I hate to say this but few would respect / appreciate this as much as Hickok does. No question that it ended up in the perfect hands.
I have THE Krag carbine that my grandfather was issued in WW1. (Along with associated documentation!)
It was left to me because I'm the only one of 4 grandkids that would NEVER consider selling it.
I'm amazed over how many have asked "what I could get for it."

So true. I once had a young man give me an 1866 Allin Model 2 Springfield Trapdoor 50/70......he said, "because no one could pay me more for it than I know you would appreciate it". Amazing how generous people can be. I believe I know how Hickok felt.

My mom always said that when someone wants to give you a gift always accept it graciously because you never want to take their joy away. If you ever felt a desire to give someone something and they showed true appreciation there is joy you experience that you can't get any other way. It would be wrong to rob some kind soul of that joy. It truly is better to give than to receive.

Fell in love with lever actions as a kid when my brother and I saw the Movie "Winchester 73". First two rifles I ever bought. were a Marlin Mountie and a Marling 336 in 35 Remington. This show is refreshing to watch because it's about the sheer joy of shooting and reviewing quality firearms. Keep on keeping on.

Lever action is like a pump action, and they're like standard transmissions. It has a "man and machine" feeling to it. Fittingly, the alternatives are both called automatics, and you lose that special feeling.

I am keenly aware how they have been used to help support freedom all over the world for many many decades. They are a great equalizer where the weak and fairer gender can protect themselves against the miscreants our society produces. And they’re just a whole heck of a lot of fun to shoot,. I understand. A friend of mine over the years dropped off several firearms to my house that he wanted me to go shoot and enjoy. We enjoyed our range time together, and we often drooled over each others "toys" if you will. He just recently died, I tried to return his firearms to his family and they all said no, those are yours. He wanted you to have them. My collection is nowhere near what yours is but it still means a lot to me when I think about the good times we've had with good friends and these firearms. Some of them should be in a museum so they are proudly displayed in sealed glass cases in our home. I still miss my old 44-40 Marlin...

I know it would take away from the rifles historic value and the character it has acquired over the years, but can you imagine how beautiful that rifle would look if completely tore apart, cleaned, reblued , and all the wood refinished ? It would look magnificent........hopefully even better than the day it came off the factory floor.

No. True history should not be tampered with.
That rifle has earned the right to look like it does, and it looks GREAT to me.

RIP to Tim’s father, glad he was able to gift the gun to someone who would really appreciate and honor it, I’m sure his father would be elated to see it in your hands.

His Father is watching you from above! Your right a gift from someone who has passed is humbling and must honored in remembrance of that person. Great video
God Bless him and his son.

Nice piece and historical firearm as well.
Handed down through generations with proper care and use.
A patina of careful use and storage keeps guns rust free.
Given this they outlast the owners.

At least it was donated and not sold to a random store/dealer (to make a few bucks only to have the gun sold/marked up 5x the amount they paid the owner for it.

Very true but with what the ATF is doing on guns being given to people & trying to make it mandatory to do a FFL on it and do the background check we better hope they don't see this & what else he was saying because they will go after him next because of this corrupt administration we have now .
