You can say what you like about Chinese firms taking over “western” business but they saved Volvo and allowed them to make exactly the kind of cars swedes make so well. Unlike GM with Saab. Volvo now make the finest interiors hands down. And their entire range look the business
You've sold me on this one, Matt...but then you do that with practically every review so I've narrowed my next chariot down to a mere 47 cars now, lol.😎👍

My dad traded in his Mercedes for a new V60 CC back in Jan. From a man who said he would never buy a Volvo, he hasn’t looked back since. Such an amazing brand transformation. Imo the germans have lost their way...just look at the new 4 series for example..!
@B I think you might actually be the head designer for BMW because that is a face only a mother could love on that 4 series. It's not bold, it's just bloody ugly & I guarantee it'll lose your employer money.
I have an S90 T6 Inscription AWD with every option and IMO it is the best car I have ever owned. I have the Mussel blue paint job with the cream colored interior. The power is fine, who needs more than 316 horsepower especially when you have the turbo charged and supercharged engine. The S90 has every safety feature available and the fact that it's a Volvo and their reputation for safety is undeniable. For anyone considering a car in the 70K plus range I urge you to test drive an S90.
This review is spot on, I think volvo cars are very underated as I've just sold my bmw x5 and bought a volvo .The build quality is up there with the best and there isnt any silly little noises coming from the car unlike my old bmw x5.
The first time I saw the S90 and V90, my immediate thought was musclecar ! I am glad to hear that they go as well as they look. Thanks for another great review.
Thanks for this review, Matt. Been watching your channel from the beginning and never even considered/knew about this car until seeing your review. But based on your review and some further research, I'm glad to say I purchased an S90 several months ago and you were absolutely spot on with this car: It has completely changed my morning commute into a relaxing affair, yet my S90 (t5 version) is still plently quick, looks great, is a rarity on any road and gets great gas mileage for a car this size. I don't think people know what they're missing!
My dad owns a D5 S60 for 19 years now. I myself got a new XC70 8 years ago and have never looked back. Amazing machines that are great for long drives, give very good mpg (for the size of cars and engines) and are extremely reliable.
I love my V90 d4 inscription. The s90 you have is the inscription pro that has the extra gadgets like heads up, camera system and blind spot. Do miss the power and handling of my 2014 BMW 535D M Sport tourer, but not much else. V90 is an excellent motorway cruiser. I average 50mpg in mine compared to 30 in the BMW and so far no faults and the BMW had lots of them once engine out to change timing chain tensioners.
I am consodering a new buy bmw 4 grand tour or v60 or v 90 , all diesels, but cant find the reliability isiues. I love driving on back roads so i am woried if volvo can fancy me here, but i have family to take with me mostly on highway. So i am scratching my head what to look for. I want some fun and good handling on curves but pleasant on long haul with boot accesable for baby cart.
Volvos may grow on you as you grow older ... I'd take a Jaguar over a Volvo any day of the week. And I know they are not as reliable, but the design, feeling, driving pleasure and provenance just make Jaguars so desirable. And the respect you get in traffic is unbeatable (as opposed to BMW, for instance, towards which hate is just pouring ...).
Another great balanced review of an underrated car often overlooked in favour of its German rivals. Matt always gives such a sensible honest review , love the Swedish at the end!
You said it all! It looks nice, it feels nice to be in, it is one of those rare examples of "Luxury" meaning "quality and purity of materials" and not just stand for the number of buttons you get and it is all in all a lovely place to be! I would definitely buy one if I could afford it!
Well done you. Most car reviewers feel they have to apologise for liking a Volvo. You have given this review an unbiased opinion on what looks as though it is a superb car & you have disregarded the badge. That's what we want from an honest reviewer, an honest review. If the car is good, you should have the courage to say so, like you have. Forget about what the people have said in the past about Volvos, mainly due to Clarkson, who actually bought a Volvo in the end. You have done a very good job with this review, so thank you. All I need now is some more cash to be able to buy one!
I replaced my 535D touring for a V90 T4 inscription. The BMW was sportier, better handling, but cost a fortune to keep on road. Miss the power but not much else. Volvo hasnt missed a beat. It's a very different car
Do that only if sportiness and driving pleasure are not high on your list. If you love BMW for what it is, you definitely won't give it up for a Volvo. I gave up my old Audi A6 for a Jaguar XF, but kept my BMW 6 Series coupé (E63, LCI), that I love as much as my Jaguar (X250, LCI).
Zs B I expect a big difference but usually I have my kids on the car or I’m up to Edinburgh on a run so maybe dynamism isn’t as key as it was. I have my track focused MX5 for the twisty stuff.
Happy to say i own a 2018 s90 Inscription pro. Its a wonderful car. Wonderfully understated and equally surprising. Im very impressed with it. Its a car that cost the same as a mondeo, with equipment levels that surpass its rivals. I love the ventilated seats and the intergrated window blinds. Clever touches.
Best mid-size luxury sedan along with the Jaguar XF and the Lexus ES 300h! Very underrated but also very comfortable and safe!! If I wasn't straightly interested in the Lexus LS 500h (the full-size sedan with the Shiatsu massage function for the back seats and a multimedia system with the blu ray player) I would probably be stuck between this and the XF! So......... It's definitely a good buy (and a bargain as well, if bought second-hand)
Not a fan of volvo . Until i had a s80t6 for around 12 months The bloody thing was fantastic all round the twin turbo just about pulled the front end off when i planted the pedal to the floor .Extremely user friendly and safety to the max .
If I ever move to the UK from Sweden, ( Whife looking at me with dreamy eyes ), you would most definitely be my "car man"/supplier! Honest and straight forward! Love this channel!
I used to work as a chauffeur for 10 years and the Volvo V70, XC70 and S80 were the best. We switched the whole fleet of 500 cars over to Mercedes and everyone started getting back problems. Can't beat the Volvo orthopedically designed seats and the interiors are such a nice place to sit. Not like other german brands which feel cold, dark and claustrophobic. The Volvo's have been the only cars that I've got out of them and started to walk away and i've kept looking back at them and said to myself, bravo Volvo. What a great car. p.s. I have just found this channel and subscribed. Great honest reviews with great detail. Thanks Nick. 10/10
These are great. I had one of the first UK cars. It was super comfortable and full of great tech. Would regularly achieve 60+ mpg. 60k miles and didn’t miss a beat.
I had an S90 from new for 4 years the same year and engine - was a brilliant car and fantastic on motorways and long journeys. I never had any interest in Volvo until that car and now I have just bought a new S60 B5 which is stunning. Great cars!
Obsessed. I love Volvos... It's a weird thing to admit I know, but they're beautifully designed, comfortable, sleek, reliable and relatively unique. This S90 is no exception.
Be careful, sounds like pipe and slippers are creeping up. Nice to see a knowledgeable car person genuinely delighted with a vehicle like us mere mortals.😊
I drive a Porsche and I am more superior than everybody else. Volvo, BMW, Ford, Mercedes, Lexus and Audi all come with free slippers, Pipe, morning paper for life and a free woolly tea pot warmer cover thing like Dot for eastenders would use. If it is not a flat six and can go around a track in speedy time why bother.
I’ve just piked up a 2017 S90, and so far very impressed and happy with it definitely one if not the best cars I’ve owned. Also the customer support I’ve had of VOLVO over the years is top notch. I brought the s90 manly looking for an estate car but the shire size of the s90 will do everything I need of it. Very happy owner..
Good balanced review as usual. A good alternative to the usual BMW, Audi, merc jag. The V90 estate model looks superb too. Owned loads of V70’s over the years. Never had any real problems with the Volvo brand.
I've got a 2008 S60 2.5T with 158k miles and still runs perfect and looks great. Wife has a 2012 S60 T5 and loves it. Beautiful car, even for 2012. Lots of tech, even then. Love Volvo's. Has a 2004 S60 T AWD a few years ago and loved it. Volvo's are great cars. Mine are thirsty but love them all the same.
Fantastic video as per usual. Love these cars, it's nice to see an executive saloon which still places it's focus on comfort rather than all out performance. Top gear style automotive journalism where every car is thrown around a track really did no favours to this segment!
I was driving a 2008 Gen 3 Volvo XC70 the other day, and there is simply nothing else like them..It literally feels like you are driving around in a lounge on wheels but where all the furniture is big and heavy, and the leather sofa is plush and moulds to your body. They are a PERFECT road trip car if you want a totally stress free journey.
@@gottliebdee263 just checking. Seemed to me (former volvo salesperson lol) that 90% of people that said "eh but its a 4 cylinder" ended up being suprised at performance. Granted its not a sports car lol but still. Just good that you actually drove the car before saying something lol
Brandon Maze Performance isn’t necessarily top of my list. Typically I drive German autos but thought I’d take a look at a Volvo to save some cash, but was surprised to find little price difference. With the exception of the Subaru boxer which whilst characterful is unfortunately unrefined there isn’t a 4 cyl on the market that is worth it to me. Once you’ve had a V6 or a V8 a 4, (especially a diesel), is an awful thing to sit behind. I’d be equally dismissive of a German 4 cylinder engine.
I took delivery of my brand new S90 Inscription Plus T4 in March and it's an absolute peach. I'm so very pleased with it. It's the first Volvo I've had since my old S80 about 11 years ago and the progress Volvo has made is astounding. I honestly can't see me replacing this car for quite a long time, and I'd struggle to figure what I'd go for next. Another new S90, probably!
Would like to know your opinion after having your car for over a year now. Pros and cons. How much have you spent in regular maintenance? Any issues covered by warranty? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Regards
@@josephwood499 Hello Joseph. I'm due to change my Volvo any day now. Here's a run down of the pros and cons. *Pros*: It's exceptionally comfortable and smooth to drive, especially when put into Eco mode. It makes effortless progress and eats up the motorway miles without hesitation. Gear changes are barely noticeable. It's also very spacious, 4 adults and luggage fit no problem. I find the infotainment system really very straight forward and easy to use (I had noted some reviewers said it was overly complicated but that just simply hasn't been my experience) and the ability to link your phone to the car and remotely open or start it is a great feature, especially in winter as it means you get into a toasty car. It feels very sure footed. It's no BMW, of course, but it can handle itself well with good body control. But I find that the driving dynamics encourage one to just have a pleasant and relaxing cruise rather than blasting about the place. I tend to drive very gently and calmly as a result. I still think it's a very good looking car, inside and out. *Cons*: Even with it always in Eco Mode and driving gently, using the stop/start etc, I struggle to get above 31 MPG in mixed driving conditions. Far off the 40-odd Volvo claim. Upon first impression, I found the car to be well screwed together. However, after 18,000 or so miles, the car is plagued with a variety of trim rattles and squeaks. One in particular, behind the dashboard, required 3 separate visits to Volvo, including them removing the whole dash, but to no avail. I was given the car back and told to let it "develop" more. I grew very tired with the level of customer service at the Volvo dealer here in Glasgow so I've just learned to live with it and the other rattles as I don't want to deal with them anymore. But they drive me mad. So much so I'm looking to change the car now. I believe this problem isn't as prevalent in the Swedish built V90's, but the S90's are built in China and I know I'm not alone in finding fit and finish issues. Lastly, and it's a small one, but whilst the infotainment system is easy to use, upon first start up of the car, it's very slow and laggy and takes a good few mins to boot up properly and get up to speed. And whilst the app is good, it isn't perfect and sometimes fails to communicate with the car randomly. Other than it's standard first service (which I had done at Voltech, a Volvo Independent Specialist here in Glasgow that I would highly recommend) I haven't had any other service costs. All-in-all it's been a good car, and I enjoy it.... If only it didn't squeak and buzz over every tiny little bump! Hope that helps.
@@ScotiaDiesel Thanks a lot for providing your feedback. I'm thinking about getting one of this cars but need to do some serious research before. I appreciate your time and honest review. Best regards
Even in its light metallic blue colour, it is a handsome car. Executive cars tend to look their best in darker shades. The S90 is a well-proportioned design. Something Volvo has done a great job on because the S90 is a big car.
Never thought I would hear a Brit talk about Systembolaget in a positive context 😁 As a Swede, I've been driving Volvos my entire life, learned to drive in a Volvo 245 tank Tack så mycket, ha det bra!
@@Allthingstech3108 And what? Jaguar and Land Rover are Indian. Opel, Vauxhall and Nissan (almost) are French. And Bentley, RR and Mini are German. Who the fuck cares?! The most important are their roots and history!
I had that same car for a month or so whilst mine was in the garage and I managed 60mpg on a 120 mile journey. On my normal commute to work of 75mi I got around 57mpg. A very refined car.
One of these, or the new v70 will be my next car. Swapped from Honda (owned most of them over 30 years) Now I have a volvo. OK its a v40 but has a 5 pot diesel and out pulls almost every other car I've owned (that included v8s and such too) Volvo certainly are understated, underrated but cool in that gentle Swedish manner! If the price of the hybrid drops enough I might spoil myself... Great review too... Nice to see some love for the swede!
Having had 3 Volvo S90s they are fantastic. People look at you differently from someone who buys a BMW or a Merc Benz. I've had momentum and inscription. I found the momentum with a few optional extras was great. I would have an Momentum D4 in saville grey with a winter pack. You get a lot of 'bang for your buck'.
Really glad to hear you rate the S90. It (or the V90, which I agree looks better) are on my list of cars to own. I have really enjoyed my pdevious 2015 530d, but change of job meant more miles and it had to go. Dabbled with a DS5 (loved the look, drove reasonably well) but it had to go as the driving position and manual made my back ache on my motorway commute. So I swapped the DS5 for a low mileage 2012 S80 with the 5-cylinder 2L D3 engine, Inscription pack and the facelifted interior. Much like the review here of the S90, the driving performance and comfort with the full Sensus system are a delight. It isn't a car for the B roads, but for my 90 mile round trip motorway commute it's just spot on.
Thanks for a great review! I agree with all your comments. My last Volvo was a 1999 V70 2.5TD (5-cyl Audi engine), a great car and eager workhorse. I’ve owned a total of 8 or 9 Volvos and have always been happy with them. The new S90 and V90 are stylish and far removed designwise from their boxy social democratic ancestors from the 80s.
I recently had a test drive in an S90 R design D5. The auto pilot is amazing and very easy to setup and understand. I had it up and running in seconds. I drove the first half of the test drive and the car drove me back to the dealership.
High Peak Autos I do! I find that it seems to hug the left side of the lane occasionally for some reason but other than that I love using it! The best MPG I've ever achieved was 57.6 over a distance of about 35 miles, so the D5 can get some pretty good economy if you try!
Got a 19plate R-Design T4 petrol, a great car bar the fuel economy (av 32.5mpg ). Loads of features as you state plus an app that allows remote engine start, to pre heat or cool the car before leaving home. Lovely on trips done a few London to Disney Paris this year and 7 hours door to door felt as fresh as a daisy on arrival. Fast enough in most situations, loads of space for all (especially rear passengers).
I worked at Volvo for a bit in 2017 and this and the XC90 are just pure class (I think the sky Atlantic adverts helped Volvos image) if I was looking for a big saloon I don’t think you can do much better really, but I know if it was my own money I’d bottle it and get some German alternative, but every time I saw one of these I’d be thinking should have got the Volvo, whilst sat in my harsh riding BM
I had a V90 D5 which I was lucky enough to drive to Scotland ( from Somerset ) and it was such a lovely drive and I was able to have the self-driving mode switched on for most of it and I managed 650mils on a tank.
Thanx for opening up the world to Volvo S90. Really a complete car. I was worried about performance, but you cleared the issue, since you spend time in many vehicles of all classes.
Funny, I've been looking at these. The finance on my Golf ends soon and Volvo are doing 0% interest on their finance at the moment. You may well have helped me make up my mind! Thank you. And another top quality video :)
Moved from BMW 640 to exactly this car. It's comfortable, economical, enough power for daily use, plenty of tech, stylish and is the ideal choice when you want a change for yet another B, M or A. I love it. Recommended.
The D5 is definitely worth the premium imo. Not for the bhp increase but more so for its responsiveness. The D5 has 'powerpulse' technology which is essentially an air compressor which always keeps the turbos spooled, reducing nearly all turbo lag, delivering more power, earlier. It really does work brilliantly. Secondly the D5 gives the car AWD opposed to the D4's fwd set up. There are also about 5x as many D4's than D5's so residuals theoretically should be better. Returning the premium you lay out initially.
Last Volvo I drove was an S60, the smaller version of the S90. Super comfy and a lovely drive. Big shame though that the D5 is now a 4 pot rather than the 5, the 5 cylinder engine gave it a nicer sound. Great car and the ideal choice for the ex SAAB driver
I like it, a great alternative to a mid range BMW or Merc, Audi, Volvo build good quality cars, nice to stand out away from the German saloons, definitely a cracking car, comfortable motorway cruiser, as you say the interior is really well kitted out.
I have a volvo and an e class amg ... strange this is I love my Volvo more .. comfort, effortless drive. Just hope they've addressed previous turning circle issues ( turn like super tankers)
Faultless, superb review Matt. I didn’t want one before seeing this ,( XF driver), now I do ! Damn you! All of Volvo’s cars are consistently excellent these days ; there’s no weak one . Thanks for enlightening us again ! 👍
I’ve been driving a T5 XC40 first edition for just over 18 months now and can confidently say that it is one of the best cars I’ve driven and being a young 64 I’ve driven a lot of cars. The technology is great ,that I pad screen is marvellous. Some say it’s dangerous to change things when you’re driving but it has voice command which works very well . The T5 is AWD so great in the snow as well and I get around 29 mpg around town . Servicing costs me around £30.00 a month for three years . All in all very happy with my Volvo, thanks for an honest review !
I totally agree. I’ve been driving my first Volvo XC40 T4 R-Design Pro for 11 months now and covered 24k miles... and I don’t think I’ll ever go back to the Germans for a daily driver. There’s just something about the way a Volvo wafts up the road, it just totally relaxes you. I’ve also got a BMW M4, and I’ve only done 2,000 miles in that because I rarely feel the need to get out of the Volvo, it just does everything so well.
In my job I move cars from people homes to car auctions and today the guy sold his 5 series and replaced with Volvo s90, given the choice I think I’d go for the Volvo but I guess it doesn’t hold its value as good as the German rivals
I’m really enjoying working through these reviews, they are excellent. I would respectfully disagree with you about buttons vs touchscreens though. I would far rather have more buttons - you eventually instinctively learn where they are so you don’t need to take your eyes off the road. Touchscreens you are forced to stare at it whilst you navigate the menus. I’m confident you can do this safely, but I really do find it breaks the flow of my driving a bit. Bring back buttons!!
Matt any chance of doing a video about what look out for when buying from a secondhand dealer ? I think with your experience in the business it would be invaluable.
It’s great to see Volvo making good looking cars again. The last S80/S60 were vile. The new s60 is a real head turner and this in the inscription pro spec is a fantastic car. Great video as ever
Great review. I’ve been looking at these for quite a while and think the D5 inscription is fab., great ride and superb interior. As you say it’s not all about 0-60 in 4 seconds and boring black German interiors. It’s nice to see Volvo being different and catering for other tastes too, although I was also looking at the VW Arteon too (with boring black interior!).
I'm after a new car.. I've narrowed it down to a Volvo S90 or a Mercedes CLS350. I love them both but really having a hard time deciding. They're both impeccable.
I think all Volvos are stylish....let's just hope the Chinese allow it to continue. (Why change a winning formula?) Ford didn't.... They set them back years... as they did everything else they polluted!
Your channel evolved so nicely and you reviews became professional. Nice one. I was thinking about byuing a S60, a small brother of s90 but finally got away with the new G20. However Volvo is a very good car indeed.
Absolutely agree with everything in your review. I have owned my S90 inscription D4 for 3 years after various BMW 5 series and Jaguar XF's. The B&W hifi is amazing as are the many safety gadgets. I have the blonde leather interior with dark blue paint and it makes the car look a million dollars - I also regularly get 50mpg if I use the EcoPro setting.
Lots of people ignore the Volvo choices but once they get one soon become hooked. I bought my first Volvo (2011 V50 R-Design) immediately I test drove it and totally love it. I’m now a convert and just chuckle to myself when people who haven’t tried one criticise them. If you know you know.
Beautiful car, I would definitely have one. Although I think I would go for the V90 if I'm honest, for the extra boot space. But if anybody wants one, be sure to buy one before Volvo start installing speed restrict ors in their new 2020 line up.
@RichJW No, it will restrict the speed to a maximum 112mph. From 2021 I think, all new cars will have them fitted by law. Big brother us watching over us, apparently.
@@justjosh11 Not a pleasing thought if your next car is a Bugatti Chiron though eh. You'll have to trailer it to the track if you really wanna DRIVE it.
Love your channel. Nobody with enough money to buy a 5 meter long guy buys a manual. Nobody cares about the sportiness. Ride comfort, electric everything, acceleration when up to speed etc
I had an S80 (2001 - Petrol). Best car I ever bought. Most comfortable car I ever bought. Juicy in town (11mpg) but could get to 40mpg on the motorways. Effortless driving even without all the assisted stuff they have now. 10years and 240k miles later and I had to say goodbye to it and didn't have the cash at the time to buy another. I'd have the S90 0r V90 in an instant. (Or Polestar 2...) Thoroughly enjoyed this review. Thanks.
@@niallburke2996 DS = Doesn't Start. I mean what do you expect from a shitroen, sorry citroen. Nah honestly I think the new ones are pretty decent if its not a diesel.... love the design of them.
@@niallburke2996 Yeah, I thought so too when I saw it in real life from the outside. But when I got a chance to look closer to the interior I felt like the car was a little bit to french so to speak.
Had the XC90 T8 for 3 years now in Vancouver (traded X5 4.4 and CL550 for it) and it has exceeded our expectations. No issues after 50k km, great quality of the interior, even in the usual areas competitors try and save with cheap plastic (think lower door panels or the boot). I have tried the XC90 T6 and I think that would be the one to go for in the gas lineup. It's hard to justify the T8's extra C$25k, even if the gas consumption is significantly better (we average 6.5 L/100km). Diesel would probably be the way to go, but they don't sell them in Canada. The other thing to note is that the T8 comes with a "digital" AWD system and air suspension. While the latter is excellent, I would prefer having a regular differential to power all 4 wheels, instead of the T8's hybrid system that uses the electric motors to power the rear and the turbo-supercharged 2.0L that powers the front wheels. In snow you can feel the computer is working hard to make the system work, but since the front wheels get 3 times more power, it really feels like a FWD car. Personally I preferred the rear biased system found in BMW as it allows for a bit more fun. One little "easter egg" however, when in Pure mode with a fully charged battery, the T8 is powered exclusively by its electric engines in the rear, turning it into a 100% rear wheel drive SUV, albeit with only about 150HP, but fun nonetheless. Overall, it has been a great experience owning it and I would highly recommend. Thanks for the honest reviews, they have been great!
Such a refreshing review, cheers Matt. I about to take ownership of my father-in-laws 2017 D4 inscription with 50k miles on it. Its in great condition and a sensible purchase in my view. Originally wanted to buy a 520 or A6, but given the price tags, compared to what you get in the S90; it's a no brainer.
I would if I could! But the thing back lights i am not a fan of.... the opinion about wishy was car... this ain't the 90's were it is for old people... xD

Thanks for watching!
Should try Mercedes GLC.
Volvo the best thats a big thing respect 🫡 amazing

Be careful. Volvos grow on you and you might never go back
I switched to Mercs. . .

I totally LOVE the new Volvo look - great review. Hope business is going well...

I’m thinking of changing my 528i for a v90, love the look of them and want the extra space
I like the V90 and having now driven this, I would say go for it
I replaced my 535D touring for a V90 T4 inscription. The BMW was sportier, better handling, but cost a fortune to keep on road. Miss the power but not much else. Volvo hasnt missed a beat. It's a very different car
Alan Simpson Thanks mate. Expecting it to be very different but will drive one first!

Which engine did you have to achieve 60+mpg?
I had an S90 from new for 4 years the same year and engine - was a brilliant car and fantastic on motorways and long journeys. I never had any interest in Volvo until that car and now I have just bought a new S60 B5 which is stunning. Great cars!

Obsessed. I love Volvos... It's a weird thing to admit I know, but they're beautifully designed, comfortable, sleek, reliable and relatively unique. This S90 is no exception.
I still have my 1997 Volvo 940 CD Classic model. It's still a luxury barge!

*Pros*:
It's exceptionally comfortable and smooth to drive, especially when put into Eco mode.
*Cons*:
Even with it always in Eco Mode and driving gently, using the stop/start etc, I struggle to get above 31 MPG in mixed driving conditions.

Don't think there ever will be a V70 again. There is a V60 now and a V90..
Yes thats right
Really glad to hear you rate the S90.
Thanks for sharing!
I recently had a test drive in an S90 R design D5. The auto pilot is amazing and very easy to setup and understand. I had it up and running in seconds. I drove the first half of the test drive and the car drove me back to the dealership.
Its amazing isn't it
I own a 2017 V90 D5 in R-Design spec and it has to be one of the nicest cars I've ever been in. It's (moderately) quick, comfortable and good looking!
Do you have the pilot assist thing too?
High Peak Autos I do! I find that it seems to hug the left side of the lane occasionally for some reason but other than that I love using it! The best MPG I've ever achieved was 57.6 over a distance of about 35 miles, so the D5 can get some pretty good economy if you try!
Haydn Fisher Yes ive noticed that too. It does like to get uncomfortably close to the curb
I worked at Volvo for a bit in 2017 and this and the XC90 are just pure class (I think the sky Atlantic adverts helped Volvos image)
if I was looking for a big saloon I don’t think you can do much better really, but I know if it was my own money I’d bottle it and get some German alternative, but every time I saw one of these I’d be thinking should have got the Volvo, whilst sat in my harsh riding BM
I had a V90 D5 which I was lucky enough to drive to Scotland ( from Somerset ) and it was such a lovely drive and I was able to have the self-driving mode switched on for most of it and I managed 650mils on a tank.
I really like those cars, understated.

Yes I can see the appeal
That BMW 6 Series though 😍
It's R-Design, not R-Sport, btw.
Volvo makes some truly exceptional cars. I think their interiors are the best in class.

Loved my V60, it was everything you said here…… changed it for a 335GT. Doubled the bhp and fun for only a few mpg difference.
In my job I move cars from people homes to car auctions and today the guy sold his 5 series and replaced with Volvo s90, given the choice I think I’d go for the Volvo but I guess it doesn’t hold its value as good as the German rivals
Which is fantastic for people like us depreciation hunters 😁
I’m really enjoying working through these reviews, they are excellent. I would respectfully disagree with you about buttons vs touchscreens though. I would far rather have more buttons - you eventually instinctively learn where they are so you don’t need to take your eyes off the road. Touchscreens you are forced to stare at it whilst you navigate the menus. I’m confident you can do this safely, but I really do find it breaks the flow of my driving a bit. Bring back buttons!!

I love the S90
When I change my S60 Ile go for a s90
Such a refreshing review, cheers Matt. I about to take ownership of my father-in-laws 2017 D4 inscription with 50k miles on it. Its in great condition and a sensible purchase in my view. Originally wanted to buy a 520 or A6, but given the price tags, compared to what you get in the S90; it's a no brainer.
Great choice!
In every man's life there will be time for a beige Volvo👌🤣
If the man lives over 60 ... 😊.
I may soon be THAT man 😏
But not just yet....
I'm 26 and it's calling me 😂
The fact the keys you just plop on top of the centre console doesnt move as you drive around is compliment to how good the ride is.
Nice car.
