This is the most honest, intelligent and raw interview Ive ever heard from a celebrity in recent years. What a role model she's become. Kardashians, take note.
So nice to see a 52 year old woman without a facelift, fillers and botox in show biz. Married 17 years, accomplished and confident, no need for a scalpel
All these women saying she looks older than her age are exactly why women tend to hate each other. You complain about men judging you only for your looks, but you do the same thing to other women. STOP IT!

Girl, 33 is just a baby! I’m 50 & I still feel like I’m maturing & growing every day. You’ve got plenty of time. Also, one person’s opinion of what a productive life & success is, can be totally different from another person’s.

Love you Justine. You're so talented and down to earth. Such a great combination. About 20 years ago we went trick or treating to your house in Toluca Lake. You had a half black mask on and you were sitting outside. I remember how nice you were to my 5 yr. old son. And I thought the same thing then that I do now. You were and still are so beautiful, talented, down to earth, and friendly.
To this day, because of Alex teaching Mallory how to study for a test, I still know that SCUBA stands for Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus !!!! Loved Family Ties!
She is making a strong statement, taking a stand against Hollyweird. This may not be how we age, but this is how She has aged and she is showing her natural self, and is making a Great point.
She's a highly educated woman who looks awesome!! She isn't disfunctional like many child stars. You're never too old to learn. A great role-model for mature women. 💜💙 Her brother also has a great sense of humour.
Omg! You people are bullies. Saying she looks bad. Why would you want to write that. Why would you all want to tell the world how this lady looks to you. Mean words. I think she is beautiful her words are clear and she is helping people. I can’t wait to get the book.
So she's not dolling herself up with tons of makeup and hiding behind a mask. So she's not obsessing over having to have her teeth that "fake" white that everybody has to have. If she's happy embracing her 50s as a natural woman then I'm happy for her. I just turned 49 and I'm sick and tired of feeling like I have to be ashamed of my teeth because they are a tad bit yellow or feeling like I have to flat iron my naturally curly hair cause everyone has straight shiny hair. Enough already! I'm tired of all the maintenance. I'm leaving my hair Curley and walking around with a huge smile!
Janet's Planet Go girl! Enjoy your beautiful curls, be a lion 🦁 and roar! Five years ago I freed myself from chemical straighteners. Now, I'm all natural and I love my hair, I feel like it's the real me. I am comfortable with myself, if others don't like it, well, tough! Be You! 😘
That’s right! Embrace yourself! I started experiencing hair loss a few years ago and decided to just cut it off instead of opting for wigs and weaves and treatments. After that I stopped wearing makeup almost completely, with the exception of lipstick/lipgloss sometimes. I’ve never felt more beautiful. That’s me embracing myself. I can’t stand this current plastic surgery/celebrity obsessed climate that thinks everything is about nipping and tucking and fixing something to be happy with one’s self. So incredibly superficial and shallow society has become. And they’re never happy, they keep finding something else to fix. All of these comments saying she looks old are really disgusting. What about looking past her looks to her character and focusing of the content of what she’s saying and the message she’s sharing with the world. There’s much more to a person than their looks.
Leave your hair alone and only for a special occasion you can straighten it ...but your teeth you can use crest white stips it works great and I think in cosco u can get a good deal..I just get them at Wal-Mart

Please remember this is probably what 52 really looks like, a beautiful talented women, a long marriage, children and a degree @ 50. Hollywood gives us a false look at age and life. You’re amazing 🥰🥰
This is NOT what 52 really looks like unless you abused your body for years, which she did - she looks much, much older than her age and it's ridiculous if anyone thinks this is normal looking for 52.
@@MothGirl007 I agree. I believe she was/is a smoker. This is not what normal 50's looks like for many in this time. Also, she is 57 not 52. I know many women over 50 and they still look like they are in their 30's. They stay out of the sun/workout and eat healthy. It really makes a difference.
@@dianneb7316 It makes a difference for sure. I know she's 57 now, but at the time of this interview she was 52. She had a very serious eating disorder for decades and never mentions that on these shows she goes on - that is one of the main reasons she looks so old, imho.
I’m happy that more people (especially many of those I grew up admiring) are now speaking out about the behind the scenes happenings in the movie and television industry and fame. I’ve been joyed hearing their contributions and appreciate them very much. PS: i’ve always sensed that Justine Bateman is very smart. Today’s interview was no exception. :-)
I love that she isn't all botoxed and fake. I can't stand these plastic women trying to push an unrealistic body image to the youth. I can't stand shallow people who make comments about her teeth or anything about her appearance. When you're dead, rotting in the dirt, who's gonna care what you looked like. I wish people cared more about what people accomplished during their live. We've become a very, VERY shallow society.
I don't care what she looks like, I'll always be a fan. She already knows what it feels like to be super physically attractive. It's difficult to be this way on the outside when you're a deep soul on the inside...when you've got an intelligent mind.
April Dannette Gosa i know. That was the point in my comment. Justine played beautiful but ditzy Malory. In real life she was beautiful and an intelligent, deep soul. She probably doesn't mind getting more attention now for her inner beauty as she knows getting attention for outer beauty isn't all it's cracked up to be.
so true. people think that a pretty woman has it made in this world and that is so not true. often she is hated on because of her looks. it is a relief to be respected for your mind and not your appearance.
I’ve been saying this for years. Fame is such an allusion and actually a trap in a lot of ways. It makes me so sad to see so many people so obsessed with it as if it’s the means to an end and it’s not! I wish everybody happiness, health, and success, whatever that looks like to you. Lots of love
Justine hit the spot, she has such high sensibility about reality. She and her brother as her brother said had financially supported their parents at a young age. I have never seen that popular show but I will now. Computer science way to go girl on your 2 feet!
Sara Winardi I turned 53 this year and often mistaken for 35. I'm not sure what she's doing, but she doesn't look 52 and she doesn't look healthy. 50's are the new 30's. It's all about sleep, stress management, exercise, healthy food, good skin care routine, and vitamins.
Terri, I’m 35 and you definitely look a lot older then me. People are probably being nice, when they say you look thirty five. Justine looks her age, and she’s a beautiful woman both inside and out.
She is so smart and a phenomenal actress. I love how her face is real. She hasn’t succumbed to the pressure to look pulled and plastered like Meghan. I really, really hope the tide turns and more women start to reject the fillers and look like Justine.
Wow!!! I don't normally click on interviews with celebrities but since I haven't seen or heard about Justine in years I thought I would see what she's been up to and I am blown away at how grounded and well educated she is and that she has used her knowledge for such an important and timely book. We live in such a self-obsessed and self-focused world that having her voice about reality is necessary. Great interview Megyn!
Not gonna lie, I'm a little shocked at how she looks, but this also exposes the rampant use of plastic surgery in Hollywood that has created these unrealistic expectations of how people should look.
Not being mean or judge mental or petty, but I was also shocked how she looks. She looks more like early 60's than early 50's. I can still see Mallory in there but I was shocked.
People say Justine Bateman has aged looks older I think she's aged well but has lost a lot of weight of too skinny can make you look older especially on slim girls especially 40 and over I know it happens to me
Me too! I've discovered the show just last year. N im only 25 years old, but I'm so happy I got to this show!! Can't imagine my life without it anymore. And Justine is an incredibly talented actress! Really underrated, considering the fact that before family ties she didn't have any prior acting experience! C'mon.
sorry to be so off topic but does anybody know a tool to get back into an instagram account..? I was dumb lost the account password. I love any help you can give me!
pwk22 She ageing just fine, she’s just a little under weight and dehydrated. Her arms are amazing..she’s probably on of those people that take on projects and lose themselves.
I commend her for accepting aging, not easy to do for anyone, especially for those who are defined by it in the entertainment industry. Says a lot about her character and strength.
I love that she went back to school and graduated! School is always there for you when you're ready to go. Don't listen to anyone tell you it's too late. It's never too late! Go Justine! Go Bruins!
Justine Bateman is one of my favorite all time actors! She is so professional yet so humble & down to earth. Her brother Jason is one of my favorite actors as well, he appears that way to me also. They were definitely were raised the right which made them great human beings & actors! Wish more actors were like them! Btw, she looks as gorgeous as she always does!
I can’t stand this current plastic surgery/celebrity obsessed climate that thinks everything is about nipping and tucking and fixing something to be happy with one’s self. I agree with you. I think it's pretty sad that the first thing I thought after seeing her, was how she looks much older than she is. Secondly, I thought she seems very level headed, and down-to-earth. Why didn't I solely think of the latter though? Simple. I, like everyone else, am a product of my environment - which happens to be America, the most image-obsessed country in the world. Since it's creation, television has almost only shown us images of perfection (excluding the news...though I'm sure they even choose the more optically pleasing person, when possible.). These are the most successful people in our eyes. They have ridiculously large amounts of money, which seem to afford them whatever they desire. And they have the admiration of the masses, which equals respect. When added together, they have what looks to be ultimate power. And any human being who denies their attraction to power, either doesn't understand the basics of their humanity, or is simply lying. But back to the point...we see these images and equate them with power. And regardless of what they're saying or doing, the commonality between them is their image...an image of perfection. So, though it's unfortunate, it only makes sense that how someone, or something looks is of primary interest and importance to us. It's what we're subconsciously taught to value as children. To me, the crazy, nonsensical part is that once we become adults and conscious of what has established our value system, it's still very difficult to change it. It would seem that simply knowing the error of ones was would be enough to create change. But, evidently it isn't. Who knows though!?! Maybe one day, after a complete rearrangement of society, we'll have evolved into beings of higher intelligence...where we value things that actually measure the quality of each other's character...maybe. Sadly enough though, I'm quite sure I won't be around to experience it.
Well, I agree, in part. But the cold reality is in the business of acting in Hollywood looks matter and in particular youthful looks. Young and good-looking sells movies. Movies are mostly about selling a fantasy. Moviegoers want to see really beautiful people. I mean, it is a business and it's all about image. As you lose your looks to age you start losing parts and are replaced by someone younger.
For me, It’s not about the fact that she looks older, but the fact that she doesn’t look healthy. She looks like an ex crack addict...did she ever have a drug problem?
I've always been impressed by her. True beauty, style, intelligence and how she presents herself over all is very refreshing. You don't get to see to many people in show business that's quite as raw as she is and that alone is very stunning.
There's definitely a certain type of beauty that's come with the amount of confidence it takes to be oneself...especially on television. I commend her courage.
A lot of the comments here just illustrate exactly what she was talking about. Preconceived thoughts and ideas about what she "SHOULD" look and sound like based on her previous works as a teenager and a young woman and not the reality of now. I don't understand why someone would want to be famous just for the sake of it. Having your life broadcast to the world must be monumentally unsettling. No thanks.
I know a lot of people personally who are around 50 and upwards to 80 so I have a good idea of what the average 50 year old looks like age wise. Justine is not even in the ballpark.
it's interesting, her character on the show was cast as a "doofus" but in reality she's brilliant. Funny how we think a person (is) the character they play.
I would love a reunion show. Alex can bring his current wife who played Ellen and Nick and Mallory can be married. Jennifer can be a teacher or business woman and of course the parents would totally hate Trump 😃😃, OMG you guys got me wishing they would do this.
I applaud her and this conversation and hope we can have more people getting into this discussion so we can break away from the addiction. It is so terrible to revere an individual and heed every word they say just off of the strength of a made up characters actions or what we are told a person is like. #FameNotFacts
There was a point in the 80s, after Family Ties had been on for a few years, where everybody was in love with her. They wrote more scenes for her and she had such a funny way of delivering her lines. That and she was very pretty and had great hair. The combination was devastating.
That was good! Fame definitely can, and often does cause a great deal of damage (basically interrupted development) and she articulates it all so well here. Kate Spade comes to mind. A simple girl from the midwest who was not, in any way, prepared for what took over when fame/notoriety came so suddenly and so fast. It sort of robbed her of her natural development-- and somewhat unexpectedly. She wanted to leave fame behind (desperately) but, at the same time didn't know how to cope WITHOUT it. It had taken over a good part of her natural development for so long-- it became part of who she "thought" she was. I think she realized that too-- and came undone.
When I was a young girl I wanted to be a a member of the Keaton family and most of all I wanted to be Mallory; I wanted to dress like her, I wanted her hair. LOL!
It’s SO good to see her so strong and resilient and wise and ok and whole. I was such a fan of Family Ties and especially her character and I can’t wait to read her book.
Shes been through a lot in her life. She had eating disorders and body image issues. Shes doing fine. Who cares what she looks like? Shes not hurting anyone. Shes a nice woman
I just listened to Justin’s book On audible.com. I really love this book. I love the way she writes. I love her voice. I love her perspective. I love her insights. I was a huge fan of hers when I was younger. And now I am even a bigger fan of hers. I love what she has to say and I love the way she says it.
Two intelligent, successful women. Each on their own path, having chosen different gear for the journey. Appearance is just one tool in any person’s pack. Useful in certain situations. But you better have a variety of tools if you’re going to survive. And enjoy yourself along the journey. Both of these ladies are just rockin’ life with different gear (including their appearances) appropriate for their respective environments. I admire both of them. Anticipate needs and pack accordingly. May you both have long, fulfilling journeys.
I always admired your energy and self worth on growing pains . I thought of you and Kristy McNichol as my tv role models when I was a kid. Thank-you you had an amazing job and we enjoyed watching you on Growing Pains such a wholesome show!
Have not seen her and years and years! Just today someone mentioned her and told me about this interview..I am shocked..but who knows what she has gone through..
Its such a shame. The guests are interesting, the topics are relevant, but Megan is detached, analytical and robotic. She should be a news anchor. We could use less dramatic acting in the news field. On MKT I as a viewer never feel any connection between host and guest. I'm not looking for fake adoration, but real empathy and humble compassion.
We live in a time of entertainment. This is why this conversation is interesting. I do not think that Justine has the last word on the subject but she surely has made an important contribution to an interesting discussion.
She had an eating disorder for years and struggled. That definitely takes it toll on your body internally and externally (her skin). She’s in recovery now but it’s obviously aged her.
I've been a big fan of Justine's, ever since her days as Mallory Keaton on the brilliant sitcom, "Family Ties"...It's great to see, and hear, how wise, insightful, intelligent, down-to-earth, honest, and grounded she is. With all the reboots going on, I can't help but wonder if, one day, "Family Ties" will re-emerge.
@@vpayton52 True, but, also, it looks like she's not wearing any make-up, too, which, makes a big difference, appearance-wise...She's, still, beautiful, though, both inside and out.

Janet's Planet Well Said
Watch your words, for they will be the fruit you eat.
How someone looks has nothing to do with what they've contributed to this world!
A. L., physical beauty fades. Dumb is forever. True beauty comes from within and I think she’s fabulous!
What has she contributed to the world though??
@@reginafallangie2867 thank you Judge Judy 😎.
@@reginafallangie2867 - that was very well said, and it's the truth! Thank you.
A. L. No one said it did...
I’m so proud of her. Beauty AND brains.
Please remember this is probably what 52 really looks like, a beautiful talented women, a long marriage, children and a degree @ 50. Hollywood gives us a false look at age and life. You’re amazing 🥰🥰
Take a look at Jennifer Connelly she's 52 years old right now and she looks really great
This is NOT what 52 really looks like unless you abused your body for years, which she did - she looks much, much older than her age and it's ridiculous if anyone thinks this is normal looking for 52.
@@MothGirl007 probably her DNA what else could it be and I know her brother doesn't look as old as she does and they're not too far apart
We've become a very, VERY shallow society.
momo glo yess I feel the same.
I don't care what she looks like, I'll always be a fan. She already knows what it feels like to be super physically attractive. It's difficult to be this way on the outside when you're a deep soul on the inside...when you've got an intelligent mind.
Kara you can be beautiful on the outside and very deep and intelligent on the outside
Justine is still beautiful on the outside Hollywood is so age obsessed its ridiculous time marches on people age
Excuse me??....What does that mean?? I sure as heck don't see ur pic up here. I'm flabbergasted, how rude!!
so true. people think that a pretty woman has it made in this world and that is so not true. often she is hated on because of her looks. it is a relief to be respected for your mind and not your appearance.
I wondered what happened to her and I'm very pleased that she's so smart and has had a great life outside of Hollywood. She's very well spoken.
I’ve been saying this for years. Fame is such an allusion and actually a trap in a lot of ways. It makes me so sad to see so many people so obsessed with it as if it’s the means to an end and it’s not! I wish everybody happiness, health, and success, whatever that looks like to you. Lots of love
In a normal distribution of things, as all things are.. some will be the chosen ones, whether you chase it or not..
So impressed with Justine! I’m going to buy her book!
A true person.
Unaffected & not superficial 🤗
I always liked her and her brother!!!
154angel154 ...I would agree ! I think they seem very down to Earth !
154angel154 Me Too!!! I love all of Jason's movies!
And alex keaten.
I LOVE Jason!! (and all his movies, but especially his hilarious series - "Arrested Development"). So funny!! He's hilarious in interviews too.
Mallory was my favorite on the show....
She's the real deal. Glad she's out there sharing such important truths
Justine hit the spot, she has such high sensibility about reality. She and her brother as her brother said had financially supported their parents at a young age. I have never seen that popular show but I will now. Computer science way to go girl on your 2 feet!
Wow, she looks like every other everyday woman not like a regular Hollywood actress at her age. Bravo, Justine.
My sister is 52 and looks in her earlier 40s. Justine looks 65 . She abused her body
Sara Winardi sorry, I’m her age, and I don’t look like her. I
She looks 62.
What a good roll model for young girls.
Yes.
Role model but ya, I agree
cara g *role
@Cara: Parkerhouse rolls? 🙄
Needs a little mustard on that role.
I still watch Family Times online. I miss 80s shows; they were heartwarming and hilarious.
Exactly! They were a pleasure to watch and listen to. Today’s it’s all about murders and gruesome things, even in prime time, when kids are watching.
Does anybody remember that thing your mother used to say? "If you do not have anything nice to say, do not say anything at all!"
Momma Hosk exactly and my mum said Gossip stops with you don’t spread it.
I always heard, "If you don't have anything nice to say, come sit next to me". That's how it really goes I think.
My mom never said that
That motto is extinct on youtube.
My mom never said that but I do believe people that focus on people's looks are extremely shallow and pathetic
Not gonna lie, I'm a little shocked at how she looks, but this also exposes the rampant use of plastic surgery in Hollywood that has created these unrealistic expectations of how people should look.
I agree, there's clearly more to know regarding how she's aged so aggressively.
Thang Vuong ..... she truly looks like she didn't take care of herself Tom Cruise is much older than her and he looks about 40 years younger than her
But this is NOT how people should look. It should not be one extreme to another.
Aug Ust hes had work done on hos face! She just looks tired here is all
Not being mean or judge mental or petty, but I was also shocked how she looks. She looks more like early 60's than early 50's. I can still see Mallory in there but I was shocked.
Why are people so surprised that she's aged? She's in her 50's now, did you think she'd look like Mallory Keaton forever?? 🙄🙄
Shannon Ludden Maybe yes. Lol
I think she looks great! Better than most. Espically those who run out and get botox and other crazy stuff just to look a certain way.
Yes!
Regardless of how she looks , I still see her as she was in her 20's. Her voice really hasn't changed much either.
Jason has definitely aged better, though he is 3 years younger.
I love her perfect imperfections, she's gorgeous...inside and out!
People say Justine Bateman has aged looks older I think she's aged well but has lost a lot of weight of too skinny can make you look older especially on slim girls especially 40 and over I know it happens to me
Have been watching Family Ties reruns lately! Incredible show!
Me too! I've discovered the show just last year. N im only 25 years old, but I'm so happy I got to this show!! Can't imagine my life without it anymore. And Justine is an incredibly talented actress! Really underrated, considering the fact that before family ties she didn't have any prior acting experience! C'mon.
I have too; I remember it on prime time as a child going to elementary school
Great show.
sorry to be so off topic but does anybody know a tool to get back into an instagram account..?
I was dumb lost the account password. I love any help you can give me!
@Krew Avi instablaster :)
Bateman is a boss. What interesting research; l appreciate your sharing your insights.
when people talk about your looks or your body image it make you feel bad really bad. be kind to one another we are all fighting a great battle💔
Love justine bateman ❤️❤️❤️🌷🌷🌷beautiful person
She is so confident and intelligent! Love her🤗🤗
Echoing the below, it's wonderful to see confident women that don't need to have their faces cut. If you're 55, it really is okay to look 55.
We barely know what that is anymore!! I wish more actresses and models would let it happen.
pwk22 She ageing just fine, she’s just a little under weight and dehydrated. Her arms are amazing..she’s probably on of those people that take on projects and lose themselves.
I commend her for accepting aging, not easy to do for anyone, especially for those who are defined by it in the entertainment industry. Says a lot about her character and strength.
I’ve missed you Justine Bateman! I’m a huge fan & will always be...
I love that she went back to school and graduated! School is always there for you when you're ready to go. Don't listen to anyone tell you it's too late. It's never too late! Go Justine! Go Bruins!
DO YOU JUSTINE! A beautiful and smart natural woman, much RESPECT!👏
I love how candid she is ❤️

What about looking past her looks to her character and focusing of the content of what she’s saying and the message she’s sharing with the world. There’s much more to a person than their looks.
Tyari that happens even outside of Hollywood. But I guess it’s fueled by Hollywood lol
It's modern day foot binding.
And as far as old and disgusting...........Harvey Weinstein. And a man I have to see on the news every day; Drumpf.
She is very smart.
She is the only actress I ever had a crush on,she is simply gorgeous.
Finally an interview with a grown woman! And one where I didn’t want to punch Megyn Kelly! Excellent job!
She’s beautiful with the aging naturally.
Naomi Castle Amen!
She has had facial fillers and Botox. She also had implants back in the day but removed them. Not natural at all
How do you know she ever had fillers & botox & implants?
There's definitely a certain type of beauty that's come with the amount of confidence it takes to be oneself...especially on television. I commend her courage.
Kia Wade Oh sure she just a f.cking hero right? LOLOLOLOL
She is extremely intelligent. Interested to read her book.
Well said!
What a wonderful interview. She's so bright, concise and articulate. I wish her continued happiness, satisfaction and peace.
it's interesting, her character on the show was cast as a "doofus" but in reality she's brilliant. Funny how we think a person (is) the character they play.
No mask. Thank you Justine
In this age of Covid, that’s a funny comment.😂
I admire her so much, always be yourself physically and mentally. God bless her

Such a male comment lol hey dude woman age and ohhhh wait so don’t you.
She sounds very articulate but certainly not slave to make up or grooming the eye brows.
Look how gorgeous she is SANS all that ridiculous surgery!!! YOU GO GIRL!!! Sidenote, my Mom is 70 and...well yeah!!! Hats off to you Justine Dear!!!
"......my Mom is 70 and....well yeah!!!". ?? What the heck does that mean in regards to Justine's looks? LoL
When I was a young girl I wanted to be a a member of the Keaton family and most of all I wanted to be Mallory; I wanted to dress like her, I wanted her hair. LOL!
She looks great like herself! I loved her as Mallory she was so funny. She's cool
Great metaphor about the way fame seeps into one’s identity.
I rather be rich than famous.
It’s SO good to see her so strong and resilient and wise and ok and whole. I was such a fan of Family Ties and especially her character and I can’t wait to read her book.

She is or was part of the Fox News Network. I think she is a terrible host.
trixie beldon It is a celebrity gossip show. MK likes doing celebrity journalism now.
Loved her since the 80s. So great to see post success stories. Congratulations on your continued success Justine! ❤️💕❤️💕👍🏻
She looks like how everyone her age in hollywood would look without plastic surgery.
@@vpayton52 True, but, also, it looks like she's not wearing any make-up, too, which, makes a big difference, appearance-wise...She's, still, beautiful, though, both inside and out.
