- Hello Everyone and welcome to my new Watch Me edit series where I go in-depth into a High End Skin Retouching process using Adobe Photoshop CC 2021. I'll go through my entire process from healing skin blemishes, to the best frequency separation technique and how to achieve realistic results with it. I will also show you my two steps of Dodge & Burn plus colour grading.
Even though this High end skin retouching video did not start from capture one pre, I still manually go over a lot of the steps with my actions from frequency separation, to dodge and burn through to colour matching with a simple trick and finally colour grading.

I can't watch this video and not clicking a subscribe button. If I don't learn anything, at least I learned now that I can copy the "color correction, etc" in the current image to another image. I never knew I could achieve this before, so I ended up writing all the setting down and manually apply it to other images that take time and can cause the color to be inconsistent. Nice job bros!

Absolutely loved the video. To clear up the skin I tend to only use the patch tool, you’re method looks pretty good as well. My only issue was with then you were doing the frequency separation and the dodge and burn, I know it’s your process but because the photo was zoomed out and I was watching on a phone I couldn’t see where the mouse was most of the time. Otherwise though this was a retouching masterclass.
There are so many ways to do things in photoshop and thats one of the great things i love about the app. I am really sorry about the screen issue. next time i'd try to scale my desktop so they appear bigger.

Why do you add/remove particular colors from Highlights, Midtones, Shadows ?

Thanks Emmanuel. Well first of all the surrounding colours always have an influence on images. Because our eyes have a lot more dynamic range than our cameras, we see and resolve colour better. This means the cameras still need our help to interpret the colours exactly or close to what we saw on the day of the shoot.
So adding or removing colours to highlights, mid tones or shadows can be done for 2 reasons; 1. To help correct colours and make them look as natural as possible. 2. To add a stylistic effect to the image or a combination of the two reasons above

What is the difference between your Frequency Separation 16-bit and 8-bit action? If I use 16-bit on 8-bit image or vice versa, is it gonna make some significant difference to the image?
