I used a different program to upload my video and it auto published it! Give me a few minutes to get links to the videos I mentioned in this video, thanks! I will add the info in the video description and in I cards:)
+Ayala Art. Mixed Media yes LOL! and it filed my video under "Automotive" hahaha, I need to put my default settings in my uploader if I am going to use it again:)
Honestly, I really do like the way the Spectrum Noir are sold. They come in packs of 5-6 markers of all one color different tones. It takes some time to build your collection but this way you know what markers will blend!! TFS!! Thanks for sharing these techniques, it is very helpful!
+lisamr40 I like it too because you can build your collection affordable with no duplicate markers between sets. I was bummed that my old style ones would dry out and the new one had tough to remove caps but there is always something right? :)
Don't apologise for taking too long for colouring. I enjoy watching your tutorials and reviews - they help me to decided which products to buy. I've only just discovered Promarkers through an artist who posted an art piece on Pinterest and mentioned which products she used in her art work and the outcome was amazing. Am thinking these might be a cheaper alterternative to Copics, but am still kind of hankering to get a set - one day. Thank you for sharing
I love your fun, bouncy personality! It really brightens up the video! I love this channel as I'm trying to get more professional with my art, and these tutorials help a lot! (I'm 11 by the way, and I've been drawing random doodles until I was about 10 or 10 1/2, and I'm trying out new things like blending, painting more detailed pictures, and having a go at some work on my iPad which so far have turned out quite well) My friend always brags about the drawings she does - The kind of ones that take 2 minutes - and if I carry on watching these videos, I think I can finally teach her a lesson! anyway, thanks for reading (if you have) and I KNOW that in 2016, you'll get tons more subscribers, as you totally deserve them!
hey! i'm new to your channel and i just wanted to say i love your videos, i've learned so much after just one day of being subscribed haha. i appreciate how casual you are, a lot of art channels take themselves a little too seriously! keep up the awesome work :]
I have same promarkers but last time I used them I had a horrible coloring I think thats because of the paper can you make a video about paper for promarkers and all that stuff?
I think Promarkers (only tried the bullet nib ones) are better than Copics (and I have 100+ Copic sketch pens so I know), because they don't dry speckled like Copic ink does. The color coverage is much smoother, like it came from a printer. The downside though is the pens themselves. Cheap stickers around the barrels and the stickers on the end cap only show the color numbers. And the color of the stickers is not anywhere close to the actual ink color. But the solid color of the ink on paper and the excellent blending is what makes Promarkers superior, in my opinion!
I was at Jerry's Artarama yesterday and they have a large open stock setup of these markers, but no sets yet. I picked up a few of the Brushmarkers. Haven't used them yet, except to squiggle on some paper to check out the color. I'm going to have to stamp some images and try them. I also picked up a set of Nicole brand Premiere markers - had the 55% coupon and 2 reward certificates that were going to expire. They didn't have much else in the way of marker sets (or much of anything, for that matter.) Anyway, glad to see you reviewing these.
+JeanneGS1 were the Nicole ones water or alcohol based? Let me know what you think of them, I am always looking for cheaper markers to recommend to beginners:)
+thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich Hi Lindsay, the Nicole brand ones are alcohol markers - They had two size sets; I think 12, and 24. I got the 24 set since I had the coupon and rewards - I think reg price for 24 is about $79, but I paid just under $16. They have the usual chisel tip and the "brush" type tip. I'll probably try them out tomorrow and will let you know. I'm glad to have your video to remind me of blending techniques, as I've mostly been doing the watercolor markers lately.
+thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich Hi Lindsay, They are pretty good; I'm not experienced in using alcohol markers, but I was able to blend with them. I was using a heavyweight cardstock from Spectrum. I swarched them out, and realized I was missing one bright pink marker and had an extra salmon color marker instead. I don't remember if they had open stock; they did have a 12 and 24 set. It seems from the range of colors that they tried to group colors in threes so there could be blending. I can't seem to add a picture here or I'd show the box - but I did send you one through Frugal Community Facebook message. I think it's a good set for a beginner if they can use AC Moore's 55% off coupon to get it. Just check the box right away to see if any are duplicates!
I love your videos Lindsay I learn something new alwasy!! I got myself some spectrum noir for Christmas they are wonderful! These markers look cool too. Have a Happy New Year to you and your family!!
I know this is late, but I was wondering which side of the marker paper you used. One side is very smooth, the other is rougher and will bleed. I'm not sure if W&N changed their formula for the paper that they make, but it looks like you used the smooth side? But it bled onto the other side? (I'm just a little confused as to which side I'm supposed to use)
I could never tire of you coloring, painting or whatever....your tutorials and reviews etc rock! This one is particularly good, I did invest in a few copics but somehow never really got into them. I even took a copics class and loved what I did, I guess it just is not for everyone. I find it takes too long and prefer to paint....having said that, if I did get into it I would definitely try out these markers and I think the paper may just be ok too. Thanks for sharing and inspiring!
You did it again love your videos I have the spectrum noir and the chameleon a few of the copic sets I am not the best blinder but working on it I just color in stamps but each video you do I learn just a little more I am venturing out into the water markers with the spectrum and the Tim Holtz distress markers which I find a bit easier to blend but I will keep trying till I get it right lol keep the videos coming love them all
This is a great video, as I have some promakers and was unsure how to colour with them. I was completely clueless. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. :D
I have about 5 of them and like them.. But with a little moderate use, my light blue has already ran out... After 2 months of use, so that concerns me.. I really not a hard used of my markers, but I guess I used that one the most.. Lol... Thanks for the awesome video, I do like mine and will probably purchase more of them..
+Cajun Crafters huh, that is quick, I find that the lighter colors always seem drier and i think it is due to the higher alcohol content vs color. You can email the company if you thing you have not used it enough to ri=un it dry, maybe they will send you a new marker.
Thanks.. I will probably do that.. It was really quick and the others are just fine.. I would of thought the red would of ran out first,I know I use that color a lot... Thanks for all you videos...
Love this review Lindsay. I got started with colored pencil.... so i guess i'am rather partial to them...Although your review is wonderful it just looks to take too much time and effort compared to my pencils....I do like some of your results. I just haven't seen a marker video to make me buy them.... Definitely gave you a thumbs up. Thanks a bunch! Hugs! deb
These blend nicely from what I see, I use regular nib pro markers want to try brush tip, thanks! What is the yellow you use here if you remember? Is it yellow or sunflower? Thanks
It depends on the thickness of the paper and if the pages are double sided. For double sided pages use gel pens, watercolor markers or pencils. For thick single sided pages you can use anything. Make sure you have a marker with a fine tip:)
hello Lindsay! I really enjoy your tutorials! and with this video I am one step closer to buy more promarkers. I have the set of six skintones. And here in Oslo they sell the sets of 12+blender of pastel and bright colors that you mention in your video. So by looking at your video I think I will buy them! thanks again!
+Work Reports I suggest getting a big pack of bic markits and sharpies and then buying a few shades of the paLER SHADES OF ART MARKERS FOR BLENDING. tRY A COUPLE of each brand in differnt colors (no need to duplicate, they all play nice together) and that way you can see what you might want to invest in later. No point spending big bucks on the bright colors, you can get those cheap at the office supply store in my opinion. Here is a video on blending with sharpies: ua-cam.com/video/ptCQ90YZIL8/v-deo.html
I think the tip on the marker plays the most important role. I like the bullet tip on the SN markers OK and if you have practise you can blend beautifully with them. A brush tip is easier though so Copic wins there. I think the best bargain for a high quality brush tip is Blick studio markers, they are as good as copics but cheaper. The downfall is they only have 96 colors if that is an issue. These W&N brush markers are great too. I really think it is all in the brush tip.
Based on the information that the stamp kit used was by Stampendous (Thanks for that info) I tried to find out who the artist was who created this lovely set. It took a lot of doing, going through guessing what the set might be called, various Pinterest pins, etc. to actually find the kit. It's called Bird Blossom and the artist is Fran Seiford. I love your videos and always learn from them. I'm hoping that you will tell us all the materials you use even if you are reviewing a different product. Thank you
Great video! To bad the price has to go up on an established product. The Copic Caio is in the $5.00 range and when Jo Ann's has them on sale they are even cheaper. Thanks for your demo and I hope you and you family had a great New Year!
I have 30 of the letraset Promarkers, they're easily over 12 years old. I just grabbed them again after not using them for 8 years and they're just as good as they were when I first bought them.
+PaintNCreate this set if from Stampendous, I get them from craft stores as well as directly from companies online, Joann online has a great selection of tons of brands and they go on sale 40% off often with free shipping, can't beat it!
+dylan davies really? For the set of 24 markers in a case? That sounds like the price for 12, usually we get a much better price in the states which is weird since they are made in the UK
+thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich yeah I saw them for that price online at a store called art discount.com they do ship abroad but I don't know whether it would work out cheaper for people who may want to spend less?
If it wasn't for your videos (specifically your watercolor ones), I would probably be failing my art class now! And also, do you have any advice on using pastels?
I don't use the few alcohol markers I have. I much prefer the Prismacolor pencils and I blend with gamsol....or my Tombow markers that blend with water. Old school I guess.
Hey, I'm not a stamper but I still watch ;) lol Tho I am currently dipping my toes into cheap clear stamps and im currently checking out these distress inks :)
Woah thanks for the heads up I was saving to get the whole set of promarkers XD (yes I would use ALL the colours) ... they're most likely out of my price range now though :C
+Marie Thomas shop around, I often fins that sites like Jerry's Artarama sell then for half of list price, especially when they first come out, use coupons too! I always google for coupon codes (retailmenot usually has the ones I want) before shopping!
+Marie Thomas ...just found letaset promarkers on ebay for much less...ships from UK, don't know if these are the ones Lindsay was talking about but maybe someone there is selling them out before stocking the Winsor Newton brand?
I'll continue saving for now and come back to this because after giving it thought they might be worth a little bit more. but I'll need to test some stuff I heard a rumor that the recent (2014/15) letraset promarkers have halved the reserve in the barrel, I have some really old ones left so I might get a hold of a current stock letraset and then get a winsor one.... and open them up and have a look at what I'm actually getting before I make a decision.
The way you use that brush nib makes me cringe; you are rough one- maybe I'm using it wrong. I don't know 😜. But I finesse stroke brushes, Stroke at a 30• all round. Very sweet very informative thank you so much.

Are they more sizes of the bleed proof paper?

I bought fistfuls of these markers on clearance for $1.24 each about 5 years ago and they didn't get used. I just checked and they're still juicy!
Nice!

what markers would you recommend for the grown up coloring books? I got some nice ones for Christmas and I don't want to ruin them
It depends on the thickness of the paper and if the pages are double sided. For double sided pages use gel pens, watercolor markers or pencils. For thick single sided pages you can use anything. Make sure you have a marker with a fine tip:)
+thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich And put a paper between the coloring pages. It will prevent bleed through and dents on the underlying page.
Thanks for showing all the different blending techniques! I usually just go from light to dark so you've opened my eyes to different methods! 😀

You might want to cuz I think they may be discontinued! The muted and pastel sets were my faves!
Thanks a lot for your reply! So how old is your oldest watercolor paper that is still working?

pigment markers are alcohol? you seem to use the terms interchangeably

The way you use that brush nib makes me cringe; you are rough one- maybe I'm using it wrong. I don't know 😜. But I finesse stroke brushes, Stroke at a 30• all round. Very sweet very informative thank you so much.
It's meant to flex. The neoprene nibs are more expressive and rugged compared to fiber tips.
You can get cheep markers on amazon.
Thank you for the demo. Do Americans stop for breath when they talk haaa, just joking. Thanks for your help
Amazing
I like the bird.
