How can ANYONE in Britain not be familiar with The Beatles after they are five years old? I'm stunned!
We're all getting old, that's what! :-)
On a Gen X Facebook group I’m in… this week there was a 48 year old who was “not familiar” with Green Day
Like, how on EARTH is that possible?
I understand maybe not being a fan… but just completely oblivious to their existence?
I’d have thought it was a troll if she didn’t get so angry when I asked how it was possible. 😂
Yeh, complete pile of bs by another either too lazy to work, or smart enough to work out that if you've got no talent you can always trade off someone elses.
I'm American and how can anyone in the world older than 5 not know them? 😂 But, he says he doesn't know Elvis, either...
And a Brit pronouncing zed as zee!?!?!?
I'm 73 years old and The Beatles are still my favourite band of all time.
No drum machines, no computer stuff. Four guys who actually played their instruments and sang.
And recorded it on 4 track tapes. Pure genius.
and wrote their own music too, it wasn't written for them...
@@garmit61 ABBEY Road was 8 Track
Five guys perhaps? Did Billy Preston play on Abbey Road?
@@samnichles447 yes and Eric Clapton
When the Beatles released this, NO ONE else was doing anything like it. The real reason the Beatles are always #1 is because they were true pioneers in the industry. Just subscribed. I think you are adorable! I am 70 so I am not being creepy, just being a Nana!!
You’ve just listened to the greatest band of all time, and that’s official 👍
Official, according to who?
@@darylfoster7944It’s definitely official, the Beatles are without a doubt the greatest and most influential band that has ever existed. I would venture to say that some of the bands you enjoy might not have existed without them. Music is subjective of course, but the facts don’t lie, do your research.
@@darylfoster7944 Public opinion
It’s fact, they are the greatest band that has ever existed. Do your research if you don’t believe it.
@@scottborenstein8291 depends where you get your information from.
Forbes has them at number 2 and zeppelin at 1. and that is al subject to mainstream radio.
The Beatles are their own genre. Centuries from now, I suspect people will still be listening to them, the way some people today still listen to Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven.
And people then will likewise still appreciate the great composers, like the three you named. Timeless music is, well, timeless.
💯.
A friend who thought I only liked classical music once asked me what I listened to.
"The four Bs: Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, and The Beatles," I told him.
Most musicologists and music history scholars and music theorists also believe the Beatles will remain as big as Bach, Beethoven and Mozart, and will be studied for centuries.
@@beckygrant2258 There is a college of music studying Beatles. I'm not sure if it's in England. They are as great as those classical musicians.
Funny that Harrison once said that 500 years from now, nobody will remember the Beatles, but everyone will remember Bob Dylan. Who knows?
💚Imagine an 11 year old girl in 1964 hearing The Beatles for the first time and being totally and utterly blown away by the music, the personalities and sweet magic of it all. It changed her life forever. Fast forward 60 years. She finds it hard to imagine living those 60 years without The Beatles as a constant rhythm and reality of her life. Then she gets to watch a young person experience them for the first time and she is filled with joy and wonder and appreciation and awe all over again because she sees that this young man is just beginning this journey and discovery that millions have experienced over the decades. She smiles through her teary eyes. Welcome to The Beatles. And thank you for letting me feel their magic again. 💙💜🩷🩵
I was 7 in 1964, and had just lived through the biggest earthquake in modern times in Anchorage, AK--9.2 on the adjusted Richter scale. The Beatles had just exploded on Ed Sullivan a month earlier, and the Beatles singing on the radio as everyone began to assess the total devastation around us kept us holding it together as we assessed the damage and began to rebuild. The Beatles have been the soundtrack of my life ever since. They're utter perfection consistently moves me to tears, even after 60 years.
Same age as you,. I've just posted about the excitement I felt waiting to see what innovative sound was coming next. Wasn't it great? I was thinking whether this young man felt the goose bumps and the swelling in his chest that I felt, and did again. Didn't he choose a great track to start with?
My mid-30s daughter is training her 3-month old daughter to enjoy The Beatles and The Who. We raised her well. Tbf, my wife and I had been too cool for school about 1960s groups and were more into glam and then punk with The Who, Bowie, and Mott the Hoople as main threads. I only got into The Beatles in 1999 when my 12-year old daughter heard my CD of Sgt Pepper and loved it
@@cuebj You must have been a bit into them to have actually got the album.
Me too. Age 11 in 1964.
You're so lucky having just scratched the surface and moving on to more great Beatles music. Put on your headphones, close your eyes and enjoy.
Beatles songs are a never ending gift. The most important band. Every song has its own character, yet every song sounds like the Beatles ❤
Good comment.
There are not words in the dictionary to describe how unbelievably great The Beatles are. Just extraordinary.
Yo, well put !!!
Even true of Ringo’s drumming in particular. You can listen to the drum track by itself and recognize almost every song. The musicians always served the song.
Well said. 🙏❤️😊
Who are The Beatles?....only the most influential, and some would say, greatest band of all time. I'd reserve some time to really appreciate them.....about 50 years should do it😊
lol !

A record per week, or even a month.
Worth EVERY MINUTE.
I think you said it well. I was 1 of the boomers who heard this all the 1st time around. We didn't know just how lucky we were. We just thought that fantastic singers who knew how to play instruments and had real talent would keep on coming. I and so glad that your generation are mature enough to listen and know that this is great music and there is tons of it out there. ENJOY. 😁😁
Yes, your ears have just received a gift! It was fun watching you enjoy it. Keep listening. You will get a great education! I chuckle as you call this music the "good old days". Seems like only yesterday to me...
Hmm . . . you see, I was born in 1958, in the UK, and so I grew up hearing the Beatles.
But - and I've never made any secret of it - even as a little kid, I always preferred the Stones.
This is one of Ringo's finest moments. NOBODY can copy what he does on the drums on this song
He did a great job on Something too. I can't think of the opening the song without of Ringo's opening drum riff. Come Together and Something back to back on one album, and to open the album!
Left handed drummer on a right hand kit then add his talent and wow!
It's called an "eargasm". The Beatles will do it to you every time!

I remember anticipating their arrival in the US and lying down on the floor to watch them on the Ed Sullivan Show.
I'm 57. I was 3 years old and my mom used to play the radio all the time and hear the Beatles...
I am 75 and this was my generation.
Ringo is so on top of the beat that it gives Paul more freedom to play melodies on his bass. When you listened to the vast majority of the Beatle's catalog you realize there has not been anyone like them ever.
Ringo was one of those rare drummers who never played flashily, just sufficiently to add seasoning to the song. Even more unusual was how he could play slightly off the beat without actually missing the beat, leading the listener through the rythm. There isn't a world-class drummer who doesn't respect Ringo.
Ringo one of the few drummers who actually wrote his drum music out, he also tuned each drumhead to a specific note.@@Gill3D

When the Beatles were making their music they influenced lives all over the world, mine included. Sadly my friend you were not there to experience it first hand, it was a magical time, bur there is nothing to stop you catching up now. You have started down the road and if you continue you too will travel through a magical experience and hooefully learn the true meaning of musical genius.
It wasn't all magic, sadly. Vietnam, Nixon, Manson, Weather Underground, assassinations, and worst of all (for me), the breakup. But the Beatles helped us make it through all that, and continue to be a positive force for good.
@@StanvansandtThe breakup is always the kicker! I sympathise.
Yeah, I always wonder, what happened to the magic? Where did it go?
My best guess is that it was commercialized.
That killed it.

I was a pre-teen when the Beatles were coming out with hit after hit non stop. It was amazing. They still are.
My sister and I were about 5 and 6 when the Beatles hit America. Not many people remember but, the Beatles had a cartoon in the 60's. We never missed it and people were (and are!) surprised because we knew all the words to so many Beatles songs. Wish whoever owns the cartoons would release them on DVD or Blu-ray.
I was a 10-year-old teenybopper (the prime audience for the early Beatles music) when they showed up in the US music scene. I loved Ringo so much I wrote him love letters using the words of Beatles music😂 I was pretty naive.
Yes we felt it in our souls, so beautiful to see your experience with them, sweet as ever!
55 years old and still better than anything today. You only have a couple of hundred to go!
In 300 years, when kids in music class learn about the music of the 20th century, there will be a chapter about the Beatles.

Come Together was one of The Beatles' later hits. Their earlier music was very much influenced by 1950s rock 'n rollers such as Little Richard and by American R&B. Later they were teamed with producer George Martin who had a classical music background and his influence led to him becoming known as "the fifth Beatle". Certainly, their style of music became much more sophisticated and they developed innovative recording techniques. Another influence was Ravi Shankar who played the sitar and made a big impact on guitarist George Harrison. That's just a brief outline of The Beatles' journey. You might find it entertaining to listen to their work chronologically and experience their developing maturity, changing music forever.
What do you mean “ later “ George Martin came into the fold as it were. George Martin was there since day one!
It's hard to take in that there are people who have never heard (or even heard of!) the Beatles, but then time marches on. Fun to watch you younger folks experiencing them for the first time.
The Rolling Stones are still rolling over 50 years after the Beatles retired!!!! 50 YEARS!!!! Heard their going to perform again this summer!!!!

It’s great how impressed you are with this song. What is even more impressive is their whole evolution during their career. Try to listen to their songs in order of how they were released and they’ll blow you away even more. They started out good, they ended up being the most influential band in music history.
If you listen to their early stuff, which was amazing as well, you can see the amazing progression of their music over 6 short years.

Paul jamming on the bass, Ringo playing dirty on the drums. Awesome to the max.
To really understand the phenomenon that was the Beatles, you need to listen to their music chronologically from 1962-1970. It is the story of the evolution of rock'n'roll from fun, silly love songs, to meaningful, progressive music, all led by the Beatles' creativity. What they accomplished in those few years is a once-in-a-millenium event. This song is from Abbey Road, the last album they recorded (and next-to-last released).
I'm afraid if you were not there at the time, no amount of listening will make you understand the impact of the Beatles on society. Forget Taylor Swift, Michael Jackson and even, God forbid, Ed Sheeran; yes they are massively popular but the Beatles changed everything.

I was six years old and happily listening to Peter and the Wolfe as six year olds' did back then. All of a sudden, I'm the car with my brother (who was 10 years older and 16 at the time) and the song Help comes on the radio. I was stunned! I asked my bro....what and who is that?!?!?! Yes, the Beatles are a miracle that will never happen again.
WHAT? You have to listen to ALLLLLL The Beatles music -
I am old enough to remember Beatle-mania when I was a kid,
there has and never will be the like again. Fantastic years!
The Beatles had all the tech they ever needed. They had their instruments, and their voices. The rest is pure genius.
The thing about the Beatles is that over the course of a decade they developed more than perhaps any other band. You should sample songs from the different stages.
The Beatles were a group of the 1960s. Their impact on music is still being felt today. And will be long into the future. Not just pop and rock. But contemporary and classic. Four musicians with so much talent in one group. I am an older man in my 70s. As someone who lived in Southern California in the mid 60s, I can remember where popular music was stalled with recording companies were using the careful sanitation of 'popular' music. Bobby Darren and his ilk. Then my family moved to the U.K. My fondist memory was a Saturday night live on ITV in the U.K watching the the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Who jamming live on television. It was never recorded. But I still remember watching them going through their rock and blues friffs together.
"Ears were baptisted"...lololol
BEATLES...greatest band EVER!!?!
The thing to remember about the Beatles is that they have such a vast repertoire of music that you can't just listen to 20-30 songs and think you've got them figured out. You'll then listen to song 31 and it will be a genre that you have not heard them perform before. Their differing styles influenced a wide variety of performers even to this day.
“A Day in the Life” Beatles extraordinaire

The Beatles aren't just some "Good old days artist" as you put it. They are (to this day) the biggest selling music artist of all time, and nobody else even comes close (do a quick google search and you'll find out). Just discovered you, cool reaction. You should check out the song "Don't Let Me Down" from their last live performance which was done on a London rooftop.

The most popular restaurants in the United States, a country with over 300,000,000 people, are MacDonalds, Chick-Fil-A (because "filet" is too hard to understand I suppose), Taco Bell and Burger King. It is obvious that most people aren't very intelligent and don't have particularly good taste, so "the biggest selling music artist of all time" I take to be a rather bad sign if anything, and certainly doesn't make me conclude that the music is interesting. In fact, to me it's mostly quite boring. However, I'm glad you've personally found some music you enjoy, and hope you continue to get a lot of pleasure from it.
@@TB-wvvvw Idiotic analogy.
@@TB-wvvvw lol. That's a cute analogy! But the problem with your thesis is, the Beatles aren't the biggest band in the United States silly, lol....They're the biggest music artist on the entire planet!!! Yes, while it is true that the United States population does account for 300 million of the 8.2 billion people on the planet, that only accounts for a rather modest portion of the 2.3 Billion (yes 2.3 billion and counting) Beatles album sales. Because the Beatles were selling records prior to the establishment of certifying entities, it required University research to compile accurate sales records. Do a search of "Beatles 2.3 billion" and you'll see. I'm not sure how familiar you are with the Beatles music, but I would suggest checking out their entire catalogue, not just the hits. Great reaction! The Beatles became the most influential rock band ever. They evolved with every album. Their songwriting and talent was as good as it gets. They were four funny guys and had unique personalities. All came from the same town in England. (three of them met as teens, I think Ringo was around 20 when they met him playing in another band). They went on to become the worlds most popular band. Lightning in a bottle!
Welcome to the music. I was born and raised in Liverpool and was 20 when this album came out. Their first album "Please Please Me" was released in 1963. First single "Love Me Do" (not from an album) also 1963 was the beginning of the Mersey sound, which changes music forever. Enjoy this rabbit hole and check out Steely Dan stuff too. Thank you for allowing me to re-live this experience through you. Great reaction!💚
The Beatles had so many different sounds. So many of their songs were stand-alone in their uniqueness. Please listen to more of their hits. You will be surprised at their variety.
The greatest band ever. We were lucky in the 1960's that there were a number of great groups and The Beatles were the greatest.
I can remember song battels on the radio between them and the Rolling Stones.
The Beatles were ground breakers, they had hippy music - Come Together, one of the first Heavy Metal songs - Helter Skelter, one of the most covered deep songs - Yesterday, upbeat - Help, soulful - Hey, You've Got To Hide Your Love Away. #HOG UK
Considering the short time they were together, the amount of huge hits they had is staggering. And what trips me out, is how different the sound of their songs are. I think they were so varied because they were each so very different from one another. In personality, and in their talent. Like, I tend to prefer the ones George wrote and performed. But Paul has a couple that I love. And what a different sound these have from each other. They were so unique.
Ps. I sure hope you do some Rolling Stones tunes... same era but very different sound. They've got a bit of an edge to them. And a little funky blues.
I recall that the Stones mirrored the Beatles. When the Beatles went psychedelic so did the Stones. When the Beatles went gritty. so went the Stones. Both groups are great but I give the Beatles the edge.
@@IvorPresents The Stones settled into being basically a blues-rock band, and a great one at that.

The absolute genius of the Beatles!
It’s 60 years later and we are still talking about the Beatles. They still sound great. They still sound refreshing.
remember, they invented the "concept album" . previously, albums were just a collection of singles made for commercial purposes. They intro'd an album as a "journey" , a collection of works that sit together on a record. It allowed creativity to go where it could. If you get onto Pink Floyd, The Who, Genesis, and then Bowie, Gabriel, The Clash, Simple Minds, you will find creativity that just blows your mind. That stuff will never be written again. There's no patience for the 23 minutes long "Suppers Ready", a song written in 7 movements.
The variety of music The Beatles wrote is just breathtaking, and to think they just started to write so their sets at music halls wouldn't be messed up by bands that appeared before them in the set list who played what they were going to play. Turns out they were a bit special when it came to writing! The White Album, Rubber Soul and Revolver all have amazing songs. You can't go wrong.
Drugs. Drugs invented the concept album. :)
They did not invent the concept album

The Beatles are hard to pin down, they were not the greatest musicians or singers of the day. But they were the most successful, & without a doubt the most influential band of the era & still influence musical artist to this very day. Im 67 and grew up with this great music. I love the younger generation checking it out. Probably over a thousand great songs to go. I had 890 records and just scratched the surface. Enjoy your journey of classic Rock and R&B❤
Greatest band the ever lived, their music will live foever!
It was 1973, and my Dad just came home from work. He had two 8 track Beatles, Abbey Road tapes with him. He tossed one to us kids and said, "This one's for you, hands off mine." It was cool.
I loved your reaction Jay, I come from the days when this album was new and I get tears in my eyes seeing young people today enjoying music from my youth. I agree totally with your description of today's music.
Great reaction..
Keep digging..so be so impressed
..
They the best .,!!
Glad You like it....respect!
The BEST way to experience The Beatles is to start at the beginning. First song on the first album. It won't take long to see the trend. Each song is better than the one before it...each album is better than the one before! Their music was mind blowing perfection. And I'm 66 so I was with them on the whole journey. From beginning to the end. And the most amazing thing of all...is each one of them created their own special kind of music, but still sounded like the Beatles. NO other group has been able to achieve that.
The best! Fab Four . They are the Legend. Im 69 yrs old and still listening to their music. “Something”, “ Here Comes the Sun” Hey Jude, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, the list goes on and on. Beatles music will
live in our hearts forever.
you are in for such a wonderful exploración of the most important rock band of all time , get ready to enjoy young man there's a lot of wonderful in Beatles music
Greatest band ever! Loved your reaction. There are so many Beatle songs out there, all different, you have so much to look forward to, enjoy your journey!
I know songs and artists back to the 20's (of course the masters also) It's amazing how young people don't know great music.
I am so happy to see you enjoying the music that I,my Mom, brothers, friends etc grew up with. All of these wonderful musicians were there for all the "firsts" of life and helped everyone cope through both the good times and the dark, lonely traumatic times. Thank you for making and sharing your videos young man. With love, respect and in friendship.
Fantastic reaction. Dude: you're a thinker, and I love that! You won't love ALL their songs, but there are so many tremendous ones...dig deep. They started as kids. Then, THEY became. thinkers.
The Beatles came about during the early days of rock and roll and helped shape it as it evolved. Definitely worth your while to explore them more.
They will be heard in hundred years, This is classic. Don´t think about the lyrics but the music. John was always joking with words.
The biggest and most influential act in music history. No one else comes close! If you want to understand popular music, you have to know the Beatles. Modern music can't be properly understood without understanding the unprecedented influence they had. They changed music forever, profoundly and their influence on wider society was almost as large! :)
