I don't have a trainer or personal chef - I've lost 40 lbs from intermittent fasting and hiking every single day - age 56 no drugs - feel so good. You don't need money to do this.

I’m 66 and I’m a vegetarian. I also intermittent fast. I’m still a size 6 in pants. Gave up most all carbs and starches. No medications for me either. 👍 No trainer or chef for me. Not rich.

Good for you! And maybe you are rich, just not financially rich. To me, having the time to hike every day is a form of richness. Having the good health which allows for the ability to walk, let alone hike, is richness. I think you are so right, we don’t need money to do this, but all off us need something to help us along the way.

She used to be a customer at the café where I worked, and she was super down to earth. She always sat there and tried reading the paper while she was constantly interrupted by her then toddler. Then, they would take the city bus together, probably to his school.

@AnnaLexi I worked the afternoon shift, so I would get there at like 10 am, and she would already be there, sitting at one of the small tables by the window with her coffee and newspaper. It was a small café in the West Village of NYC called 'the Brew Bar'. I only helped her on a few occasions when she needed a refill or something. But usually, she just sat and read the paper and talked to her son, waiting for the Public City Bus. I always thought that detail about the city bus was super down to earth. Way to go Ricki Lake, I’m on a similar journey. I changed my eating habits and life style and went from 175lbs to 155lbs in the last 2-3 months. My goal is it hit 145 by my 40th birthday and stay there. Making changes like that is very hard at first but over time it becomes a new habit and gets a lot easier. My thoughts are with everyone out there struggling to make this important change in your life. As I’ve lost weight I’ve been able to fit in clothes that I haven’t worn since my 20’s. now I’m that “out of style dad” hahaha.

    • @Meriysi

      @emilycarr2983 7 місяців тому +5

@@MeriysiI went from about 170lbs to 150lbs since January. The main thing I’ve done is cut back significantly on ultra processed food. I’d say previously about 60% of my diet throughout a week was ultra-processed and now it’s closer to 20%. My diet is mainly fruits, veggies, poultry, fish, nuts, seeds, eggs, yogurt, cheese, milk, whole grains, olive oil, honey, the occasional red meat, etc. I started by choosing one meal a week (breakfast) where I’d make something fresh. After a few weeks, I started focusing on my snacks. This helped me ease into a new lifestyle rather than trying to completely change every single meal I was eating all at once. I think trying to change too much at the beginning would have been overwhelming and I don’t think I would have kept to it. I still eat ultra-processed stuff, takeout, refined sugars/flours, etc., but those things are definitely treats now and not a regular staple in my diet. I’m not sure if what I did will help you or others, but I thought I would share in case it could help.

Walking was a huge changer for me. Getting up and walking a minimum of one hour each morning and afternoon. Moving is also key to weight loss. I also drink tea with just chopped ginger in it. Ginger is known for weight loss but I just use the same cup all day with the ginger and end of day throw it out. There are also many UA-cam videos that are helpful for weight loss that only go for ten minutes so no excuses to move. Good luck.

I do the ketogenic lifestyle to manage my type two diabetes and high blood pressure. I dropped 45 lbs. in six months and got rid of two diabetic medications within two and a half months. Feel best on keto than I have felt for years. What she did with keto and intermittent fasting is completely doable. @@LadiesofPurposeTV just go on UA-cam and you will find so much on ketogenic lifestyle. I recommend you start with Dr Eric Berg, but there are so many others. Just type in "insulin resistance" and it will all be explained to you. And give yourself time to adjust, doing research, cleaning out your cupboards of all carbs and fake foods, eliminating the easiest foods first until you can finally get rid of some of the go-to comfort foods. It's a lifestyle change, not a weight loss diet that's temporary. But you will lose weight and your appetite and cravings might possibly disappear. Intermittent fasting is very helpful too.

I am so glad she pointed out her privilege. What a difference a personal chief and trainer make. I know it takes commitment but have healthy prepared meals is a game changer. It also doesn’t hurt to have a partner who is on the same journey. It is easier to eat salmon and broccoli when you aren’t watching your partner eating a burger and fries. Good luck to them both on their continued health journey.

@@krimsonedit3272- it's not - it's them going the extra mile of denying using meds - and after years, even decades of "eating right", exercising, having ones' personal chef a la Oprah & not losing weight - ALL OF A SUDDEN diet & exercise works within days. Then, having the straight face to not mention using the latest weight loss drugs available to all celebrities from the "fat" ones (101 lbs, sarcasm) to those over 300 lbs😏
Just be honest with your fans - yeah, I took the magic pill, I started losing weight, my endorphins hit the roof & I instantly felt like exercising more and felt encouraged to eat healthier.

Good for Ricki for losing that weight and doing it naturally. I too was overweight and peri-menopausal at the time. At 53 I weighed in at 204 lbs and was sedentary, sluggish and feeling the effects of being overweight my entire life. I was a hormonal mess and just fed up with my joints hurting and being winded climbing (slowly) a flight of stairs. I white knuckled it and I lost 85 plus pounds and got down to around 117 lbs without the use of medication or surgery. It is definitely harder during our menopausal years because we lose hormones that help fight fat efficiently, but it definitely can be done with the right diet and exercise regimen.
I am in better shape now at 58 than I was in my 20s and 30s.

I have 3 relatives on Ozempic.
How weight loss drugs can change your life:
      1. There is MASSIVE muscle loss - much more than without the drugs.
      2. Thyroid Caner & Pancreatitis are a thing.
      3. You really DO have to take them for life.
My sister said as soon as she stopped taking Ozempic the weight came back super fast with a vengeance - so now she’s back on it.
What would happen if some day she can’t afford these drugs any more?
There are many other considerations that
Dr. Mark Hyman covers in his videos on YT.
It’s smart to be informed before using this stuff.
Obesity has its own set of health care risks but these drugs haven’t had enough clinical trials to make me feel comfortable risking possibly even MORE side effects later.
      But that’s just me.

I don't doubt for a second that she hasn't overhauled her lifestyle but this was absolutely aided by the help of a GLP-1 medication. I mean, she looks fantastic and is proof that these meds can help people struggling with lifelong obesity get their lives back. But if folks were just honest about using GLP-1's it would help destigmatize their use.

I get what you are saying, but there seems to be ZERO reason that she would outright lie here and even mention that her doctor offered her the drug. If she were going to lie about it, she just wouldn't bring it up. Also, she's been pretty honest about very personal things for most of her life. Just really wouldn't make sense for her to choose to openly lie here.

It’s wrong & unfair to claim something about someone without proof.
