I asked John Cleese last year what his favourite ever bit was. He said very clearly when the corpse was in the laundry basket and to distract a female guest he looked up at the ceiling and said “just look at that ceiling. This really is one of the best examples of British comedy, also i believe a form of French Farse where things start off normal but get more and more ridiculous. Connie Booth needs qs much recognision for this too. She co wrote it and she acts brilliantly, she's kind of the most relateable character she's witty and clever and tries to get Basil out of the situations. The fact that they both decided to only make 12 episodes is unheard of these days. They both said they'd done as much as they can with it. The only other example i can think of is The young ones, where Rik and Ben said they'd done all they could too
Have just finished reading John's autobiography, "So, Anyway..." It's one of the most entertaining bio's I can recall. I've always known he was comic gold, but his background, and experience, is much, much deeper than just Python or Fawlty. Ninety percent of the book is pre-Python, much I never knew about him. A great read from a master comedian.

With the exception of "number 1". Even in the 1970s, Germany was only 500 kms from England. So why didn't they hire actors for the German parts who could say five words in German without a thick English accent?
How hard could it have been to fly in four real Germans for a morning of shooting three scenes?? Spoils the whole episode... funny as Cleeses "silly walk" may be.
How expensive the whole process would have been more like? This was the BBC and an unknown sitcom that was expected to fail
An absolute genuis of comedy and his mates, what a team.
Worst feeling in the world? When a Fawlty Towers episode ended. :( But luckily there was another one after that!
My husband and I were just talking about this show just last week and now I’m seeing all kinds of videos.
Fawlty Towers was hilarious. I used to see the new words on the fawlty towers sign during the opening credits.
me too
Flowery Twats
@@stephenmaniloff8493 I was looking for that LOL
Fatty Owls 😁
FOUL OTTERS
There are not many comedies that make you cry with laughter, but FT did.Still hilariously funny today has it was 49 and 45 years ago.
Not sure why the reaction channels are not playing these!! especially younger ppl. loved these back in the day, and glad i was so bored I remembered this tonight to search for!!
Some of us do, I’m 16 and was raised on this culture
@@Guy-dv9xw thank you for replying, I watched this again!! wish I could like again!
We always loved the weekly anagram of 'Fawlty Towers' on the hotel sign at the beginning...best one was ' Fatty Owls'.
Every hotel we ever stayed in - we would look out of the window and say '...herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically across the plain'.
Good times, great comedy, happy memories ♥️💞❤️
Not forgetting "Flowery Twats".
I think the sign you remember was “Farty Owls”. Yeah I used to love that too at the start
Flowery twats was the best and was the only actual anagram of Fawlty Towers
Thanks for uploading such TV jewel! Being Spanish and interested in languages, my favourite line is: Basil: "Manuel, there's too much butter on those trays"... ... ; Manuel: "No, no, uno, dos tres"
Yes 😂😂😂
Mine too!
Being Spaniard myself I find this Manuel disgusting. whi painted that man's face?
"Where is the generalisimo?"
"He's in Madrid!!"
I love faulty towers. Can watch it over and over again. Would never get away withis comedy now
Fawlty. Ffs.
This show genuinely gives you tears of laughter at some scenes 😂
An undoubted comedic genius. I really will miss him. Glad for the FT box set of DVD's
Fantastic stuff so much better than comedy today this is pure gold x
Fantastic comedy you could find your own stress levels going up by just watching it .👍
Nothing beats moment #2 when he gives his car a “damn good thrashing” with a branch 🤣
@raerae1281 I laughed at that so hard! It still brings a guffaw out of me!
I picked #2, also.
@@nortiusmaximus1789 Every time, I know it’s coming but it makes me laugh so hard! Fawlty Towers was brilliant. “Don’t mention the war!” Is my other favorite moment, that and all of the things with Mrs. Richards and her hearing aid. 🤣
I am from Sweden, and I have watched every Fawlty Towers episode, it’s some of the best comedy sketches ever! When I’m feeling low or depressed, they always cheer my up! And that goes also for the rest of what John Cleese and the Monty Python came up with! Pure Genius!
Great comedy moments, thanks for sharing! Anyone also digging the 'There's too much butter on those trays' scene?
Absolutely wonderful, laughter galore , I have enjoyed watching Faulty Towers over the many years.
Basil, Manual, Sybil and Polly and other cast members brilliant. They would have had fun putting this series together ❤ 😂❤😂😂
Great collection, but the light bulb sketch with the Aussie girl is my fave. Comic geniuses.
Brilliant selection!😂😂 The Germans sketch was an undoubted winner!!
The "Cleese Hop" when he gets caught by the wifey--and "The Walk"--physical comedy at its best.
No matter how many times I watch Faulty Towers, it never ceases to make me laugh….i have seen it many times over, over the years. 😂😂😂
The o`reilly sketch from 1:10 onwards is one of the funniest moments ever. When Basil goes into a meltdown 😂😂😂
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this .
For me, every episode was the best episode.
the best ever if seen some episodes 5 times and still its great!
Gonna have to give Farty Towels another run soon, its been over 10 yrs since I last binge watched it.
I wonder how many people missed that......
One of the greatest comedy shows ever! I even watch the reruns. Great cast of personalities.
the phone ringing after the fire bell is timed to perfection
Priceless and timeless indeed. 👍👍
Probably the greatest British comedy of all times.
Yes Minister gives it a run for its money
Only 2 seasons, but they truly believed in quality over quantity
Obviously trying to attract a better class of person!
Agree quality, priority. Unfortunate that's all there was, tho-
That denim on Polly is beautiful and so is her hairstyle. Pretty Polly.
I love the “don’t panic” “what else is there to do?!” 😂
This was the best scene from the comedy! 😂 Genius.
