I don't know why i am always surprised that Derek Trucks NEVER EVER Runs out of Ideas with this song!! This Band has performed this tune 100's of times through the past 10+ years and you will never find an opening or a solo by Derek that is the same. His IDEAS are endless and are at the moment with no fear of making a mistake or getting lost. He is and has been for many years; a musical Genius!
He heavily leans on the main theme from Maki Madni on this intro, I've never heard him do that before(referencing a previous recording theme so explicitly) amazing
@@garymichaels7141 Derek's musical knowledge actually came from drummer; Yonrico Scott and keyboard player Kofi Burbridge, when he had his own The Derek Trucks Band. Kofi introduced Derek to Jazz, such as Be Bop, Avangard, and Organ Trio's. Yonrico introduced Derek to World, Caribbean, Island, African and Indian Music. Yes early on up until Derek was say 13/14 years old it was mainly Duane, The older blues guys, and Clapton. But i heard him at 12 and was impressed,. But then heard him again at 16 and was floored as he played very different. Then a local band i was in opened up for him at the Sebastian Beach Inn, in Melbourne Beach, Fl. Derek was 18 and it was he was light years ahead of where he was 2 years prior. He still continues to amaze me, more than any other musician. It is crazy the endless ideas in this man's head. I truly believe he is the reincarnation of Duane Allman!! I also believe this is where Duane would have taken his playing!
@@jameswaddell3348 thank you for sharing such insight. I saw the Allman Brothers Band many times. Trucks and Haynes took over the scene after Dicky Betts got booted. I really enjoyed when Dicky was with them. When Trucks & Haynes took over I felt the band never lost a beat. They remained red hot.
This song gets me every time. The band is so grounded and solid. They come out as “rock stars”. No flash and glitter just solid musicianship. And that voice ❤️❤️❤️
They're both amazing. So many others have described their musical genius better than I ever could. But what strikes me watching this performance and the same song from more than 10 years ago, is her expression when she looks over at him when he's playing. Relationship goals.
Just saw him and the band yesterday , playing this very song in a concert im my hometown Hamburg Germany . Unforgettable . It was a great 2,5 hour show
I don't remember the particulars of the live version of this song I had the privilege of hearing in 2022. I know that I will always treasure it. This version and every one I have seen on UA-cam is blow-me-away great. Wonderful band, my favorite of all time.
Derek doesn't just "see" or "feel" the fretboard, he is a part of the fretboard when he's into these solos. There is no way for anyone to copy his styling, just won't happen. Great job as always.
I'm starting to think he stands so close to the saxophone during that part of the opening to guide himself through the rest of the song. It would fit with how Derek works.
Susan's vocal on this version of the, "Midnight in Harlem," is my favorite of all time. She tells the story with so much feeling, authority and warmth applied perfectly. Love this band.
The horn just took this song to another place, nice place. Never get tired of hearing this. It's that E chord and the various alleys and ways it goes down, then the majors creep in. There's gotta be somekind of recognition in the deep part of our brain that resonates with this sound.
I was so lucky to see them in Paris this year... They did not play this wonderful song, one of the most beautiful in the world of music, ever... A little disappointment but such a happyness to hear all of their masterpieces... This music is so healthy... Better than any medicine...
I'll be in London on the 5th of November, and Glasgow on the 10th of November, and I hope they play this for my nephew in Glasgow, as the last time he saw them in London they never played it, anyway it my 65th birthday on Nov the 20th, and my treat to myself is two TTB GIGS fantastic. 🏴
OK - let me be the one to say I was there, then - and what a completely and utterly awesome concert. A lot of local players turned up, and everyone were just blown away and feeling like they’d just been taken to “Band school”. Just beautiful.
@@larrymollin4217 More Blues and Southern Rock. There's a close tie between Stevie Nicks / Tom Petty and Grace Slick / Marty Balin for royal couple of Rock. Have you heard that isolated track of Grace Slick singing White Rabbit that's been making the rounds?
I"m so looking forward to seeing TTB next week in Dublin. Such a fantastic band. Big fan for many years, never thought I'd get to see them live. Can't wait!!
@@williamgrogan Never been myself. I'm sure there's a pub nearby but as far as I know The Helix itself has a bar so we should be ok on that front. Heading up from Courtown, Co Wexford myself.
My husband played this song which introduced me to this amazing duo. I happened to be in another room when the melody started and the music touched my SOUL. I can listen to this song anytime. I was lucky enough to see them in St. Louis, MO in July and I'll hopefully never miss another show. They have really showcased what an incredible dou they are with their new album. I look forward to seeing what they accomplish next.
GREAT BAND. NEVER HAVE HEARD DEREK SING A NOTE BUT HE SURE PLAY THE GUTAR AND HIS WIFE'S VOICE IS AWESOME AND SHE CAN PLAY THE HELL OUT OF THE GUTAR. SMOOOOTH AS SMOOOOTH CAN BE
Perhaps one of the best versions I've heard them do of this song! FOR SURE, the best version of D Truck's guitar solo on this song! Just fluid and from his soul! Thanks for uploading!! I'm gonna listen to it...again!! :)
A great song may remind you or an event in your past, a view of a place you want to go, pleasing sounds that envoke a range of emoutions, tell a story that the composer wants to share or invoke a feeling that the listener had never felt or has yearned to feel. When sound, emoutions and stories come together in the terms of minutes, a great song may emerge. Here is just one example.
I saw them in Reno in August - they never performed this song and I was really disappointed . Susan looked so heavy, was wondering if she was pregnant.
I just can’t praise this band highly enough. No drama or light show. Just great singing and playing from the heart.

This comes from learning from the masters: The Allman Brothers Band.

I meant to say they don’t come as rock stars. I don’t need a light show and smoke to enjoy their great music.

Susan has one of the most soulful voices. Excellent!
When I first heard Susan without seeing her, I thought it was Bonnie Raitt. Theses two women could be sisters.
This terrific song was written by TTB member Mike Mattison.
Thanks for posting. Sound quality is great!
