In this video tutorial there is no single step that has been skipped regarding frequency separation.
Learn how to Create your Low frequency layer (Color Layer) and your High Frequency Layer (Texture Layer) and then blend the skin-tones using the mixture brush tool and lasso tool while retaining the original skin texture in your portraits! All the mixture brush tool settings are well stated so that you can blend or make the skin tones even while retaining the original skin texture in Photoshop.

This is great, thank you for focusing on darker skin tones. It seems most Photoshop channels always default to white or lite skin tones when showcasing a technique. I appreciate the techniques but it is so refreshing and nice to see you working on darker hues. Just a humble observation and praise. It's a big world, with human skin in lots of beautiful colors.

Brilliant! I NEVER retouch without another duplicated layer for textures. JUST IN CASE...so I would duplicate the texture layers clipping mask them, then turn the top to "normal" - working mode. Great job! I look forward to more!

In 16bit image the high frequency steps is different. Because for 16 bit the midvalue is 0 and not 128, and hence instead of substruct you need to add and you check the invert checkbox to get the desired results.
