Hey thanks for the video, but I feel the need to quell this whole "They're using Unity so that might be why the servers are bad" thing that always pops up when any Unity game is played by creators, and as usual, it's much more complicated than that. But as a gamedev myself, it's important to me that creators not perpetuate oversimplifications when it means bias toward any product, like a game engine. So I offer this, and I hope more creators do some research: Unity has a built-in networking system that is not made for MMOs (honestly, no off-the-shelf engine has an MMO-capable networking structure...every single one must be custom to support MMO scale), however it works fine for other networked games on a small scale. But my main point is that for *every* MMO that is serious about their product, a custom solution is needed, and the expertise to create such a thing is pretty important to be successful. It is not something a small team of new developers can easily take on. So whenever this conversation comes up about bad networking in a new MMO, I have to stress that it likely has almost nothing to do with the "game engine" (a broad term already), and everything to do with whatever solution the developer has chosen. It is possible that the developer has tried to adapt Unity's small-scale networking solution to an MMO, but literally anyone with any ounce of experience would know that's a terrible idea. So that brings me to this: I just wish people would separate the idea of an engine and a network structure, especially creators and reviewers. Game development is insanely complex and I don't expect everyone to actually understand, but I hope more folks simply choose to separate these concepts instead of incorrectly associating them, even with a "I'm not really sure how it works, but..." because even with that disclaimer, an audience often already trusts their judgement and will carry that thought to other projects or people until everyone is wrong. Anyway, sorry for the essay, but it just....always comes up. And for what it's worth, I think the Quinfall is simply a far-too-ambitious project by an inexperienced studio that is hoping their hype can bring them enough support to find someone to do it right, nothing more. And unfortunately, their passable graphics and hilariously naive claims are enough to garner just enough attention to see people's hopes rise and eventually be let down. Thanks for reading, appreciate the video.
I've never understood why people bash games for using store bought assets. If indie devs can't afford to hire a 3d designer on full time, this is the best thing? Supporting solo designers business and improving your own?
If we take into account that it is a beta, this game has a lot of potential, in the short time it has been in development it has advanced more than many other games
@AleksiJuvakka It is normalized. There's no issue using store-bought assets. It's literally why they exist. But there's definitely issues if over half your game is store-bought assets. Several issues, in fact. Especially from a hodgepodge of various, unrelated authors
@@CrackCatWantsPat It's not about reinventing the wheel or not. It's about how capable your studio is on doing their own thing and not having to rely on random strangers to supply your project with unrelated content. If you can't do that, then how TF do you expect to build a functional game in easily the most difficult to manage and maintain genre in the history of gaming and network architecture? Every 12 year old forum dweller dreams of creating an MMO until the realization sets in that they don't even know how to create Tetris and MMOs are not 1-year solo projects
@@CrackCatWantsPat Seeing this comment, I understand the sentiment. I think it's awesome how accessible game development is nowadays, and how assets can absolutely accelerate the creation of a prototype. However, there is a functional problem with using a ton of disparate asset packs, from optimization to art direction and workflow. Then, there's the marketing charade - gamers don't often know the difference between a game that looks good and a game that's even somewhat close to finished, because up until recently, a game that looked finished was near the end of its development. Now, for the purposes of growing a fanbase, a developer can skip many, many steps in the core creation of a game and present something that looks much more finished than it is. And, if the product releases in this state, its development is further jeopardized when any changes have to be made under the pressure of a public eye. Or if they ever want to change those assets - these packs aren't a "one-size-fits-all" kind of thing; each one was created with its own workflow. What could be an easy change to one asset may take multiple times as long for another, or be impossible to substitute without a skilled artist able to match. Anyway, probably way more than is warranted for the conversation, but while I agree that asset packs are a net win for game development, they really do present a horde of problems and are in no way without downsides.
Im loving it.. action cursor mode worked in SOTA.. but i like it, if the health went into negative hp you still get xp for the negative hits, you are wrong in alot of parts, its not a 2024 game its more like at 2015 mmo.. i liked SOTA so im hoping the devs get this right..
Brother i dont mean this disrespectfully but ive never in my life seen a human that looked more like a pug game seems like "mom i want new world" mom: "we have new world at home"
what about once human Jay? just launched, and seems to scratch alotta the same itches as NW did..(apart from the fps aspect) i just cant seem to find any other good mmo atm, to replace New World. so Once Human is perfect right now. and crazy is its free! i wonder if later seasons will see some monetisations aspects, or light p2w. atm all paying is cosmetic etc
First impression it looks empty ...zzzzzzzzzz.Something I said MANY years ago is that pvp never works unless it is a fully balanced setup like a fps shooter everyone same stats.Having said that in those cases liek the old Quake/Unreal games the gameplay still needs to feel intriguing and not just some giant empty space.
This kind of like Dollar Tree New World. I know it is beta but it doesn’t look like it is even close to being done. It’s nice it is a “real” game but for me I will pass.
It looks and plays like a game that has gone through 0 playtesting. And then u get the morons who say the game has "potential". Just shows the sad state of mmo-gaming.
It is a scam, still. It's a totally empty shell. There's nothing in it just written ideas. For me it wouldn't take so much time to make this "game". Because 99% of it just an empty copy paste map. I can't even tell you how fast one person could make this. But there's nothing in it. When a heavy attack deals the same damage as the light.. In reality that would take a lot of testing to balance it out. They did not even bother to add some basic value. It's totally a scam. You'll never ever see this play as new world. Because it is a scam. As soon as they put on a price tag on it and you pay for it, you'll scammed. Just remember that.
I didn't really mention the asset flip accusations....I assume many assets are bought but that by default wouldn't make a game good or bad
I'm tired.... If people want a full impressions after I've played more, let me know
@@jayoddityyes Jay. Rest up. When you have the time, do a full impressions. 😊
asset flip is alright, many games are made the same way. gamemodes on garrys mod, arma 3 gamemodes, roblox etc
I was impressed. Far better than Pax Dei and people praised that game.
Because Pax has the best building system in any game, rest of the game is mediocre though
Pax absolute garbage
i really don't get why these devs try so hard to oversell and push out overly ambitious yet severely undercooked mmos..
@@Oryyyt Because making an MMO costs millions and they need funding
@AleksiJuvakka That's an excuse. They don't even have basic skills in the game and it's an afterthought.

Just tried the beta - I like it! Sure, still needs work, but it looks great and I am just excited to play any new MMO at this point...
Any new MMO that isn't a themepark or PvP focused at least. I got zero will to try Throne and Liberty.
@@nervsouly Yeah, actually I liked Quinfall a bit better then T&L...
Hello! I played the beta and it was pretty fun! Thanks for covering this info🙂🙂🙂
Guess they'll have to wait for the "MMO Server Fix" asset pack to be released on the Unity Store 😏

THOSE SQUIRRELS WERE SOOO ANNOYING
Don't expect anything out of unity MMORPG
Didn’t know Max Verstappen doing mmo critics.
Sad thing is, I'm a Lewis fan boy
Well, call me amazed by the fact it does exist! not bad.
Devs have been very proactive rolling out lots of fixes .. its getting better each day.. it is a beta..
I think this has potential.
i wish pax dei this combat. Would be so much better
THIS GAME HONESTLY LOOKS SOLID AF
THE BOW KING WOULD POP OFF
LOL
The Gru comment killed me😂
This a sub, one time purchase or free to play?
better than pax dei 💀

The developer should just not waste time and cancel the game right now instead of just wasting everyone's time!
looks like combat from the first ashes of creation pvp test
ty
Why I can’t play he say invalid steam session id😢
hmmm... major cooldown on the skills when you change your weapon feels bad. So I guess you're suppose to just stick to one weapon?
Already changed to 30 seconds now
It’s like a janky BDO
Funny seeing so many of the same assets as Embers Adrift. Unity mmos all starting to look the same lol
Thats black desert online, in bad
Map and inventory are the same, combat looks similar
that was 100% warrior combat. the Gear tab looks the same, inventory...the monster images on the map...wtf is going on lol
If they fix the servers I’ll 100% check out this game
Brother i dont mean this disrespectfully but ive never in my life seen a human that looked more like a pug
game seems like "mom i want new world" mom: "we have new world at home"
As long as it's a cute pug I don't mind
dude, your standard is pretty low. :D
It feels like a super cheap mix of Lineage 2 and New World. Also... 10:58 Jack Sparrow? I am sure they have rights to use that lol
The real question is; will this game die faster than Pax Dei?
Pax Dei didn't survive the first 10 minutes without me being disgusted. Technically, Quinfall has already lived longer with me.
Every game that you don't play must be dead
or what about mount n blade 2 bannerlord? that might be a fun one, as NW exchange..

Pax dei is the new best mmo
Agree, Once Human is great... but the server wipes make it not a real MMO, I think... I will play both and see how it goes...
Is your character Jeff bridges? :)
MMOs nowadays go ZZZZzzzzz.. Hopefully the game gets better at release.
Copium
IM HOOOKED! I didnt expect it to be any good and im impressed, having fun so far
IMO: This looks like a New World done worse.
New World wishes it had this customisation, PVP, and world freedom. This is more of a sandbox mmorpg. Still supporting New World too.

Funny I always thought new world was the dollar tree MMO of 2022 and 23. Especially with it's tacked on combat, weapons, magic and pvp
Looks like BDO 2

I can't wait to try it, looks almost as nice as New World...
