P15 How to set up the timing in your Harley Golf cart. Timing to run the best in forward and reverse

- Here we dive down into the timing of the golf cart to find out why it seems to run the better in reverse than forward. We go through the manual and time engine, then we see how it runs. It does seem to run better but I think I have some other issues going on. My belt had a lot of oil from the clutch leaking and it appears to be slipping. Also the carb is leaking fuel, so I need to investigate and hopefully get it in tip top running condition.

Running nice!
‘67 three wheeler here, about to do top and bottom end rebuild and new oil bath intake. Can’t wait to have it running solid, I live in two stop sign country town where golf carts are allowed on the streets. 😎
Very nice, Carts on the streets, sounds like a lot of fun! I will say it's getting hard to find parts for these though... Good luck with the rebuild, can't wait to see it!! Let me know if you need anything!
What kind of light was that hook to your golf cart when you were finding TDC and BDC and what was it hooked up to? Great video by the way
Thank you!!!I got this LED from DigiKey.com (I think) www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/apem-inc/Q12P1CXXB12E/1953547 I hooked the positive side of LED to battery + and the negative side to the points with the coil unplugged. *EDIT* I don't remember spending that much for the LED at Digikey, I may have got them from Newark Electronics, $5.36 each here... www.newark.com/apem/q12p1cxxb12/led-indicator-panel-12mm-blue/dp/91Y6854
You can use any light that doesn't pull more than 1 amp. Good Luck!
Good video! What kind of points and condenser did you use for your new replacements? I'm having trouble finding OEM style ones for mine.
Thank you! I am pretty sure I got my points and condenser from www.vintagegolfcartparts.com/Category/harley_davidson_ignition_points
It was either that or www.buggiesunlimited.com/Golf-cart/ignition-components/140218
Good luck!
Where did you get a print out of the instructions?
Manuals,
www.buggiesgonewild.com/columbia-parcars/
Sounds like the clutch is really worn out on it and it changes the RPM oven as it converts so that changes how it runs take your clutch apart check it out

The belt had some oil on it from when I had issues with the clutch leaking. New belt is on the way and hopefully that helps get the power to the ground! Thanks for watching!
I got the same golf cart, just picked it up. Having the same issues
They are a pain to get just right... Good luck!
How does the test light work? Where can I buy one?

There's two marks on flywheel how do I tell which is for forward or reverse?A n are you saying to put fly wheel on mark an set points maybe 25 thousand
It's hard to tell which is forward or reverse and really doesn't matter. The marks are to set when the points just open, the light just turning on. These are a little different than other engines, the point gap is how you advance or retard spark. If you get the inspection plate set right, i.e. the points opening on each dot on flywheel, you never move that plate again and you adjust point gap to advance/retard.
Where did you get your timing light
The timing light I got from Advance or AutoZone years ago, I don't remember the cost. If you mean the LED, I got that from DigiKey www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/apem-inc/Q12P1CXXB12E/1953547
What do you wire your light to
One lead goes on the battery and the other on the points. Be sure to remove the wire off the coil that goes to the points. Good luck!
Do you know how tight the reeds to be
Nothing in book refers to how tight reeds need to be that I saw.
25-30 ft lbs I've got a 82-83 that I don't know how to time. And the points assembly only marks I've seen are the two lines on the fan
The engine sounds good, but it sounds and looks like your losing power to the wheels.
I agree, The belt had some oil on it from when I had issues with the clutch leaking. New belt is on the way and hopefully that helps get the power to the ground! Thanks for watching!
