Came here for info on induction heaters, left with that plus a great technique for keeping tongs symmetrical while forging!

"But thats not the traditional way" lol
Awesome piece of equipment, i love how well it isolates your heats, i use to use induction heaters for fitting bearings on large gearboxes but yours is a bit of a step up, thanks for sharing

That is the answer to my dilemma of how to resourcefully heat and forge in bushfire season. Thank you. Even a propane forge can be a problem in Aussie summers when you melt away to oblivion...and solid fuels are out of the question due to restrictions no matter how well set up they are with ember and ash traps/filters etc. You may have just showed me the ery best way to stay productive in our stinking hot summers. Forging in the am and cleaning up in the pm.

The speed they heat up is low key terrifying. Anyone with a Prince Albert, keep your distance!

Just got one of the 15kw machines here in the US - 240v 40 amp, so presumably the 15k is a burst.
With the right coil compared to forge heating, oh my.
I make chisels and woodworking tools, but heat treat by eye (complex steels don't make for very good "cold work" woodworking tools, but file carbon level steels make an excellent chisel).
I have never had anything so easy and intuitive to use to thermally cycle plain steels and heat them so evenly outside of individual small specialty forge designs that I've had to make myself.

Hi David yea they good as long as you keep the cooling correct .watch the temp as you can see they heat the outside of the bar first .if you have any probs with them scaling up email me and i will tell you the best way to clean and fix them .any other probs like coils ect the same its always nice to help someone else .have fun and keep forging .

My goodness! What great fun, Nigel. Thank you for showing us around your exceptional shop. I would like to encourage you to look for a better microphone. My old ears have a hard time understanding with the setup that you have right now. I have subbed and look forward to much more from your chanel.

Awesome. I like how you forge two sides of the tong at the same time... neat. And I would dearly love an induction heater, but with the Aussie dollar and the freight charge from the UK it would kill it dead. Thanks for sharing.

@@NigelBarnettArtistBlacksmith Hi Nigel, Yes one can buy the cheaper online offerings locally, but I'm not sure of the quality or longevity of their units. I like the idea that you would have paired the water cooler to the units and tested the heck out of them. That would give me the confidence to stump up piles of my heard-earned clam shells.
