Tamiya 1/48 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb- TIMELAPSE BUILD

  • A full build video of the build, painting, and weathering of my 1/48 scale Tamiya Spitfire Mk. Vb. I choose to do mine as the clipped wing option- every other spitfire has basically the same wing, so assuming I'll build a couple more in the future, I wanted one that would look a bit different.

This might just be me, but my videos only automatically open in 360p. I upload in 1080... so if it looks like AIDS be sure to change your settings on the video.

That's what I prefer, dry brushing not chipping. Tamiya's 1/32nd Spitfire kits are a piece of modeling perfection and precision. So I'm not surprised the 1/48th is so good. Mother's Plastic Headlight restoration works fantastic on canopies. Removes ANYTHING you get on the canopy and polishes them to a high shine. Nice Spit

Haven't followed one of your builds for a while... you've come a l-o-n-g way so well done for that.
Very nice techniques especially with re-applying the black & marble after the Ocean Grey - often I'm way too lazy to do the same thing. For me the chipping at the end wasn't necessary but it's you model and your choice, if you're happy then that's all that really matters, right.
Off now to look at some more of your more recent builds. All the best from New Zealand.

Nice build, the Tamiya MkVb is a great kit, I have built about 5 of theses, got to agree with you on the decals Tamiya they are always too thick is what lets the kits down better getting aftermarket decals, and I think some one else said it crowbar if fitted was not painted, also check out Eduard Zoom set for this model give you a nice Sutton Harness, head armour and instrument panel, one more thing you did a good job on the cowling seam and fuselage seam, this kit is always bad in these areas, one tip for this use thin supper glue and mix in some MIG weather powder I use a dark grey really fills the seams and with the powder mixed in you can see where you have sanded and it makes the superglue easier to sand

This has always been a fun kit to build. On your dot filtering of the upper surfaces...too many dots. Instead of random streaks, that you would want, it all just seemed to end up as an overall wash. Less is more with this technique. Nice looking Spit. in the end.

@@TheWaggishAmerican Just apply the dots near the leading edge of the wing and then streak the back towards the trailing edge. Should turn out much better.

Really nice build. 316 Squadron was a Polish RAF squadron and I have seen pictures with additional Polish insignia under some of the squadron's port exhaust, but am not sure whether it was there on every aircraft at all times. Great work on the weathering, gave some really good ideas worth applying. If you like weathering on WW2 aircraft you should try an RAAF plane, they having some of the most weathered aircraft that I have seen.

Hey I’m really getting a LOT out of this video, thank you for posting! I’m pretty new to the hobby and just got an airbrush and I’m in the very beginning of this build. What did you use to cover the cockpit before you started painting the top of the aircraft? Looks like putty but I’m unsure.

    • @TheWaggishAmerican
      @TheWaggishAmerican  2 роки тому +1

My procedure when it comes to protecting cockpits is actually a terrible bad habit that I'd really prefer not to pass on to other modelers. It works for me, kind of, because for the most part I don't super detail / photoetch / that sort of thing interiors, because if you did my method would be a surefire way to ruin all that work.
I rip off chunks of art store artificial sponge, I shove it into the cockpit cavity, and I use silly putty to fill the gaps. I have broken more than one control stick doing this.
It is much better to just use masking tape to cover the hole, and if you are not using primer (or you are spraying primer through a brush and not dumping it out of a rattlecan onto the model, like I do) then I suggest just masking and gluing your canopy into place and using the canopy as the mask for the cockpit.
If the kit comes with them I've been lately using spare canopies for masking the cockpits. This obviously only works if the kit includes multiple canopies or you intend to use an aftermarket one anyway.
I don't know if that was helpful in any way, but I hope it was.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t believe the crowbars in spitfire cockpits were painted red until 1949. I know the Mk Vb was the first spitfire to have a crowbar on board at all.

The video originally had a bunch of different british marches and such, but it was actually taken down- not monetized, totally removed- for copyright infringement. I wanted it to go out this week and couldn't figure out which song did it, so I had to use this. If you have any brit suggestions for music, let me know.

I have been on a hunt for literally months for 'decent' music. When I try something themed, people complain. When I have non-historical peaceful back tracks, people complain. When I tried music that I personally like, LOTS of people complain. Music is quickly becoming the part of this YT thing that I like the least.
Anyway for English stuff there just isn't that much music around, and everything that there is is copyright. Like I can find a billion german war marches, about specific subjects sometimes (stukas and 109's BOTH have songs dedicated to them). There just isn't that much british.
