Flipping people off is literally the only thing the original was missing
If you are 12…
It’s so BADASS😎
@@1r0zz whatever nerd
@@1r0zz Frank Sinatra's Young at Heart starts playing slowly in the background.....🤪
And rats
I REALLY want to see Grimbeard do an in depth full version review now that it’s out.
The loyalty they showed to the original style is what made me a supporter. They didn't do the rusty earth tone shit that literally every other sci-fi horror game has done in the last 15 years.
You mean they didn’t do the what the game actually looked like…?
@@1r0zz which is kinda cool. because you know: it's not the 90s anymore. I really like the colour mixed into the violence and the goofiness of it all. It still manages to convey an oppressive atmosphere maybe even because of that discrepancy. The constant theme of anachronism is even elevated because of how video gamey this thing looks. Immersion through absurdity or sth.
@@apollorainer1991
Personally what I see, is nostalgia bating of the “neon era”… kinda like fnaf security breach, but without lore to back it up.
The “goofiness”, as you say, removes the somewhat grounded and structured look of the original game, that aimed for “realism” … the worst part of it all is that to have their “synth-wave” aesthetic they had to destroy what modern game engines do better “out of the box” which is pseudo-photorealism thanks to the pbr workflow, but without any visual reworking of how the shader looks…
And that is frankly somewhat amateur-ish.
@@1r0zz Yes but it does this on purpose. That's why the panels' UI are pixelated. It's acknowledging the inherently cyberpunkiness of remaking a game like system shock. It's impossible to replicate the way it was cutting edge back then because it simply cant be cutting edge 30 years later. If you went for the same look it used to have but not stylize it you'd end up much much goofier - because you'd be trying to reject the years that have passed.
@@apollorainer1991
But a remake does not need to be “pixel perfect”. Heck, it must be far from it.
Having the same layout and gameplay is a conceptual failure (as seen in demon’s souls, mafia, and to a lesser degree in halo mcc, since at least there you can swap between them).
A proper remake needs to re-make the original core of gameplay and design into a modern (or better yet “future”) core.
While, sure, the game cannot be as “cutting edge” of the original, you can transpose it into something “new”.
The remakes that only give a graphical coat of paint (often brutalising the original art perspective) are just very expensive “hd remasters”…
The melee thing is definitely an audio thing. In the previous demo, the hits were really loud and prominent.
i played the original recently and i loved the weapon system and all the variations of ammo. also the walls would have random buttons and interactions and i loved that . plus the UI would tell you what it was. giving the space life.
Yeah, the original is dope
Seeing this upload show up in my notifications was really a shock to the system.
This is a pun related to the name of the game this video is about.
Man I remember discovering your channel in one of MandaloreGaming reviews back in the day. I've been hooked ever since. As always, a fantastic and entertaining reviewer. Thanks Grim Beard.
Finally, I can satiate my hunger for more Grimbeard
He's very tasty
Even though I never played the original and I didn't even know there was a new one in the works, I'm excited to play it when it comes out. I might even try my hand at the old ones.
good luck with that, it's brutal
a game made for gamers, not consumers
@@giampaolomannucci8281 What a cringe comment lol
@@GRA2itous call it whatever you want, it stays true
@@giampaolomannucci8281 Kinda. It's a very 90's PC game. There was no blueprint for a System Shock so everything controls like an experiment. I love it for it, to be honest.
@@giampaolomannucci8281 the original's controls were pretty brutal.
Who thought SZXC was a good idea?
Hey Grim, love your work as always. I wanted to strongly suggest the game Saturnalia. Unique presentation, well written characters, and very scary and oppressive atmosphere. You might like it.
Woah, looks neat. Never heard of this, but when things go to epic only I tend to not hear about them for a while haha. Thanks for the suggestion.
Saturnalia indeed looks like a VERY cool game. A genuine thank you for plugging it. I'd love to see @GrimBeard review it, and from the looks of it, so do a lot of other members of the GrimBeard community :D
Discovered this channel recently. Love the content, good stuff.
When it comes to the melee animations, maybe if the weapon stopped mid swing as it ''makes contact'' it would feel more physical. Vermintide nailed it, and it woooorks. (Also sounds)
"I'm gonna buy me da big soda" killed me way more than it should have
Nothing to cap off a long day of writing essays while listening to Pure Acid Hell on repeat like pogging up for a new piece of Grimbeard content!! Absolutely one of the most talented content creators on the platform! :D
Thanks for making all this amazing content. Been watching you for years now and I finally am paying you for all that entertainment. You’re worth it, dude.
Another Sunday, another quality time with Grim
Brilliant! Needed some grim this afternoon!
Thank you so much for the upload! I'm subbed to loads of channels but I always anticipate and think about when your next video will drop. I rewatch your older videos often!
Shoutout to Grim’s track Data Implant playing in bg most of the vid, it’s as pure / uncut System Shock as anything in the actual remake.
Also @grimbeard-as sick as the vocals & lyrics are, if you post an extended loop of that instrumental version, I will code to it til my ears bleed proto-reality
I enjoy the fact that you get 500+ views in 10min. Keep on doing what you do!
I also like that System Shock looks like System Shock and not System Shock 2, just like I would like a System Shock 2 remake to look like System Shock 2 and not System Shock.
System Shock.
Another Day, Another Grim Beard video, another happy boy.
Praise Grim.
I really enjoyed all the small bit in this, also the little wibble-wobble with the soda bit...very *gamer* of you
You kickass man. Keep making great stuff.
Love your content dude
I really tried playing SS1 but failed miserably. SS2 remains one of my all-time faves. So amazing.
This is the first video I watch from this channel. I gotta say there are no two ways around it, I had to subscribe.
Now I trust the community to make a mod with the original music for a second playthrough.
Completed various demo builds 7-8 times. Very hyped for the release, it's lovely.
I can't wait to play this finally, and for the full review from Grimboy. Happy days ahead.
The grimpressions intro slaps way too hard for it to be a 10sec soundbyte that's actually already in your song catalog that I somehow missed.
been waiting for this, love your content grimmy keep up the good work :)
Love the title of your songs, A God On All Fours is such an evocative image.
This is just a stepping stone for me to get a system shock 2 remake. Though I shall enjoy this immensely.
I am so excited for this
always a good day when you upload, boss
Meeeeen, I've been waiting for this game for YEARS! I can't wait to play it and see the video that it'll have inspired you!
Yo!!!! Always a pleasure to see new grim content, but also very pleased with the... grimformation you've shared with us in this video
I’ve been hyped for this for so long
I agree, I like that it isn't all clean, cold Ridley Scott vibes like the sequel. Back in the day it was very apparent that the graphical progress for 2 caused there to be quite the thematic shift. I'm pleased that NIghtdive have fully leaned into that. I like the tilt shifty chunky play brick and plasma glow thing they've got going on, accentuating the tactility of it all. Those guys do truly great work. As do you Grim.
Actually you can read some documents of system shock 2 online, at least you could some time ago, and you understand most problem with the game stem from weird directorial direction (Ken levine doing his bit?)…
Stuff like designing the gameplay to be unresponsive and slow as a hipster-ish hate to quake, forcing punitive stealth as “main mechanic” and the “last third of the game” were partially “designed “ as is…
Yo You're the best Grim keep up the work
Great Day for a vid. Can't wait for the remake.
Thank you grim!
Love this. Love YOU.
Grim; been watching your stuff for a while; I'm a fan; keep rocking on friend!
I Kickstarted this so long ago I forget exactly when; I'm so glad it's hopefully gonna turn out alright!
After only 36 years the Nightdive Remake of System Shock will be released.
Ah fuck yeah!
Another banger video Grim!
I am so excited for this remake.
Dude, song at the end was great. Brings me back to when I was in High school listening to Skinny Puppy, Ministry (their older stuff), KMFDM, Front 242, etc...
This man has strange powers I swear I'll think about him at random and bam new video posted that day
With System Shock and Robocop: Rogue City it seems that this years games are designed to satisfy my childhood nostalgia.
I would really love to see your System Shock 2 review! Keep up the great work, brother Grim!
Really hope this is finally coming out "March 2023" as the Steam page says.
Pretty sure they're placing bets over in the Kickstarter comments by this stage lmao
There's a leaked video of the final boss and ending from some beta build on UA-cam. It looks bad but it's clearly unfinished. I'm kind of amazed it's not taken down.
I just come to hear the intro and that "What is up goth gamer nation" and I can close the video. That's how good this guy is 👏
oooh yeah this is looking real good
Fuck yeah, "Data Implant" going on in the background. It took me a while to realize this wasn't in-game music.
I'm looking forward to this game quite a bit, as someone who loved the original back in the mid 90s. Unlike most remakes/sequels too, I have no worries about the game or IP in general being ruined: This is Nightdive, and Nightdive always does a great job.
With how many times they had to restart development on this game I have no faith in them to actually finish it
Been a little wishy-washy on this remake/reboot but after getting to see it a bit more in-depth here, I can confidently say I am excited for this to come out. I'd give the demo a shot myself, but my computer is a bit of a potato.
There's a point when you realize your age, when you look at a re-make like this and the reaction 'that looks pretty cool', and genuine excitement when the original shows up in all its blocky glory.
I was just thinking a couple of days ago I wanted some more Grimby content!
Had this one pre-ordered for a while
I honestly would've been happy with a "remaster" that didn't make 3D enemies, but looked more like if the devs of Selaco remade System Shock in the gzDoom engine. I'm one of those people that think full 3D models aren't always the best solution so such old games if you're looking to make a modern and definitive experience that mirrors the originals spirit and soul.
keep it up grim
I love you Grim.
Oh, this looks pretty great.
This really excites me because it means we could see a System Shock 2.
U go Grim!
Hehe, you know how to describe atmosphere. Thx a lot for that video!
I'm so happy it's finally coming out, can't fuckin wait man!
As someone who has never played the original but who has always been fascinated by it and its sequel, I have been waiting for this remake for what is probably YEARS by now!
The beauty of PC gaming is the wonderful modding community. Some god amongst men will have the original soundtrack and voice mods up in a flash
cant wait for ur system shock 2 review
hell yeah brother
Really looking forward to this, I love SS2 but never played the first one, and the enhanced edition they released has been in my backlog for years but since this is coming out, I'll just play this first and then hopefully get around to seeing how it all started.
Finally got around to playing the demo and it's been a joy. The original game was too inaccessible for me but this captures all the spirit and experience I wanted to get into in the original. Can't wait for the full release
The full game turned out great. I think they really pulled off the impossible.
Grim where have you beeeeen
Ya know Grim- may I call you Grim?- I got super excited to see you uploaded a new video and just started playing it in the back room at work. I'm nearly 29, and my coworker is stressing about being "no longer a teenager" in a few days. As I started the video and your beautiful and chaotic music came on I saw her head snap back and then sloooowwly look away.. I think I'm the weird "older" dude now...
At least she's right about the weird part lol
no, she is the older woman trying to do adulting and you're goth army. besides, it's 2020's, nobody cares. madonnas like a gazillion years old and adulting shmadulting thunberg is like what 20 and skipped school, it's just a mindset and even the kids don't have universal trends like moonboots anymore and listen to random assortation of crap from past 50 years, its' all fragmented to fuck.
hangovers gonna be bitches though. also it's hella embarrassing if you screw your life over over drinking or some hot ass when you'll be in your 40's so get that out of the way.
@lass kinn All very true hahah! xD
Yeah I don't really drink (I have vertigo a lot, so why add to it) and I've been with the same girl foe 12 years so those two parts are good to go! I have noticed that I can't stay up until 3am getting zooted and then wake up for 10am like a spring chicken tho lol
Oh snap a Grimbo upload, radical!
Just wanna say Pure Acid Hell is a fucking sick album and you deserve more listeners 🤷♂
Grimbeard disappointed the remake won't actually kill him
I hope this game actually comes out before I die
Another enjoyable video, just commenting so the algorithm recognizes my engagement.
Ahh,
Another game I'll buy and download and swear I'll play after I finish the game I'm on and the three downloaded after it.
Love the new demo! I sadly wasn’t a backer so I didn’t get the closed beta but apart from some bugs that have been reported I’ve heard good things. Loving the vending machines and the recycler. The latter reminds me of Prey 2017 though it gives you coins instead of raw material, which reminds me of similar recycling machines in a point & click adventure game called Another Code R on Wii.
I hope all animations take at least a minute to play out. It would make me happy.
I do really like the feel of the hacker in this remake. Feels more CyberPUNK than a lot of games.
as an imsim fanboy i am insanely excited for this. i love how they translated the visual style and color saturation from the pixel original and made it look so much like that in the 3d game, despite the obvious difference in fidelity. can't wait!
As someone who hasn't ever played either System Shocks, the demo makes me want to buy the remake the day it comes out.
Goth daddy and the shock of Systems? In the same video? What a time to be aliveY
Ty boss
Totally agree that physical combat needs a light impact "SHOCK" (light in fighting games) to help make that lead pipe feel visceral. ALSO THEY BROUGHT BACK THE WRENCH.
First game I have ever pre-ordered, I hope we are still getting the enhanced System Shock 2 with it. lOVE THESE GAMES.
I just know he be playin'
YES DUDE
nevermind im sad its goofy as hell and i hate it. :(
Melee attacks need a little * thud * sound when you hit and a * whip * sound when your don't, or a subtle red light flash in the enemy, something that makes it clear your attack connected. Other than that, I think it's solid.
holy shit grim, i think you should pump out more dance music! that little acid number is tasty af my dude!
Ohhh fuck yeah dude!
