Even though I’m not much of a sportsman today. Growing up I learned about hunting and gun safety from two people: my dad and Jim Varney in this video. I had this video and part 2 as a kid. I was in Young Bucks... even had the same hat and shirt that Jim is wearing. This brings back so many fond memories and things that are now second nature to me as far as gun safety, I learned watching this video growing up. It was hard when Jim Varney passed away in 2000. I wasn’t totally shocked because I knew he was very sick with cancer, but to this day I can’t listen to “Gee, I’m glad it’s raining” from “Ernest Goes to Camp” without crying. It reminds me of Jim Varney and how soon he left us. “What they wanted was a hero, all I needed was a friend”. RIP Jim! We all still miss you.
Same here friend!!!!!!! I went through a few years, in my childhood, when I was bullied & that song still holds a lot of meaning for me. I've put some thought into recording a modern acoustic version of that song. I think a lot of people can still relate to it. Jim Varney was a great role model. Jim had a heart of gold that always showed clearly through Ernest!!!!!!! "Know What I Mean"
Jim varney was my childhood hero I've never seen this video before I'm sure other than this one watched about all his movies commercials etc but we miss you buddy the world a lil less bright and brilliant without you rest in peace
I got the pleasure of meeting Jim Varney in a mall in Amarillo Texas when I was about 10 yrs old. He is one of my favorite actors he was so funny he will truly be missed.
oh hes avid hunter, he got in trouble with game warden, thus incurring all kinds of outdoor info and safety awareness. He was rumored to be super good shot. He also more than glady give his share of game meat and fish to the needy and loved ones. It is kind of hard to believe. I mean it's... ERNEST P. WORRELL...
I am now 42 years old when I feel down and sad sometimes I go find one of his movies and watch it to get a laugh on or to get a idea Jim varney is my childhood hero and I'm sure going to miss him 🙁
Incorrect. The last movie he filmed was in 1998, which was two years before he died. He first became sick during the filming of this movie and was diagnosed with lung cancer. He then went home to Tennessee and started treatment, but eventually died in early 2000.
As silly as this is there are so many good tips here. Things all beginner hunters, no matter their age should know. Around the time this came out a friend of mine that I rode the school bus went hunting with his cousin. Both of which were around twelve or thirteen. While climbing into a tree stand my friend dropped his gun and shot himself in the leg. His cousin ran for help but by the time they reached him he had bled out. Safety is everything. RIP Micah. You're still missed.
My father passed away last Monday and he loved the Ernest movies. I first noticed this video 4 or 5 months ago and never actually watched it before eventually forgetting about it. I regret not showing him this when I had the chance.
