I would have responded to Karen by grabbing the bible from the library and started reading aloud verses such as Ezekiel 16:17, followed by Deuteronomy 25:11-12, Ezekiel 23:18-21, Proverbs 5:19, solomon’s song of songs, and so on and so on!!! You know all the verses that will never be discussed at Sunday School!!! These Karen's never read the bible yet alone know what the hell they are talking about. Yes, I agree. But it's also her job to teach her children what is right and wrong to read. It's 50% parents and 50% the school's responsibility. If the books were removed from the school the kids would look in other areas to read the content. This is why the kids should be taught the differences between right and wrong.

I think it's disputable, it obviously depends what kind of a school it is and whether the book is age restricted and a million other factors. What's really absurd is the fact that they include the book in the library but prohibit her from citing it because it could be offensive xD
On another note: What's with the school board being set up like a court room? Make everyone else feel small?! The city I'm from is about the same size as cherokee county, there these kinds of meetings are just held in "normal" meeting rooms. You know, seeing eye to eye and all...

And even still, it shouldn’t be made widely available to all students considering their parents all likely hold different values and PARENTS should be the deciding factor on when and how their children learn about sexual interactions. We can all deem that it needs to be taught for the betterment of society but over reaching on parents is not how you progress. And most certainly not sexually explicit content like she was reciting. If it’s not ok for a school board meeting FULL OF ADULTS, then it is not ok to be on a library shelf. 🤷🏼♀️

I say this to my friends all the time. My kids have graduated, but if they were still school age, I wouldve pulled them out. This is insane. When I was in school, the teachers and principals were "strict" and we wouldve never been subjected to this kind of nonsense. Now, the teachers and principals are not only allowing it, but they are justifying it also. We are living in a crazy world.

When I was in school, teachers kept track of what students were reading. My teachers kept a list to make sure we were reading something in our reading level. And if we weren’t, we had to send the book back to the library and choose another one. I’m not saying teachers need to parent. I’m saying that teachers need to STAND with the parents! There are too many parents standing alone! Where are the teachers???

I actually read the book the was reading, i was 16 and had no friends. I graduated a long time ago, but at the time It made me extremely uncomfortable. I didn’t understand why that scene had to be in there.

When Fifty Shades of Grey first came out high school girls were reading that book I heard a story about a girl who had read it during one of her classes, and the teacher not only took it away, but she got sent to the principal and was expelled for two days from school that’s only 10 years ago and that book is Tang compared to what they’re trying to indoctrinate our children today with graphic novels

The Bible is not taught in Public School. The Bible is taught in Church, Sunday School is age appropriate teachings. You should give a student an alternative and those books should not be read in the class period. It’s perverted and there is no reason to even discuss it in class.
It's not about banning books. It's about public funds being used to make inappropriate material available at school. I want my kids to read anything at all and be intellectually engaged with the material. What is appropriate for personal use, isn't necessarily appropriate for school. And if the law would punish an adult for giving that material to a minor, the school should ALSO be restrained from distribution.
We didn't have that garbage when I was in middle school. The closest thing was a novel about a wayward princess that spent the night at the same Inn as her betrothed Prince, but she didn't know he was in the next room!

We here in Vermont, Chittenden county, we have tried the same thing with the book called Gender Queer. We took the book from the library and brought it to the police station. Months later, it’s back on the shelf. There seems to be a very strange agenda going on here. It’s very very scary. I pray for all the kids and parents with children in public school right now. It’s insane, talking to K-5 about gender identity, what sexuality preference they have and pronouns etc… what is going on here?!?!? Let kids be kids man! It’s so disturbing! We can’t stop fighting these things and save our children.

A few years ago I took the school bus driver training classes to become a bus driver. One thing that they stressed very strongly and the biggest fear all schools have is PR with the parents. They stressed over and over what ever you do , do not upset the parents because they are terrified of parents pulling their kids out of their school. My boy is in grade 11 and some of the things he says he hears from the teachers today would have gotten the teacher walked out of the school in my day. Schools are becoming unfit for children and liberalism is the disease that is destroying America.
Yes they fear home schooling as a choice for the parent to be able to do because they ( the school it's self looses state money). Money that's based on attendance, number of students enrolled and on and on. If you home schooled your child that would take money coming into that school system. They need that state funded money to pay the salaries of the school board members nieces, nephews, mother, wife's sister. Qualified or not also. You know how it works. So don't upset the parents. It's been like this for years and it's sad.

Kids can order books via Amazon without mom or dad knowing, so what if a student brought that book to school and put it on the shelf without the librarian knowing??

We live in a time where girls are fighting to wear basically nothing, risqué clothes & saying boys should control themselves & yes I agree with that but also, adding to the challenge for young boys to control themselves by providing sexual risqué books like this is ok?! What if a boy (or girl) was reading this during class & got sexual aroused?! I mean where is the common sense?! Many years ago as a 7th grader I was taking too long finding a book in the school library to read, and my wise, old teacher became frustrated with me and went and chose a book for me and put it in my hands and said "Here, read this one." It was Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Granted, it was probably a difficult book for a 7th grader to read, but I did my best to get through it. Now, many, many years later that is the one highlight of that year I can still remember and also the only school library book that I ever remember reading from any grade. That teacher really helped me a lot that day.
The problem is that kids these days are not exposed to great literature, and it's all about this woke crap. Shame on that school board president for even making a public statement about this, and if she clearly can't understand the irony of the situation then she's not qualified to be on the board of education.
