- In this week's episode, Patrick and Stuart find that old water pipes have rusted through and burst in their chateau holiday rental gîte just hours before their guests are arriving. Friend Tony @notquiteachateaudiy stops by to have a go at repairing the leaks, and new discoveries are made about the location of water pipes on the estate. Patrick and Stuart also give an update on the family of barn swallows that built a nest in their carriage house workshop.

Dear Patrick and Stuart, your friendship with Tony is heartwarming. He is very enthusiastic and knowledgeable on many areas of home improvement. He’s a treasure. My home has an interior turn off valve for all exterior water spigots so they don’t freeze in the winter. I don’t know if that’s a problem for you, but where I live I turn off the valve before the first frost of the year. I love how you stopped using your saw until the little birds leave their nest. By the way, the copper pot area behind you is so lovely and French. I love the way you created that area and how it turned out. Stuart the music during the plumbing mystery and solution was perfect. It was almost like a pink panther or inspector Clouseau episode!!!! Hugs! xx

There are normally no deep frosts here. Maybe a few days of 28 degrees. We had shut off for outside water in Woodstock as well. Well, we put it in because the pipe was cracked because of the hard freezes. 😮😮😮.

Swallows are a protected bird in France, they return to their nests every year. Its great Tony was able to sort your plumbing problem.
They are protected and have decreased a lot. So this spring we were happy to cut out the chicken wire that prevented them from entering. It is funny though, that they went into the most used outbuilding. They watched us for days and decided we were OK I guess. They are still sleeping and resting in the workshop. How lucky are we! ❤❤❤

The amount of bugs that the swallow's eat are worth any discomfort/mess you have to put up with. Have a family of swallow's at work despite the anti bird strips the company put up. The plumbing looks like it was cobbled together in the late 1800's ...wow. Good luck sorting it all out. It is the one thing that still gives me sleepless nights in my own home.

Kitchen is looking great. All the vloggers I follow are lovers of brocant. I used to go to second hand shops back in the 70s in NYC. At first I thought it was junk but then I got into it. I can understand the charm of brocants.

Aloha, 😭😭😭😭😭😭, Patrick and Stuart, your hearts and souls are as huge as the Universe. I can’t stop crying, but it’s OK, my tears are joyful gratitude for experiencing this beautiful video. There was a bird nest in the shed behind my AFrame house a very long time ago in Florida. The way I found out of the bird nest is that while I was doing laundry (the washer was in the shed,) I heard some peeping, looked up and actually whittnessed the baby birds breaking out of their shells, being born🐣. It was a miraculous moment in my life.And yes, that nest was left alone and protected. True good fortune smiles upon you both. Bonne chance. Tony is an Earth Angel and a very cool one at that.

Oops, that looks sadly familiar 😢We had our burst pipe diaster in February when temps hit 30below ! We had a $500 water bill, and $400 to repair the burnt out elements in the water heater...it's always sumpthin, n'est ce pas? Love to you guys 'n dogs ❤

I am sorry for your bathroom issues, though at least you were not flooded. As a veteran of having needed three new hot water machines in my adult life, I would have been immediately suspicious if I had heard those mysterious noises! Hi Daniel. The water pipes were berries in sand and sludge… 😮😮😮. So they were always moist and the noise muffled……. I was lucky I found it. 😊. Water heater collapses sound awful. We will have to install 3 new ones over the next year….. never a dull month 😂😂😂. Hugs my friend. ❤

Dad had both while we were over seas but sold a cm stuff to others that eorked on misc things cars, trucks!
He reminded me that mfg would not spend the money to change all that to convert but sure would make things whole lot easier not likely to happen in my lifetime but maybe someday!

Perhaps you’ll find you already have a water source for your future fountain… well, I can’t picture whether “towards the road” means in the courtyard. If not that, there might be a hidden water feature (or the foundation of one) out there somewhere. A grotto by the moat might be a fun discovery. Hey, if one is going to dream, dream big! 😁

Wow those pipes were bad. Tx GOD for Tony. I was trying to shew a baby blue Jay from hopping right into the busy street where we used to live and Momma Blue Jae flew right down and pecked my behind. It hurt. So I guess she was trying to teach it to fly.
The pipes were terrifying 😅😮😅. You did a good deed and momma bluejay didn’t understand. The swallows were yelling at us too but the moment the baby was back in the workshop, and we walked to the chateau, they were all quiet again. Love your story and that you have such a good heart. Hugs ❤
