Believe it or not Voldemort is quite kind to Harry as he always wait to attack Harry at the end of the school year, he still care about Harry's education even though they are mortal enemies
Yes it’s very considerate of him to stick to the school schedule like that. Very nice of him to plan an attack every year... in the spring

The very embodiment of cowardice.
Sad thing is that he once had a potential for bravery. He was sorted to Gryffindor afterall.
Which is why he is my favorite Harry Potter character.
Darth Portus Goes to show not everyone sorted in Gryffindor is entirely good, much like not every Slytherin is completely bad (like Snape).
For some reason I like the way Voldemort makes a brief pause and says "not even you" to Lucius. As if he left the greatest source of his disappointment for the end. The whole conversation between him and the death eaters makes this scene one of my personal favorites from the entire series.
It is hinted that Lucius was one of the closest to Voldemort to the point where Voldemort even trusted giving him his first Horcrux ( the diary ) but the fact that Lucius didn’t look for him , was indirectly responsible for the Diary’s destruction made Voldemort lose trust in the Malfoy family and their relationship went downhill. It got worse when Lucius was captured in the battle of the ministery of Magic so as a way to humiliate him Voldemort made Draco a Death Eater and when Draco failed the task to murder Dumbledore it was the last straw
@@linusmota9712 Not to mention when Voldemort's body was destroyed the first time Lucius claimed to only have been serving Voldemort under the Imperius curse and used money to buy loyalty with Fudge and gain power within the ministry. But he was all talk. Every task Voldemort gave him to do he failed. By the last book (and movie) Voldemort is treating him like complete shit which he 100% deserved.
@@linusmota9712 I think that Voldy doesn't know that the diary was destroyed.
Linus Mota and voldemort was probably was more furious when he found out that Lucius lost the diary

Aww, Voldemort gave him a hand, that's so nice of him, I didn't expect it.

@@Toosii2times Really? Please explain.
XD
For a guy who wants to kill Harry so bad, Voldemort does like fair competition. He has him bound to a grave, easily could be killed right there, and he lets him down.
It's not so much fair play than it is showboating and a sadistic desire to play with and torment Harry before killing him.
Point is, instead of finishing off Harry when he is bound to a grave, he lets him down so he can shoot him with a few Cruciatus curses and watch him writhe on the ground, then duel him, giving him enough time to summon Priori Incantatem and get back to Hogwarts.
He even says "I'm going to kill you, Harry Potter. I'm going to destroy you." When he's on the ground, helpless and in intense pain. And what does he do? Exactly the opposite, let Harry escape unharmed.
+KamektheMagikoopa1 He didn't read the Evil Overlord list, that's all.
Don't forget though, that even if he did just use Avada Kedavra on Harry whilst he was defenceless, Harry would've been able to come back.
The difference between the way Lucius talks to Voldemort here 1:21 and stands above him, and how he turns out in DH:Pt1 is just astonishing. I don't think I've ever seen such a fall from grace, and in DH:Pt2, Voldemort slaps him and says "Look at me. How do you live with yourself." The way he's reduced to a snivelling wretch, and a much more humble man, after his failures is just awesome villain character development we rarely see these days.
That's probaby why he was named Lucius, as a pun to Lucifer. God's highest ranked angel reduced to the lowest of the low
Daniel Jim A. Opolot Lucius wasn’t humbled by the experience he remained the same piece of shit he always was
Very good point ! exactly ! he fall from grace..... he was broken in Deathly Hallows !
Ehh fvck him. He deserves it, for his absurd contemptuous perspectives on non-pure wizards & witches. 🙄
Its because after Order of the Phoenix he was sent to Askaban.
Sadly they haven't put in the parts in which he said: "And here we have six missing Death Eaters . . . three dead in my service. One, too cowardly to return (Karkaroff) ... he will pay. One, who I believe has left me forever (Snape) ... he will be killed, of course... and one, who remains my most faithful servant who has already reentered my service. (Barty Crouch Jr.)"
I loved that scene in the book!! :D
I also miss: "May your loyalty never waver again, Wormtail!" Great foreshadowing.
@@fulsgarden6915 They don't use that in the movie
@Dota Thumb Dumbledore essentially gives Snape the go ahead to give Voldemort a treasure trove of information of all these years, and to continue doing so, being a double agent FOR Voldemort, when in actuality he is a double agent FOR Dumbledore. But all the info he gives Voldemort is truthful so he is forgiven behind the scenes.
The dead ones were Rosier, Wilkes, and Regulus Black
I think he also mentions the Lestrange family as well, if memory serves.
So did these Death Eaters just happen to be ready in their gothic KKK costumes when Voldy summoned them or did they have to make a quick pit stop at home to wrangle up the old fear gear?
That's actually like a really good question. I guess its the charm itself that dresses them. Imagine if you're in the shower and called to the graveyard naked. That'd be embarrassing for sure
Lmfaoooo "Gothic KKK Costumes" I'm dead.
They felt the Dark Mark growing all year. They knew he was becoming more powerful and that he was about to return
They could just dress themselves in their outfits using their magic on a whim. No need to make a pit stop anywhere.
Harry was so hurt when he saw that Lucius was one of the death eaters.

Imagine how bittersweet Voldemort's new body must be for him; not only does he still have the flesh of his "filthy muggle father", but he's got the genetic material of a whiny coward and Harry Potter in there as well
John Porteous The flesh of his father doesn't bother him, you can't escape that. And he specifically wanted Harry's blood. Not only is it symbolic, using the "life force" of his greatest enemy to resurrect himself, but Harry's blood contains Lily's Sacrificial Protection, and taking that into himself nullifies its effect on him. It allows him to overcome the one way in which Harry is stronger than him; touch. That's why Quirrel died in Philosopher's Stone, and that's why he makes such a big deal of "I can touch you now!"
It's also why he can't kill Harry. As a piece of Harry, Lily's Sacrificial Protection, lives on in Voldemort, Harry is tethered to life. It's like a light-side Horcrux, using someone else's love rather than your own soul.
You are wrong its the flesh of pettigrew, bone of his father and the blood of harry

A very substantial amount of dialogue from the book, in which important information is revealed, is omitted from this scene. @@nunka34ify he was fantastic here as the movies went on he just got hammy damn shame
What I love about this scene is it shows that as evil as he is Voldemort will reward those who remain loyal to him I am in no way suggesting that this makes him caring but it makes him more complex than your typical cackling villain. If you fully devote yourself to him and always serve him faithfully he may even come to your aid. It's also interesting how this scene seems to imply that he does not want to be feared by his loyal servants he wants to be put on a pedestal and worshipped like a god .
Is it just me or Voldemort in this movie is thinner and more creepy than HP 6, 7 and 8?
Euthimis Biliopoulos Well he hasn't had the time to go shove is head in an ice box and eat everything yet.
This was the best version of Voldemort from all of the movies. He looked like an angel of Death.

Lmaooooo. You're so right. I didn't even think about that!
How wormtail found him?
From having recently watched the the 4th and 7/8th movie adaptions, I just get the feeling that Voldermort is more portrayed to be as an evil madman type role, rather than the cunning evil genius that he is. What made him so feared aside from his magical powers was his ability to coerce, to spread panic, to operate amongst the dark - in short his strong tactical mind. Yet at times, especially in the 8th movie, he runs around like a madman just waiting to be put down. How he taunts Neville (when in the book he praises Neville's parents), embraces Draco, has his death eaters abandon him, flies around with Harry scratching his face as though powerless, to not having scenes where he takes on and overpowers the three in the Battle of Hogwarts. Minor things but Voldermort in the movies just didn't seem that scary or powerful - kind of like how they made Dumbledore to be far more aggressive and unknowing than he actually was (particularly in the later films). Still good films though - was surprised having watched the last book recently how well Daniel Radcliffe and a few others did, and generally how they kept to the general outline of the book.
But he is a madman.......
agenttheater5 "I'm not mad" Tom m. Riddle Jr. to Dumbledore Harry potter and the half blood prince.
Also I believe Voldemort's more of a psychopath than mad or insane.
+agenttheater5
He is, but it's a matter of how it's portrayed. He seems far more expressive, eccentric, and reckless in the movies than he is in the books.
I was more terrified of Voldemort in the books. For example, when he touches Harry's face in the graveyard scene I felt dread and Harry's fear and pain over being tormented by Voldemort. In the movies I can't help but laugh when he says, "I can TOUCH him... NOW" and he's just hamming it up instead of being cold and in control. Hell, I find Potter Puppet Pals' Voldemort more seriously--at least his eyes were accurate in that!
Mahi Khan I also expected Voldemort to be a brilliant, evil genius mastermind, instead of a crazy madman, in my opinion, he's portrayed the same disappointing way, in the books as in the movies. Take both the Goblet of Fire and the Order of the Phoenix book for example. Harry learns about the Three Unforgivable Curses in Professor Moody's class and just learned after the Death Eater invasion of the Tri Wizard Tournament that those spells were used during the last war. Wouldn't Harry practice those spells, to be prepared for when he faced Lord Voldemort, again? Once Harry and Voldemort duel, what spell out of the thousands he's learned over the years does he defend himself with? Expelliarmus, of all ones. I was very disappointed in J.K. Rowling for not using what she had to push her character into becoming a truly complex, teenage hero, instead of still having the mind of an eleven year old. During Order of the Phoenix, Voldemort starts to feed visions into Harry's dreams and besides causing Harry additional angry from their connection, nothing else. Where's the charismatic, diabolical, genius evil mastermind we're all led to believe Voldemort is in the previous books? Why didn't Voldemort exploit his connection, taking advantage of the vulnerable, emotional boy, in the first place, driving Harry to think he was insane and violently unpredictable? When a fan asked J.K. Rowling this very question, she claimed that Voldemort was too scared to use that connection. I'm still incredulous after all this time. I expected Voldemort to take every opportunity he was given, not ignore it. During Half-Blood Prince, why didn't Dumbledore teach Harry how to destroy the Horcruxes while he was still alive? Dumbledore had successfully destroyed a Horcrux before and that's the goal he gives Harry, so why deprive the savior of the Wizarding world that knowledge? Why in Deathly Hallows does Ron still feel like the useless third wheel, which causes him to abandon his friends in the first place, instead of developing his own talents to help Harry and Hermione? Like comparing the movies to the books and finding them lacking, I feel like the Harry Potter books could have been more than what they are.
1:51 I will always be fascinated by Voldemort giving Wormtail a new hand lol
It is a very cool special effect!

"My lord, had I detected a sign, or whisper of your whereabouts-" "There were signs, my slippery friend. And more than whispers."
Yeah, you know, like that time YOU tried to resurrect him two years ago....
The best thing about that is: he didn't. Lucius had no idea that the diary is a horcrux capable of restoring Voldemort or he would've never given it away. All he tried to do was slip an obviously dark artifact to Ginny to incriminate her dad and make sure his new muggle protection act would be scrapped.

0:40 did you see Harry's face there?? he is just in state of shock and staring blankly at voldemort. Daniel Radcliffe is such a good actor.

Agreed, not just this scene but the whole film felt rushed. This was my favorite of the books, and the film is ironically my least favorite. Mike Newell was a bad choice of director - they should have got someone more talented and made it more of an epic.
Crichjo32 Yeah I feel the same. The book is amazing but the movie is a shrug. It isn't really a good adaption in my opinion :/

I think Ralph Fiennes is great actor and is doing good job, but his version of Voldemort isn't scary at all.
Lol 1:00 he completely skips whoever that female death eater was and goes to Lucius. I always wondered, since there were very few female death eaters, and she was the only one in this movie, who she was.
Since the film follows a slightly different take on Lucius' wife and whether she was actually a Death Eater, it's possible that since they regard her as a Death Eater in the films and she's even next to Lucius that the woman is Narcissa.
Either Narcissa Malfoy and Alecto Carrow

Brilliant! I played Avery in this scene but they cut me out haha! It was brilliant fun to be part of though. I spent 6 weeks on the set. I'm not an actor but was a contortionist so chosen for my flexibility.
Really? That is so cool! I read the Avery bit in the screenplay, I was wondering if the moment had been filmed or not.
@@bramijdema759 Yes, 6 weeks on the set : )
@@RitchieRosson I just noticed that in the initial scene, there are six Death Eater extras(Lucius, Crabbe, Goyle, Macnair, Avery and two others who I assume are Nott and Narcissa Malfoy(the unmasked female)) but in later scenes there are many more, was there an explanation or did I miscount?
Also, were you(or any of the other extras) given any info on your character, or were you told to simply look menacing?
@@bramijdema759 We were all actors and not extras in that scene. I think in others, there were lots of extras as death eaters. I threw myself at Voldermorts feet and said "Master, forgive me! Forgive all of us." And then he puts a spell on me, torturing me and I am "writhing and contorting" as in the book.

This is so funny when Voldemort angrily removes the masks of the death eaters. Crabb, whose name?, Goyle, not even you.....Lucius.
The other name was McNair. He was the executioner sent to kill Buckbeak
+Minhaj Nizam yeah the government's pet trying to get his arse to safety by claiming he got hexed by Imperius
rob140892 he didnt work for the ministry then. He got his job after the first war and was cleared
I like how he said "not even you...Lucius" and calls him "friend". Lucius is clearly top dog, which makes it even more jarring when Voldemort comes down hard on him

Something that the movies don't tell you is that Voldemort also gave Wormtail that hand as insurance because he never trusted him due to his weak character. In the skirmish at Malfoy Manor when he began choking Harry, Harry reminded him of how he owed him due to saving his life from Lupin and Sirius. When Wormtail hesitated the hand all of a sudden came to life and started choking him. Harry and Ron tried to save him but to no avail, he died from asphyxiation.
I preferred the voice Fiennes gave Voldemort in this film, compared to the latter films. Anyone else with me?
What happened to Ralph Fiennes? He was so good in this movie. It's like he gave up in the last one.
1.25 "Your parents were meddlesome fools too. Mark my words Potter! When they soon you're going to meet the same sticky end!" Oh you filthy toady -_-
