Id definitely argue its life support mechanisms after Leto's poison damaged his lungs but didn't kill him. I think this is supported by the fact that it was only seen in Dune 2 not Dune 1, and when the Emperor's sardaukar slashes the tubes connecting him to the devices, he falls to the ground incapacitated.
In the books, he never hovered. He was poisoned by the Bene Gesserit which caused his obesity. He uses the technology to move around as if he weighed 25% of what he actually weighs. And the spheres, in my opinion, are a life support system. Could be dialysis machines that he needs since he got poisoned by Leto. Maybe also a feeding apparatus, since we never see him eat in Part 2.
The baron isnt the only one with the antigravity hovering technology. so are his soldiers, and even some of the fremen had it. Remember the scenes when they were floating up the cliff face in succession to acquire the high ground upon being snipered.
An Amateur's take here. There are two spheres and each one is unique to the other. One is larger looking more raw, exposed and volatile, much like Rabban. The other is smaller but looks more refined, much like Feyd. They look tethered like a child with balloons, or leashed like pets. Both evoke similar feelings.
There is much that the films do not explicitly point out. For example, they don't state that the reason the Spice is valuable is because it grants the space navigators prescience so that they don't crash into a planet or asteroid they can't see at faster-than-lightspeed (if I'm wrong about that someone correct me). That's left to the viewer to work out. Likewise, the balls and tubes are unexplained on purpose. If the Baron was shown getting an enema while giving instructions to a subordinate, that would be crass and not in keeping with the rest of the film. Yet the way it has been done, there is a possibility that his digestion system is being serviced in some way.
I think they do mention how spice is the most valuable substance in the first (new) Dune movie, I distinctly remember the line "that makes spice the most valuable substance in the universe"
Poisons can destroy kidneys and livers in brutal ways. Might be a form of dialysis. Would have made sense to have respiratory aid since he inhaled it. Eh, still got into the blood stream.
@@BaronFeydRauthano the black stuff he bathes in the tub is what heals the damage from the poison. He was poisoned. to counter act the poison he had to be gluttonous. Remember Jesica, and her mother, guess who poisoned him after forcing himself on her. Never F with a Benogeerit. The real meaning of this is as we think we gonna live on other planets it will change the human body because of gravity we will become like worms whit human heads just like the baron
These pheres where obviosly life support Systems... Proofed by the scene where a sardukar cutted the Connection to it and the baron imediatly started to suffer! This state of condition was a last present of leto atreides sacrafice !
Hes still ill, is notoriously overindulgent, and has a spice addiction. It's spice the orbs are spice, it's an iv, he's on stage like a hospital patient. Also the bath is spice. Honestly he's got so much spice he's starting to look wonky like one of the navigators. "Spice is a poison-so subtle, so insidious... so irreversible. It won't even kill you unless you stop taking it."
Dune book says that baron was poisoned by rev mother during him raping her and the poison was what caused him to get sick and bloat… and after awhile got so heavy that he needed the suspension to help him get around
the barons disease is from when he slept with a bene gesserit as part of their breeding program, pauls mother jessica is hthe result and the barons daughter and pauls grandfather. having to deal with the morbid act, the baron took full advantage so in revenge the bene gesserit pauls maternal grandmother, changed the chemistry in her body to disease and sicken the baron.
its extra confusing because he is using them with the massive floating seat, so it can seem like its for extra power. Also the scene in the thumbnail, he is not using the extra spheres and seems ok
@ViralKiller he doesn't always have the seat with them. When he's making the beast governor he is just floating with the spheres. The ending scene, he is just standing while the spheres are floating. A couple other times also. The only time that he doesn't have the spheres is when he is in the ooze tub, and when the sardukar cut the tubes to the spheres the baron is completely immobilized and appearing to be dying. So it makes me think that the spheres contain that oily ooze that he bathes in to recover from the poison. They should have referenced the spheres in the movie because yes, it is confusing
Star Wars and Alien is dead...200k of my subs first got disappointed by Force Awakens and quit Star Wars, and the others quit after Covenant...Romulus will suck too...so I'm stuck with 200k people who are no longer interested and UA-cam sees that as bad uploads all the time.

I noticed this happens a lot. Some movie or series comes out, I really enjoy it, and then I later realise it's a piss poor version of the original source material, that is even more impressive...examples GOT, LOTR, Hannibal
Please someone explain me why first movie was pure trash but the second movie already seen it 3 times, I cant explain but the second movie had everything. Even white boy chalamet killed it too much flow in the second movie. Im a fan now 🥹
I guess because the first movie has to establish so much, can come across a bit factual. In general, the second and third parts of a trilogy will always have more action
Could be life support to deal with the lingering effects of Leto's assassination attempt
MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY
No, they are his suspencers to make his fat a$$ mobile. Read the book
That is definitely what I was thinking because he's not using them before the second film.
That's what it is
The oil bath is also a healing solution against letos poison as well
I think he has the additional orbs in the second movie because he was poisoned in the first film.
your comment has 107 likes that is insane lol

the soldier also strikes the base of his skull damaging the device keeping him floating.
I agree
true but he seems to be doing ok in the thumbnail scene without them. I guess like a Vader/Helmet relationship

Please don't mix the original creation with seconds wannabes.
He was fat because of his purely hedonist behavior. Gobble, gobble, gobble. He had a Krispy Kreme constructed just outside his bedroom.
That'll teach him to enjoy others' lovely kitchen
Oh yeah I never considered it's to treat the poison...
*He who controls the spice, controls the universe!*
All I know is I didn't pay attention on who played Baron's character until I realized it's Stellan Skarsgård. Stellan is a hell of an actor!
Space Cocaine!
It's very obvious that it's to help him recover from the poison.
an idea that completely skipped my mind...although I did mention life support that covers it
Extra set of lungs needed due to the poison from Dr. Huei, and Leto breathing on him. His personal shield saved him from immediate death.
The baron isnt the only one with the antigravity hovering technology. so are his soldiers, and even some of the fremen had it. Remember the scenes when they were floating up the cliff face in succession to acquire the high ground upon being snipered.
