A rare memory for me ...
I first saw this on a light day in History Class at my High School ... probably around 1987. My friends and I had a blast playing out some of these different characters (or was that mostly me).
Anyhoo...It's rare...WAY out of print... and now it's on UA-cam at the best quality a composite video connection will muster on an old VCR. :-)
I wish you lots of laughs.

I watched Ernest Goes To Jail today with my 7 year old and after it was over he asked if there were any recent Ernest movies. I had to tell him that the guy playing him died 20 years ago and he began to cry...broke my heart. Just shows you the power of just how awesome this character was/is. I’ve been on an Ernest binge all day now.

I remember the death of the great Jim Varney like it was yesterday. I think because I grew up with E goes to camp, Jail, Saves Christmas, Scared Stupid, etc. and cherished each movie in its own way, his death literally became a memory that I see in exact detail. . .like where I was when Kurt Cobain was killed, or when the 9/11 insanity took place. I pulled over on my way to work as it came over the radio that he had died, and sat on the side of the highway thinking of how much his work had meant to me as a child. It was harmless. Decent. Southern. and therefore get's mocked by those who don't get it, but is adored by those smart enough to enjoy the stupidity of Ernest. We miss you Jim.

28:10-28:19: Aleda Lea Pope (September 14, 1946-February 3, 1985). She would have been 74 years old today. She was featured in a Patsy Cline movie which was her second film. She died before the movie came out. This was her first movie in this. Rest in Peace.

We lost him on March 13 to lung/liver cancer. He was a great man of God, and I will always love him not only for raising me and my sister on this, but his great personality and content of character.

When Varney did the old man in the cabin it reminded me of Karl from Sling Blade with Billy Bob Thornton. I'm not saying Billy Bob stole his voice or anything like that but it's just like King Solomon said "What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun." Jim Varney was outstanding! I saw a clip with him and Robin Williams and they were going toe-to-toe with the improvs.

I used to have this on VHS but lost it over the years. I woke up this morning and started thinking about how much I used to laugh at Billie Boogie Worrell and said to myself,"You know what, I bet somebody might have put it on youtube. I better check before I fall back asleep." ...yep, and I'm so glad I did. Thanks, man! knowhutimean?

    I've always loved this one.
I used to watch it all the time with my brother when it first came out. Now, this evening, my 23 year old son sends me this link. He and his brothers watched it growing up too. Jim was such an important person in our lives. ❤

I just realized now that this recording has a little extra footage compared to the version that comes in the Essential Ernest Collection. Not sure why some scenes were cut out.

When reality recedes in a blur of blinding speed
    Leaving your earthly body behind
Leaving you to skate with your MIND....
    BOOGIE...
Feel the boogie begin and rush from way down deep within
C'mon kids, Billy's hip - but remember I'M THE CAPTAIN OF THIS SHIP
Just hang on tight and don't die of fright
Captain Billy's gonna take you OUT OF SIGHT
Wrap your little fingers around the bars...
Then you better wish upon a star
'Cause Captain Billy's gonna make you sicker than you are...
    BOOGIE...
Wanna RIDE? Something fast enough to STRIP YOUR HIDE?
Never too young, never too old - there's no age limit to the bold
Don't worry mama, Billy's hip - but remember I'M THE CAPTAIN OF THIS SHIP....
Just hang on tight and don't die of fright
Captain Billy's gonna take you OUT OF SIGHT
Whoa! Right this way...sweet Madonna of the Midway
Let Billy make you boogie ALL ALONE!
    WHOAA - HOLD THE PHONE....
    I'm a crazy dancer - a mad dog handler
Enjoy your ride sir, ON THE SCRAMBLER
    BOOGIE....
    This is your Captain speaking..
Today we will be flying at an altitude of TROPOSPHERIC proportions
At a velocity of Mach CUBED - so put on your high heeled sneakers!
    BOOGIE...
Feel the boogie rush begin from way down deep within
Billy Boogie's gonna take you there
You're gonna feel like you're floatin' on air
Feel your heart begin to pound
    TO THE DEADLY DISCO SOUND!
    BBBBOOOOGGGGGIIIIEEEEE......
You can't stop this man you gotta DANCE
Let's do it some more - c'mon, take a chance
Let Billy Boogie show you how to ROMANCE
    YEAHHH BOOGIE!
Slide to the left and slide to the right
And let your mind slide clean out of sight
Just relax and leave your body behind...
    BOOGIE
Billy Boogie Worrell has taken you to the top,
But sad but true - even good things must stop
Thank you for flying Scrambler Airways with Captain Billy
I always reach my destination with a great deal of STIMULATION
    BOOGIE!!!
Do not leave your seats until the spinning beast has come to a halt
And please exit left, as you come out of the octopus
And tell all your little GAL friends....
    Billy Boogie....
    IS
    BACK!
    BBBBBOOOGIE.....

The Worrell family certainly is weird. Especially when one considers the differences between Rich Worrell and his two sons, Pop and Lloyd. But at least, they aren't boring.
