- FULL BUILD TAMIYA SUPERMARINE SPITFIRE Mk1 (the cockpit) This video is part 1 of a series on building this kit. In this video, I'll show you the techniques I used to complete the cockpit of this great Tamiya 1/48th scale offering.
Please check out my build of the Airfix 1/72nd scale Spitfire Mk 1 build as well. • AIRFIX SPITFIRE MK 1a ...
Cheers, Scott

Bulldog models gets a mention. He really is awesome great service.
I built this kit a few months back....It's a beauty,it all fitted together beautifully.
Awesome, glad to hear it. So far so good.
How many of you have built this Gem of a kit? Let me know what you liked and disliked about it.
The magnetic photoetch really was an inconvenience. I ended up using Revell contacta instead of CA on them, that let me get the settled easier.
Welcome back my little Canadian buddy. Missed your builds. Looks amazing. 👌🏻✌🏻🇨🇦🇬🇧
Hey, thanks! More to come. Cheers!
Wonderful work on the cockpit. Can't wait to see the rest of the progress on this one.
Thanks, Vic. You and me both!😉
Looking great so far! I agree that drybrushing is still a very powerful technique that doesn’t get enough respect these days.
Yes. sir! It just has to be done with more steps to look right. The Verlinden way is not the way anymore. Thanks, Bruce!
Fantastic work. That was a really beautiful seat. Nice detail. I just ordered this kit and doing my research. Will remember the CA glue thing. Thanks.
Thank you!🍻🙂
Excellent work, impressive result
Thank you very much!
Great video! The kit looks amazing, I think I have to get it!
Thanks! It's so good!
Those gloves are interesting, what material are they? ,and where can I get them?
The brand is called "Grease Monkey" and they say Nitrile on the box. If you google it you should find a seller near you or maybe off Amazon.
Thanks
I take the brass PE over the nickel stuff anytime. I liked the fact Tamiya gave us a screen for their BT-7 but hated that it was nickel. Even after annealing it just wouldn’t bend right, at least for me.
Hey, you'll get no argument from this guy! Thanks.
Where do I get those rubber gloves?
Most hardware stores carry them. The product is called "Grease Monkey".
Did u used extra thin cement for this whole build ?
Yes… yes I did. The parts fit so incredibly well there was no need for anything else.
Dude!!! The photo etch made me fu@&ing crazy!!! Stuck to all my tweezers
Yeah I’m not a fan of the Tamiya etch but it was there and I wanted to build it straight from the box.
Brass it is for me 😊 . Maybe if you sanded this PE sheet before glueing with some very fine grit sand paper it would adhere to glue better (it worked for me few times). All cockpit area looks superb! Great job, Scott 👍
Thanks. Yeah I sanded it, I always do but something is just funky about that nickel stuff. I'm with you on the brass PE.
Anything new coming soon? I always look forward to your videos.
Thanks, Bob! That means a lot to hear this from my subscribers. It helps with the mojo boosters! Cheers.😊
tamiya photoetch isn't really photo etch that why it is magnetic. It's more like a kind of steel, like the metal earths kits
I figured as much. Thanks!😊
That looks like the most uncomfortable pilot seat to sit in.
Sure if you just sat in it without the parachute harness. They sat on the chute while flying. LOL.
I enjoyed this video, subbed.
Awesome, thank you!
Put CA glue on a small piece of wax paper to keep it from drying out.
Works but not as well.
Sure it does.
16:41 ACHTUNG!
😁
It's very detailed cockpit. No longer it doesn't looks like 1/48 scale !
Yes, pretty great for plastic. The only thing I would upgrade if I did another would be an aftermarket instrument panel and some of the fabric seat belts.
Great to watch, fun to listen to and top notch work 👍🏻👌🏻 Personally, I don’t use PE unless I’m forced to.....life’s too short...... but it should be against the law to make it in anything but brass. But then, I really am a grumpy old bugger. It’s a natural talent.
LOL, nice to see more GOB's watching. I really like PE but not the nickel stuff. Cheers!
Steel type PE that Tamiya uses sucks. But, if you anneal the whole sheet it isn't as " bouncy". Also a light sanding helps with the super glue . looking good so far...
Thanks. Yep, I know about the sanding and annealing and did both. I just don't care for the material they're using. Maybe they'll see the light eventually. Cheers!
Stubborn ol bugger here lol. I'll have my PE in brass please!
I figure there are a few of us. Brass all the way man!
@@SmallSoldier absolutely!
Got one of these in the stash. I'm not really an aircraft guy, but if you're a Brit like me, then if you don't have a model of a Spit somewhere in your house, then you should turn in your Englishman card on your way out.
Looks great, looking forward to the next vid.
Thanks, man! LOL. As a modeller, It would be a sin to not own at least one. Cheers!
Awesome work! Brass PE all the way. Also, if you go to your local fly shop, Loon brand UV fly cement is what you alluded to. Clear as glass and, hard as rock.
Thanks, Jay! Hey, I'll check that brand of UV cement out next time I'm near the fly shop. Cheers!
Excellent kit, just sand the etch and it will bond more easily. I have the older 1/72 Mk. I in the stash, hoping to get to it soon. Thanks for the video, looking forward to part 2 👍
Thanks, Jerry. Yeah, I sanded it but that seemed to make it worse. I've had issues with this nickel etch before and I think it's just not as reliable as brass. Cheers!
Great job. I'd like see this work without airbrush. Congrats from Spain.
Thanks for your comment. Cheers.
I got a hawker tempest in 1/48 for my birthday, really excited to try some of those figure painting techniques to add interest
Cool, Thanks. Good luck with your model. Cheers!
Excellent work on the cockpit. I don't have this kit but planning on picking it up soon.
Thanks! It is a great model and the overall fit and finish are superb. You won't be disappointed in any of Tamiya's latest releases. Thanks for tuning in. Cheers!
Beautiful process!!! 💯👌🏻
Thanks!😊
May i point out that the music, for me, makes the clip unwatchable
You may, although I have a great quote for you taken from Gone With The Wind. "Frankly Wim... I don't give a damn!"😆
Outstanding. Subscribed.
Now for part two...
Thanks! Welcome aboard... part 2 coming soon. Cheers!
I learn something on every one of your videos. Thanks again!
Thanks! I guess I'm doing my job right then. Cheers!
You've done a fantastic job so far, I was actually looking buy the eduard 1/48 spitfire, but you've gave me food for thought with this tamiya one. Looking forward to next video. I've never had a problem with that sort of PE though. Maybe it's a bit thick?
Thanks, Callum! The Eduard kit will be more involved than the Tamiya offering for certain, but the fit and ease of assembly is what sold me. Well it's pretty accurate as well... so there's that.
@@SmallSoldier some food for thought then! Looking forward to the next video.
@@callumboyd5122 Thanks!
I forgot to add how well the cockpit turned out. Well done, fine work.
Thank you, Scott. Cheers!
Really need to pick this kit up
Yes, it's worth every penny. Thanks for tuning in. Cheers!
You make those TINY PARTS LOOK easy!!
The more you do the easier it gets… even with my sausage fingers.😂😂
Just quit mine. The minutia get to me
Superb
Thank you! Cheers!
