ( Yep)
It’s interesting that my three favorite westerns-High Noon, The Searchers, and The Big Country-all end with just this kind of moment. The hero stands alone, somewhat confused, but still determined. In The Big Country, three of the major character-Jean Simmons, Greg Peck, and Charlton Heston-all face it in succession. Also, all three were made in the mid-50s, within a span of 6 years.
John Wayne hated the story of a "crying" sheriff, that was running around the town asking for help. As an answer he and director Howard Hawks filmed Rio Bravo in 1958 and the same movie two more times (El Dorado and Rio Lobo). Will Kane didn't fit in Wayne's view to the world. He called High Noon "unamerican". That's true. And don't forget: in the 50s they were hunting the so called communists with their black list. Wayne was very busy there... I was always a big Western fan and of course a fan of John Wayne. But saying that, I only mean his work in his films. He was not the guy from the neighbourhood to have a beer with...
0ne of the best Western and ranks among the all time great movies. Based on a short story, 'The Tin Star, it created a havoc with Gary Cooper playing a winning performance, lifting the Oscar, and a new-comer, Grace Kelly, whose introduction marked the arrival of a fresh Hollywood actress. It proved that a short story can play its part if the theme falls into the hands of a creative producer, who can sign a wise screenplay writer and a brilliant director. Besides, the choice of a music composer who can score a winning song for the movie. Every one who participated in making of this movie is a Oscar winner, no two-ways about it. Recall, how Satyajit Ray dealt with Satranj Ke Khiladi! Amen.
Dimitri Tiomkin saved this movie. The producers showed the film to a test audience. Their reaction was so negative, that the producers actually shelved the film, not intending to release it. Tiomkin hearing about this decision, approached the producers with an offer to buy the rights to the soundtrack and song. They agreed, once the documents were signed, Tiomkin's record company agreed to release High Noon as a single. Impressed by the success of the song, the producers then released it hoping for the best.
