    Excellent informative video. Just fixed a bottom bracket on my ancient mountain bike having watched your video. Spent more time cleaning it all up than carrying out the mechanical work!

    Very good. A review needed from my younger days when servicing my bike and later the childrens...back at it again at 72 yrs old. Gonna check in on the sealed bearing BB asly. If not too expensive may go with that. Grand sons an aggressive rider! Thanx for the tip.

    On Italian frames, the drive side fixed cup loosens counter-clockwise / regular right hand thread. This is opposite of the English style in your example

    Do you have any recommendations for tool kits that will have proper bottom bracket tools? I cant find a good kit. I also dont have much money but could save up.

      Thanks for your question. When it comes to high-quality bottom bracket tools, several well-respected brands offer durable and reliable options: Park Tool, Shimano, Pedro's, Cyclo, etc. Building up a collection of bike tools can be costly, but if you plan to regularly maintain your bikes, it's a worthwhile investment. Quality tools not only save you money in the long run but also help ensure your bike runs smoothly and lasts longer. I hope this helps🙂

    Can i install a press fit bottom bracket on a previously cup and cone frame housing?

    • @cyclemaintenanceacademy
      @cyclemaintenanceacademy  2 місяці тому

      Hi, and thanks for your comment. Great question! In general, press-fit bottom brackets are designed to be installed in frames with specific press-fit shell dimensions, while cup-and-cone style bottom brackets use threaded cups.

    Hi! I happen to have a problem, my bikes right side (the plate side) bottom bracket shell is inverted (tightens clockwise and loosens anti-clockwise, same as the other side), do you know if there are some bottom bracket cartridges compatible?

    • @cyclemaintenanceacademy
      @cyclemaintenanceacademy  Рік тому +1

      Hey Albert and thanks for your question. The only situation I know where the right and left sides of the bottom bracket are reversed is on the captains bottom bracket on the tandem where the crank is situated on the non drive side. However if your drive side bottom bracket tightens clockwise then it may undo it self after a while. If you think that the bottom bracket is incorrectly threaded then the other option is to get a threadless bottom bracket. I hope this helps and let us know how you solved it.

    I see only 9 balls in the ring in your ball bearing illustration, and I only have 9 in mine on each side. Also, on my Kent folding bike, the adjustable cup and lock are on the drive side.

    • @cyclemaintenanceacademy
      @cyclemaintenanceacademy  Рік тому

      Hi Steve, thanks for your comment. Yes, you're right there are only 9 ball bearings in each cage. In the video, I do mention that there's a place for 11 loose ball bearings on each side (without the cage). Thanks for letting us know about your 3 piece bottom bracket! Bike configurations can vary, and it's great that you've identified the adjustable cup and lock on the drive side for your Kent folding bike. If you have more questions, feel free to ask. Happy cycling!

    Can you convert this to a more modern bottom bracket? What would be compatible with it?

    • @cyclemaintenanceacademy
      @cyclemaintenanceacademy  Рік тому +3

      Hi, thanks for the comment and apologies for not getting back to you sooner. Yes, you can. As mention at the end of the video, you can convert it to a cartridge bottom bracket without replacing the cranset. You can also replace it with the external bottom bracket howerver you will need to fit a compatible crankset. I hope this helps.

    Is cup and cone style one piece crank

    • @cyclemaintenanceacademy
      @cyclemaintenanceacademy  Рік тому

      Hi, and thanks for your question. The cup and cone bottom bracket is different from a one-piece crank bottom bracket. I have a video that explains the different bottom bracket standards here: ua-cam.com/video/Wq_CfuYo2fA/v-deo.html . You can also check my video on how to service a one-piece crank bottom bracket ( also called Ashtabula bottom bracket) here: ua-cam.com/video/2gouM3NFSW0/v-deo.html . Feel free to reach out if you have any other bottom bracket or bike-related questions. 🙂
