If you want to read about pedophilia and other abhorrent things, the place to do it isnt in your school library. I stand with those concerned parents.
You can't even spell the word properly and yet you're so confident that books encouraging such behavior are in our public school library systems. Do you understand the difference between referencing pedophilia and endorsing it? In your opinion, does such nuance matter when we consider what books to pull?
@@mlbqbb At 10 years old, my references in school were science, history, math, the arts and recreational things like GI Joe and Voltron. I dont think a book that references men sucking other Mens dicks belongs in school. Now you may think that makes me old fashioned, and I’d be just fine with that. If you think this garbage is ok, you probably dont want to know what I think about you.
@@joeydego2 Here's a few things that it seems you need explained. 1. A book is not a toy - it takes an advanced level of involvement to appreciate over your average GI Joe action figure. 2. The students in this video are CLEARLY not 10-years-old. They are in high school. We are talking about a high school's library. 3. Often times books found in a high school library take on a more mature content. For instance, while you were in high school playing with Voltron, I was reading Stephen King's The Shining - which I had no problem finding in my high school's library. Somehow I didn't murder my entire family after reading! Isn't that amazing?! 4. Most advanced reader's don't judge the merits of a book on the contents found in one page. AND if a fictional relationship between a 24 and a 17 year old bother you, I'll remind you that there's a very REAL investigation going on revolving around a 30+ year old sitting House Representative and his sexual cavorting with a 17 year old woman. If you're offended more by the fiction than the actual crime committed by the Floridian House Member than I don't care at all what you think about me.
@@mlbqbb while my life went on well after this post, clearly the book you just wrote means a lot to you. If you want to tell your kids it’s ok for adults to touch kids, men to touch men and to pick your own gender like picking out a pair of socks, go ahead. A lot of people aren’t behind this ideology and it has no place in public education.
@@joeydego2 I just think you should read a book before you feel so emboldened to tell others they can't. Once again, this book is not at a young child's reading level - high schooler at the very least. And I'm not telling a kid that anything is okay. I don't have to. Kids see on the news that you can pay a minor for sex and still be a member of the House of Representatives. Kids see on the news that the best way to get away with child abuse is to take the cloth and become a "man of God". Kids see on the news that if have the money you can make any sexual assault accusation disappear like magic. But the worst example we could set is fictional gay fellatio. Because it's gay.
Notice how they don't tell us what's actually in the books so that we can make an informed decision. In all fairness though, the FCC would probably yank their license if they broadcast the content of some of these books on air. How's that for irony?
You could just read the book. That's how most people would make an INFORMED decision.
@@mlbqbb they read verbatim at the meeting is what the guy meant and thankfully people record these meetings reading verbatim so we can see them ourselves. Going on everywhere amd reported the same mostly. In a way that that misrepresents positions and reasons as if people are crazy n have the nerve to equate it to sacred book burning. How silly.
You will tell me there is none when you ca type school board meeting sexual books in search and watch them read verbatim.
They do the same with drag shows for kids acting like they wanna ban drag shows while not mentioning kids. Most trans disagree you can search that too. Also trans is a way of life and drag is a sexual fetish.
@@mlbqbb you don't see the irony in the fact that these so called "learning materials" can't be read in school board meetings due to their explicit content but it's okay for any age kid to read? I really hope you aren't a parent because if you are, with that attitude, you're condoning grooming. Not really a good look.
And it's also ironic how the news slanted this whole story to make it sound like everybody in that community supported having those books in the school and it was only two parents opposed. This is where the term "sheeple" comes from. You watch one news story and that's your new belief. If ignorance is bliss, my guess is you're orgasmic all day, every day.
If parents are ok with their children reading sexually explicit material then they have the right to buy the books or go to the public library for them to check them out but for grade school kids it is highly inappropriate for it to be in the school for all kids when the majority of parents want to have the right to not have their kids have access to it.
53% of 11 year olds in the US have a smartphone.
By age 15 it’s 93%.
Every single kid has access to the vast ocean of raw hardcore porn on the internet.
If you still think kids are learning about sexuality from school library books you are trapped in a quaint retrograde delusion.

Schools are not for education. They are social engineering and indoctrination experiments.
Wtf, if a parent lets their children consume sexually explicit books that parent goes to federal prison for 40+ years. Because that's a crime right up their with pedophelia.
This is ridiculous you’re only going to show one side of the argument?! The books aren’t “banned” they are removed from the school as they are inappropriate for the learning environment. People can still get them on Amazon or public libraries
If you’re going to go out of your way to air one side of the story, you should go out of your way to air the other side..
Some of the content in those books are inappropriate for grade school children. I wouldn’t want my children taking one out from the school library no less. If you adults want to read, indulge yourself, but parents have the right to say what content is available for their kids
What about children that are more mature and at a higher reading comprehension level than your child? They don't get access to books that you deem inappropriate? That's arrogant and unfair to children that can pick up a modern classic like Slaughterhouse-Five and understand that just because it speaks of violence doesn't mean that it encourages it.
@@mlbqbb my children are grown with children of their own. My point is, they banned Dr. Seuss, then put this garbage in its place. Parents have a right to speak up on indoctrinating their kids. My kids would not be in public school the way it is today.
@@patmurdie Who banned Dr. Seuss? The Seuss estate. Please explain the connection to an author's estate choosing to no longer release a selection of that author's books and parents wanting books banned from a public library. There is NO connection. You're losing and you're grasping at straws to try to make your point of view seem logical.
The book in question, Call Me By Your Name, is not an attempt at indoctrinating your kids. There's your wonderful logic again, Andre Aciman, spends a majority of his 70 years fulfilling his passion of writing -winning awards along the way for his well written novels. And the entire time he did it with the single intention of indoctrinating YOUR kids. Is it not a selfish way to interpret the world?
@@mlbqbb you totally missed the point. This trash they put in schools is not appropriate for young children
@@patmurdie I didn't miss the point. Rather I pointed out that your comparison was trash. The book, Call Me By Your Name, is inappropriate for young children - yes. However, if one were to read the book they would see that it is beyond the reading level of a young child. Again, this isn't Dr. Seuss. That's why we are talking about this being available at a high school's public library.
Be offend… those books should not be in school
Have you ever stepped foot inside a library?
@@mlbqbb School Libraries are always more regulated due to the fact they likely have far younger minor readers than those in Public Libraries.
@@silverhawkscape2677 That's a moot point. 1) Minors can and do use public libraries. In fact, you can anticipate public libraries being on the chopping block next for that very reason. 2) School libraries carry books for VARIOUS maturity levels - ie. if a school teaches grades 5-12, they ARE going to inevitably carry books that are inappropriate for 5th graders.
If News Reporter's can't READ these book's📚 on TV for us to Hear what's in theM!?
What makes you think they should be in ouR Schools🚩 for OuR KID'S to READ🤷🏻
Pedophiles. There is no way responsible, mature and moral adults would agree with this in Schools or for minors!!!
Crazy how much they are pushing sex on these kids.
We did not have dirty books in our highschool library. We had a few gay kids but nobody with gender dysphoria. School was for maths, science, English and social anthropology, not getting our thrill on blueberry hill. We mostly used the library to do research for school assignments. Most kids were too busy with sports and dance lessons and music and art to be interested in dirty books.
Not until the teacher makes it *required reading material*.
That's how they work. They push and see how far they can go until you complain. Stop then do it again until they reach their goal.
Let's not care if it hurts their feelings, we got in this situation because we're didn't want to be bother and not hurt their feelings.

Take the books out. They gave no place in a high school library. Anyone wishing to have the books can get on line and order them thru Amazon. Whats the big deal?
That implies that the person has money and access to do so. Not everyone can afford books
Libraries exist for a reason.
public libraries and public school libraries should be treated differently; they always have been. Stop equating the practice of regulating available school readings to the practice of burning books. School libraries have ALWAYS been regulated to ensure the readings are appropriate.
@@lawrenceshdow No duh. They're regulated by people who actually have experience reading books. Not by parents who are jealous that their children's reading levels are surpassing their own.

Terrible journalism...why not examine what the books actually had in them so the viewers can decide?
Good point, they should have read the entire 256 page novel as well as had a literature major provide cliff notes for all the viewers with the reading-level of a first grader.
In all fairness, the FCC would probably yank their license if they broadcast the content of some of these books on air. How's that for irony.
Keep the books in a 18+ section. Lol
18+ section in a school for minors....

Put cameras in the "Public" class rooms for total transparency. The legal age to buy porn is 21 years old. How is this appropriate? Yeah! It's NOT!!! Start suing and demanding arrests for this B.S. Start finding out who is making this okay for the school. Find the source!
This guy just compared burning porn books to burning books written by Jews in WW2... WTF!?!
The Bible doesn't have graphic or explicit pictures of sex acts
PEOPLE NEED TO WAKE UP !! WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS WORLD🖤
If parents think it is ok to let their children read sexually explicit books they can buy them from book stores.
Whiny bratty teenagers HAVE NO SAY.
It's called adulting. I know the he/she/? Student is all passionate about books, but at his age, he will be told what to read to earn a degree.
They do have a say and they should. Those "bratty teenagers" are clearly at a higher reading comprehension level than "adults" like you whose idea of continued education is everything after 2+2. Have you read a book ever?
Is the decency law still on the books? There was a time when this law prevented this kind of thing. No child should be learning to preform oral sex in school! No matter what age. Also if a book i can not be read on the evening or morning news because of EXPLICIT CONTENT, WHY SHOULD IT BE IN A SCHOOL LIBRARY?
It isn't about learning about performing oral sex. It's about kids going through these things themselves and having someone write something that they can relate too. It is about a choice being taken away. It is about the board not following the rules on how this should have been handled. Too listen to a few parents argue about this book and not bring it up with the rest of the teachers, parents and students, and just make a choice on their own is bullshit. Maybe this meeting would have taken a different path had they done that. Who knows, but the fact is that it wasn't and books are being banned that weren't even read. As was said, because of LGBTQ reasons. Do you know how many people live in our County that are homeless? How many, that we are not even aware of, that have to proustite because they were forced into it, and I am not talking about walking the streets prostitutes', but having a pimp bring her to a hotel in order to make money after school hours. We had one girl, years ago, that was taken. A neighbors daughter, her friend. A girl that was in my sons school. Cops were worried that they wouldn't find her in time and would be sold off. Go further up to Norther VA and many girls had been taken. It was not addressed because they were black girls, but, if I remember correctly, the theory was that they had been sold for sex. I am not sure where you live but you don't have the right to take the choice of these students and parents away. You don't get to decide what these students want to read because they have been tthrough it themselves. As one teacher said, many students ask for specific books to help them get through and u understand better what is going on. Maybe these kids can't go to their parents and talk about it, or their parents are the ones involved. I heard two students address the bible. Since I haven't read through it I am going to assume that they are putting the bible in the same category as the talked about books. This is bigger than just the books themselves. Oh and one book was turned into a movie.
Seriously? When students study Hamlet, does it teach them to murder?
I was abused and wish I had learned that what was being done was wrong, but was taught that it was from strangers and such. I listened to the kids who talked and to see that it helped many kids get through things they were going through. I dont' believe in telling someone how to raise their kids, however if this book helped one kid it would be worth it. But when I say that these kids are learning this stuff from each other that book is probably cleaner than what they say. As someone said, the Bible isn't any better and that is on a a level it s houldn't be taught. There is a reason I stopped going to the Catholic church. I mean, pedophilia is all over that and covered up. I think it is about how each person reads it. Does one read it and only see the explicit details or does one read the entire book the way it is meant to be read. Maybe more would be agreeable to have them taken out, but not burned and not unless they were given a vote in the process. Pulling a book just because one person mentioned it is not fair to others. If someone went in as one and said keep it in the Library and that decision was made without the community is that fair?I believe in those who fight and made decisions based on their research. And as others have said, you can restrict your kids from reading them by getting them in the school library/ If the kids do find it fascinating and choose to share that with other students the book will be found regardless of in school or not.
I completely agree, Linda. And if anyone had been through or was going through something traumatic/abusive, instead of offering them explicit books, we should be hyping them up to seek counsel/therapy instead of replacing morality with misconduct. Teaching them that there is help out there. Whilst allowing other innocent minds to stay innocent as long as possible. Regulating this type of reading material (from personal experience, reading on the internet in the earlier 2000s as a child) makes kids feel that what happened to them or what they’re doing is normal and okay to be done/do to others when it’s not!!! It’s all a huge mess.
There shouldn't be "decency laws." That Marxist/Communist attitude never works and always winds up with a pile of dead bodies. I do hope you're kidding.
Coitusing is a big word for grade schoolers, even I had to find it in the dictionary.
Library Books are funded by taxpayers. No one is preventing you from purchasing the books or reading them at your local Barnes and Nobles, Half Price Books, Amazon. This isn't a book ban.

@@jenniferbrooks268 That sounds like it's inappropriate for minor students and the subject matter is extremely disturbing. No need for that to be in the schools
@@Dancingontgesun1942 I definitely agree and was happy to hear Spotsy parents looking out for their kids (I have 3 who graduated from Chancellor) and am now so disappointed that the bullies have taken over😒. I will say that I had a serious problem with some of the material the drama dept did (not the musicals but some of the smaller events). My daughter did not understand at the time my concerns with the material but her eyes have been opened wide now...
@@jenniferbrooks268 My daughter goes to Chancellor middle, my son Riverbend. Ironically, neither kid would have known about this book if this didn't cause so much attraction. Honestly, still not sure how much they know about the books and probably wouldn't even care, but now, I am sure, there will be a lot of interest from students, about it. I may not necessarily agree with the wording of some of what is written, I have yet to read them, but the students themselves have argued that their rights shouldn't be taken away. We are so worried about two books that are in the Library that we don't consider what the kids are seeing on their phones. As parents, we expect the schools to provide or not provide our kids with certain material, but why are, some of us, not doing the same on our end. I leave it open to my kids to ask. Do they ask me everything, Nope. I let them watch SVU in some cases it brings up stories that are bad. It gives my kids the opportunity to discuss and understand that some of these things are wrong. From my understand is that these books were not written as porn but for many a learning experience. Also, I heard one of the Libarians or husband of one say that they are unable to read every book that comes through there. Teachers are overstressed and being used for more than just their position. And if you feel then they should leave their jobs, it will make it worse. Huge sub shortage and teachers are being used for other classes to fill in. You know, I don't even have a problem with the parents that asked to have them removed. They had that right, and so did t he two students who spoke for banning them. The problem is the board.
@@jenniferandersen1101 The big question is who is in charge of the reading materials allowed into our public schools? And what is the process? I personally don't think it should be the librarian's responsibility to read every book cover to cover, but a very easy Google check enlightened me as to the predatory nature of this particular book. Honestly, do you think your son needs to learn about mastr**bating to a peach while thinking about an adult and being told that is good and normal behavior? It is good that you have a healthy, open relationship with your children, but unfortunately, so many families do not. Who in their right mind thinks glorifying sexual relationships between children and adults has a place in our schools? That is the difference...this book is all about GLORIFYING this type if a relationship-movie made in 2017 if you have the stomach. Our kids are being sexualized on every front and it is up to the parents to do everything they can to protect them.
