After searching for a solution for my 2015 GMC Sierra 2500HD, I now realize that it's never going to happen for me. My truck doesn't have the base program that you need to enhance.
He needs a Steve Jobs for these types of demos. Steve Waz was the programer but he was not the best person for demonstrating the technology to the masses. As someone who enjoys tech and is knowledgeable of what goes into making it and operating it, I enjoy his demo. I don't think the average consumer would understand what he is trying to deliver here. I have 2018 accord touring. And use all the safety features daily! Even in city driving ! Works great for me! Of course even living in Napa, CA we do not have the best roads but it slows down and up accordingly and keeps in same lane if there are any ...
Great review in real time! This is proof to me that we are a long, long way from self driving cars. I am impressed that this system responds at least 50% better than stock systems, but it still didn’t catch the semi. Consumer Reports is studying this same flaw as most systems will not catch a vehicle darting into your lane from the side.
Misses one thing, "we are a long long way from it". Sounds like a typical passive-aggressive reponse of someone who doesn't want the technology to succeed but doesn't want to admit it.
@@ashton9699 - No, my response is based on actual evidence & reality. When this technology can fully drive us around WITHOUT accidents or injuries, that will be my acceptance moment.
Honda Sense LKAS in most models works from 45 mph up, so it won’t do what this system does. This was interesting and I will try to learn more about it.
She is so full of herself and didn't even see the points he was trying to make, with her ending statement "slightly better". Reminds me of that reporter (Kara Swisher) who did the cast with Elon Musk. Some people are not cut for such work. Moving on.
The Comma Three should take me to the best prime rib dinner in Vegas. The Semi-colon should avoid semi's entering my lane. The Em Dash should take me to the nearest clean restroom.
I was sympathetic braking at 0:52, and the gadget didn't even slow down for that car suspiciously edging into the intersection.. I think I'll wait for version 3..
Emme's videos are always great. The guy next to her should not be the spokesperson for the product... in my opinion. It looked like he was annoyed to show off his product... in my opinion. Than you Emme! Keep it up!
I wish you could get this with more models. It’s not supported by really anything fun, just econoboxes, which I know are the volume sellers but aren’t what I’m looking for. I’d probably pay a fortune to have one of these in an M240i.
This is great! I'm looking to buy a late model used Audi A3, but so few of them have even adaptive cruise control. My 11 year old Ford Mondeo (Fusion) even has it! But this makes it do-able.
If mainstream manufacturers adopted this system in their cars, I’d be inclined to buy their cars. Having a Comma Two hanging on my Pilot’s windshield doesn’t really appeal to me. I don’t drive a lot though... But I can see it being really useful for professional drivers in improving safety and reducing stress and fatigue.
I have the base model 2019 Kia Forte. When I emailed support, I was told that it doesn't add ACC and Lane Keeping -- as this video's description suggests. For the device to work, your car must come with those functionalities as standard -- mine doesn't. Can some please clarify?
So, car engines have a computer problem that has plagued them since the 90s. That is that they are extremely basic and not designed well, and they haven't changed much in almost 30 years. What this device/software does is attempt to interact with that car computer to make it better. That's all it does. It's basically a ginormous removeable software upgrade for the engine computer. The problem here is that the engine computer is the component actually driving the car. A good analogy is your brain and nervous system. Sure, you have legs (wheels) and a brain (this thing), but if you break your lower back, your nervous system isnt connected to it anymore, so neither is your brain. If the car computer doesn't have builtin control of/connection to steering, gas, brakes, and radar sensors, this smart "brain" device doesn't either. So, the engine's computer in the Kia Forte probably isnt connected to any sensors or the steering wheel. Therefore no assistive driving. The only way to fix that is to get aftermarket parts or get a different car
2:05 what I really want is driver attention monitoring and alerting. Why doesn't anybody sell this feature as a dashcam, with no tricky car integration at all?
Does anyone know if these work on semi-trucks? Just curious, I’m not a truck driver and not saying like ‘oh, it shouldn’t be on semi’s or it should’ I’m neutral on it, but also think it would be pretty cool if it does.
2 issues. Its $1200. I dream of trying this out. But 1200 is alot. And the other issue is it only works with vehicles that have lane keep assist and adaptive cruise.
Can’t stand when people think they are somehow being safe and stop at a red light leaving 30 feet between them and the stopped car ahead of them most of the time not allowing others to be able to make it to the turn lane to turn. People like that just assume that since they are going straight everyone must be too. You see this too when people slow to 5 mph because the light ahead is red holding back ALL traffic that only need to get a little closer to the intersection to take the turn lane! I’ve pointed this out to people that do this TWICE in recent times as a passenger.
My camry have regular mirror and regular crus control,it’s doesn’t have lane keep assist ,so does open pilot can work at least for smart cruise control?
I could be mistaken... However, when she questioned if @Honda system was engaging or not, I believe she was correct. I don't think @Honda's LKAS engages until you hit 45MPH... Just sayin'
problem with this tech is that it requires your car to basically hlf support this functionality from my understanding. basically need bunch of sensors and systems already in ur car. which i agree with in a way because it means its more aware of its surroundings however it also half defeats its purpose of adding such systems to your car.. i mean i drive a car that at an annoying age for tech.. it has ton of computers and systems to communicate and it can has electric steering system with angle sensors and all right.. can remotely shift gears and steer (sort of i cnt figure out all the functionality, but ya.. if yoru car already has cameras and sensors all around it but you lack functionality of lane keep but can could do it based on hardware and basically software toggled off which is what comma,AI basically requires to work.., i suggest first looking up hacks for your car to see if u can toggle that OEM functionality on first..maybe worth enabling those first even if it costs $200 for the mod to rework the computer toggles it my just work.. my GF has 2012 XC60 with city safe system which has cameras and sensors all around the car for low and medium speed avoidance but its toggled off in software becuse last owner didnt add the option but hardware is there. we used a modification (variou apps) to enable it and increase max speed to 75 mph and added a very experimental self driving package which requires all the hardware luckily she has and it kinda works.. kinda dimwitted but it works in predictable conditions it has saved her twice from hitting someone where leaped infront of her while she was looking away for half a second it took over..
When you drive and don't hold wheel properly there is a greater chance your reaction time will be much slower to turn FAST to avoid someone who accidentally changed line.
I wish someone would just create a universal adaptive cruise control system without any self driving features. Just accel/decel based on set speed and vehicles in front of you.
Please make this for Motortrends Truck of the Year for 2019-2020...My Ram 1500 has LCA, ACC, 360 Cam and automatic emergency braking...it should work right??
i thought the same but there are advantages for having the developer here, when they drove through the intersection and turned on the blinker. The developer probably knew that would be an issue and asked for it to be engaged again. maybe he just needs a bit more practice talking to news people.
Very awkward. “This is called a Car Harness”... “I know what a ‘car harness’ is”. We as viewers don’t need to see that. A little bit of editing could have been done.

It is a kit. It works great, but it is not an integrated feature like autopilot. The software is open source and even he does not know exactly how it performs on each car model
Ryan B It isn’t going to void your warranty. You don’t even make any modifications to the vehicle. You plug it into the connector made to plug things into.
Here's the problem, everything is ok until something unique happens - and then you need to have the situational awareness to take over... which means you might as well be driving the whole time, right?
Nope because driver fatigue (and frustration/anger in traffic jams) is much less if you don't have to keep the lane and distance. Also this (and all) still works best on highways.
Right on. This whole self-driving thing is comical. (And I've driven a Tesla X for a week.) How hard are our lives that we find driving a car difficult? It isn't. And people don't hate driving. They hate BEING in cars, in traffic, surrounded by other people in metal boxes. That's what soul-sucking, and self-driving cars won't fix that. The entire industry is a gimmick, trying to find a new application for all this extra camera and computing power that we don't need. It really is unnecessary, and kinda silly.
Wrong. What do you think pilots use autopilot for? They are still required to remain vigilant for other traffic and monitor the aircraft systems. Same is for car drivers, but the problem is the roads are already full of selfish, aggressive, inattentive drivers.
andybaldman by that same logic, we’d still be riding in horse drawn buggies or fly in biplanes. It never hurts to have innovation to simplify or improve a task.

1:25 The safe thing to do is….. wait for it! Slow down!! Fairly wild concept, I know, but hear me out. If you simply just slow down a bit in this situation, you minimize exponential risk. People who have never driven a tractor trailer do not understand what goes on with navigating those vehicles through cities. We all depend on the services that these Truckers provide, yet we are so hesitant to give them the space and time that they need and deserve. The next time you encounter a tractor trailer, a dump truck, or something of the sort, I implore you to reconsider how you drive around them. Ps: I know we are slow and it’s frustrating getting stuck behind us and having to move at our pace. Trust me, we’re going as fast as we can in the safest manner possible.
This isn't a self driving car, this is cruise control, actual self driving cars would have map data. This system is still amazing though, especially for the price.
All of the cars for sale are just level 2 autonomy. None of them stop for stop signs or stop lights on their own. A T intersection could be handled by using GPS and maps.

I really like that you cover subjects like this, Hotz is such a great guy.. Hope next model will be something more OE look like a rear view mirror integration.
Wow! You had me going there with your title. It should have read "This gadget improves your cars existing ACC and lane-keeping technology".
I would come up with: "The same auto pilot that is in Tesla that costs over 7k is available to you for a only a thousand dollars".
I think it's something he's getting wrong, he doesn't believe in marketing because he said that for him it's like fooling people and that it doesn't make it natural but the truth is that he has a system as good as the tesla one but people will trust in tesla and not in comma simply because tesla is great at marketing and comma is terrible
Just bought a 2018 Corolla with safety sense and a comma 2. Here's hoping my 100mi/day commute gets less frustrating.
How was your experience with it?
I have 2018 accord touring. And use all the safety features daily! Even in city driving ! Works great for me! Of course even living in Napa, CA we do not have the best roads but it slows down and up accordingly and keeps in same lane if there are any ...
Great review in real time! This is proof to me that we are a long, long way from self driving cars. I am impressed that this system responds at least 50% better than stock systems, but it still didn’t catch the semi. Consumer Reports is studying this same flaw as most systems will not catch a vehicle darting into your lane from the side.
Waymo has 100% self-driving cars. The major limitation is that they are geo-fenced to only work in a few locations
Laughs in Tesla
Misses one thing, "we are a long long way from it". Sounds like a typical passive-aggressive reponse of someone who doesn't want the technology to succeed but doesn't want to admit it.
@@ashton9699 - No, my response is based on actual evidence & reality. When this technology can fully drive us around WITHOUT accidents or injuries, that will be my acceptance moment.
Y'all need an easy to find list of models that give you the most bang for your buck.
Honda Sense LKAS in most models works from 45 mph up, so it won’t do what this system does. This was interesting and I will try to learn more about it.
Four years later, my new Tesla can't even match this add-on device!
I remember this guy years ago , back at it again , awesome , thanks for making life easier Technologist.
As a disabled driver this is a godsend as a drive from wheel chair vehicle is at least $50k plus cost of vehicle.
DOES IT WORK ON CHEVY MALIBU. I DIDN'T SEE CHEVY ON THE LIST IN THE HEADER. SOMEONE PLEASE RESPOND. I NEED ONE OF THESE YESTERDAY
I didn't know he was still out there
Its geohotz or something like that right? From the iphone/ps3 jailbreaks?
@@LeftOnRed117 yup
Eric Foreman sure has come a long way...
He's got to be the world's most pissed-off, abrasive CEO EVER.
Seems cool but that dude is like some 5 year old showing his Mom a cool drawing he just did.
he gives me serious quentin tarantino vibes
XDDD
What a dumb thing to say
Would you prefer another artifical ceo with his artificial marketing bullshit
Hyper-interesting! I have a very real sense that we are watching tech history in the making and it is an exciting time! P.S. I subscribed!
George is a "MadLad," by any internet standard. A creator.
Wasn’t this the guy that jail broke a PS3?
Emme's videos are always great. The guy next to her should not be the spokesperson for the product... in my opinion. It looked like he was annoyed to show off his product... in my opinion. Than you Emme! Keep it up!
I wish you could get this with more models. It’s not supported by really anything fun, just econoboxes, which I know are the volume sellers but aren’t what I’m looking for. I’d probably pay a fortune to have one of these in an M240i.
Late on the break, "...let's go ahead and put open pilot back on." lol
This is great!
I'm looking to buy a late model used Audi A3, but so few of them have even adaptive cruise control. My 11 year old Ford Mondeo (Fusion) even has it!
But this makes it do-able.
If mainstream manufacturers adopted this system in their cars, I’d be inclined to buy their cars. Having a Comma Two hanging on my Pilot’s windshield doesn’t really appeal to me. I don’t drive a lot though... But I can see it being really useful for professional drivers in improving safety and reducing stress and fatigue.
@12:22 he speaks on mounting....it still needs to read your face to know you're paying attention to the road
What a cool system! So awesome that they are offering something so simple to use and effective!
You're either a bot or bought.
@@edweiser63 lmao, people cant enjoy a good product? smh
Gahhh... I wish I was there to interview him! I have so many questions!
8:45 "You're evil, man" lol
So is is where GM is getting it’s super cruise? Is this available for the 2020 GMC 2500?
I know you should not drive and drink but people do anyway this device would help prevent accidents from happening.
They need to make this work for Lincoln MKZ hybrid
What happens if you accidentally knock the camera so it looks sideways?
TheRainHarvester Your car starts going down the road sideways.
the camera is to show u whats going on, the systems uses the car sensors built-in to the car (only certain models are compatible right now)
9:04 - that was bold man :P ... maybe Tesla saw this video to double check and quietly pushed an update :D
I would like to have a comma unit for my 2020 Chevrolet Equinox LT with convenience package II, is it in the future?
Hey @ CNET... Why hasn't CNET Cars given us an updated review of Comma 3?
Love this technology! 👍👍👍
Maximum Overdrive is slowly becoming a reality.
Can I add this to my 92 Chevy pickup? I got alot of technology in it so far I would love to add this and the Blindspot mirror detection system
Awesome. I have a late model Q7 that didn't come with radar cruise but has lane assist etc. Is this going to be problematic to add? Thanks
Does anyone know if these work on semi-trucks? Just curious, I’m not a truck driver and not saying like ‘oh, it shouldn’t be on semi’s or it should’ I’m neutral on it, but also think it would be pretty cool if it does.
8:50 .... naaah, it definitely doesn’t slow down for the turns ....muahahhahah...and I shall call him Mini Me.
He was not using autopilot when he demonstrated that, it was the car builtin cruise-control system.
The system in the video seems to work really well. Way better than in my goddamn 80k€ Mercedes.
I appreciate the attention tracking. I don’t think Tesla will do this but they absolutely should.
06:40 I am sure he is having fun driving his hellcat, you need this technology only when your car is boring.
I want to know. If my car dont have cruise control. Does it can still support this device ?
When can we expect this will be available for the Ford F150 models? I have a 2012 and I would pay $$$$ to have this!
This guy is a freaking genius
Is this the Emme, formally of TFLC!
2 issues.
If you think this is amazing, watch him actually code
Is it gonna work with 2021 SsangYong Rexton Sports or SsangYong Musso Grand?
My camry have regular mirror and regular crus control,it’s doesn’t have lane keep assist ,so does open pilot can work at least for smart cruise control?
I could be mistaken... However, when she questioned if @Honda system was engaging or not, I believe she was correct. I don't think @Honda's LKAS engages until you hit 45MPH... Just sayin'
I have an MK7.5 Golf with ACC but without lane keep so I cant get comma 2 sadly :(
Currently on the fence on getting the older model
problem with this tech is that it requires your car to basically hlf support this functionality from my understanding. basically need bunch of sensors and systems already in ur car. which i agree with in a way because it means its more aware of its surroundings however it also half defeats its purpose of adding such systems to your car.. i mean i drive a car that at an annoying age for tech.. it has ton of computers and systems to communicate and it can has electric steering system with angle sensors and all right.. can remotely shift gears and steer (sort of i cnt figure out all the functionality, but ya..
if yoru car already has cameras and sensors all around it but you lack functionality of lane keep but can could do it based on hardware and basically software toggled off which is what comma,AI basically requires to work.., i suggest first looking up hacks for your car to see if u can toggle that OEM functionality on first..maybe worth enabling those first even if it costs $200 for the mod to rework the computer toggles it my just work..
my GF has 2012 XC60 with city safe system which has cameras and sensors all around the car for low and medium speed avoidance but its toggled off in software becuse last owner didnt add the option but hardware is there. we used a modification (variou apps) to enable it and increase max speed to 75 mph and added a very experimental self driving package which requires all the hardware luckily she has and it kinda works.. kinda dimwitted but it works in predictable conditions it has saved her twice from hitting someone where leaped infront of her while she was looking away for half a second it took over..
When you drive and don't hold wheel properly there is a greater chance your reaction time will be much slower to turn FAST to avoid someone who accidentally changed line.
True.
3:19 Every Buddhist needs one of these
This dude need to hire a press person to do these things. He should be a “behind the scenes person” ONLY. Yikes.
i thought the same but there are advantages for having the developer here, when they drove through the intersection and turned on the blinker. The developer probably knew that would be an issue and asked for it to be engaged again. maybe he just needs a bit more practice talking to news people.
Very awkward. “This is called a Car Harness”... “I know what a ‘car harness’ is”. We as viewers don’t need to see that. A little bit of editing could have been done.
candlercando actually he’s calling it that specifically because it was named something else before, so they’re renaming a bunch of stuff to make it more simple for people.
Why? Beause he's smart and honest? OK, he's not acting like a typical American shallow salesman. That's why I like his style :-)
megamanxu Having details is a great thing. And having a good host reviewing is a great thing. But imagine how much smoother this ride around could have been with editing out of banter, letting the host repeat specific points and maybe a little voiceover narration. I’m sure many raw interviews go like this but we usually never know it
This guy does not endear me to the product. No doubt he knows this really well but he isn't a good product ambassador
He's the CEO lol
Its tough for smart people to tolerate all the fools
I get what you're saying but this is pretty much classic Geohot. It's how he's been way back when he released the first iPhone jailbreak, it's how he's been when he and Sony were essentially at war. Dude is talented dev and enthusiast at heart but he's never been a spokesperson.
It is a kit. It works great, but it is not an integrated feature like autopilot. The software is open source and even he does not know exactly how it performs on each car model
As soon as the warranty is out on my 2020 Camry, I’m purchasing this system. 🤤
I fail to see anything that would void a warranty. It uses the existing driver-assist system, but with its own camera and software
That logic is flawed. The benefit is to catch the odd time you get distracted. You're supposed to drive the car all the time.
I did 80mph on I880. It works perfect. Don't let the old lady tell you the difference.
I have a manual Honda Jazz/ Fit 2004. is it fair to assume that this only works with automatic cars? if not would it work in my car? thanks
So it only works with vehicles that already have assisted cruise control and lane keeping?
Don't tell insurance if it doesn't
Yes, the car has to be capable of turning the wheel, accelerate and brake. The systems also need to be reverse-engineerable, of course.
Just check the website. Lots of cars support remote control of the driving controls.
Car must have electric steering, acceleration, braking, etc. Visit comma for recommended car models.
I want this so bad, I wish is was available for my Ford Flex
You look great Emme.
Is this going to work on 2015 toyota highlander le plus and 2007 camry le . Pls advice 🙏 and pls send me link where can I buy from thus device . Because your website doesnot work .
I have a 2016 nissan Maxima SL would it work for my car??
I have a 2017 lexus is300, I just bought the comma 2, its not working, it says : dash cam mode, vehicle not recognized, can someone help ?
I'm always wondering how 'self driving cars' can come up to a T intersection with no lights and make a left turn. Or a right turn for that matter.
How come is it not compatible with Nissan Rogue? Any chance that they will update it?
